Too hard to find compatible server

I really just want to play Arma II, not a zombie mod, not an island mod, not a 'you need glasses tinted' mod or whatever mod just to join a bloody game ! If this game allowed me to download in game or choose in game then it wouldnt be a problem but as it stands I cant play due to the fact there are too many zombie / mod / non standard servers out there all of which appear to be different ! I was a long time fan and player but I just give up now, its just too time consuming to try and find a decent server / game.

I do hope A3 is more user friendly...

that's odd, I don't remember having any trouble finding servers that didn't run any mods. that was before DayZ of course, now, if you don't filter properly, you'll be getting hundreds of servers in your server browser

And didn't Dean remove dayZ from the server list if you weren't running it?

I don't have DayZ and I do see servers running some form of it

Dayz wont pop up if you use latest beta, unless u have the DayZ-mod active.

Well, "fun". I'd say it's best to find a unit/squad/clan/group of friends to play with. Open public servers on vanilla can easily be, ahn, disappointing.

Or if you want to play any other mod or whatever, the software I pointed to will do the work for you, update everything needed, and put you in there.

Tell us your location and we can recommend a few public server that didnt require any mods. Then you can just put the name in the filter. Usually it's divided between 3 continents, either US, Europe or Asia.

For some weird reason, the icon color on the server list dont seem to show properly now. Even though it shows as red but i can still join in normally.

Ive been using six updater for ages and didnt know this version was out ! Its much better' thanks for this it has really helped i can now just play on normal and ace servers hurray !! This should be the standard mp browser for the game, why dont bis take note and help players by changing the browser its just part of the challenge for new and vet players.

there's nothing wrong with having so many mods, but the game definitely needs better mod integration though. we shouldn't have to use a 3rd party program(and a terrible one at that) to simply play the game, just look at counterstrike

To simply play the game, all you need to do is run the exe. To utilise the plethora of community mods you can make use of the excellent community launchers like Six Updater and Play With Six. The 'terrible' program you are referring to is a work in progress by the way, built by people committed to this community and committed to making Arma what it is.

Hand in there, Thr0tt, I feel your pain. You should find out what's current and popular today in terms of missions and use their names in the filter, in example: Warfare, Domination etc. Use http://arma2.swec.se/server/list and type in "Warfare" in the mission filter, you'll get 7-8 vanilla servers.

ArmA 3 should be more user friendly in terms of multiplayer coherence - I personally hope it comes with standardised game modes which had been tried and tested in previous iterations of ArmA: CTI, TvT, small scale Co-Op.

just come to our server, its warfare (rubber edition) Search for urban xtreme, we run a 24 man server. Which is ultra smooth!!! You need no mods whatsoever. Also join us on ts 81.19.212.42

Yup I hear that alot, even mods that should be just clientside mess with the load up, even sound mods. Thats why our server is completely vanilla, boring as that might sound.

yes this is annoying to say the least..

recalling games that did this in a more user friendly way similar to return to castle wolfenstein

when you connect to a mp server there's a choice in the server settings that enable auto download

for mod files Synchronization to the server running for player who do not have required or updated version files.

this may cause lag yes ..

but at least you can play the game.
