Jaypaul97 1 Posted May 21, 2012 Sometimes I will be in a situation where I'll be like "Oh no I'm dead..." but the AI will just look at me. For example I got jumped by an enemy AI and just panic shot and prepared to die...but nothing happened and I ended up killing him. Other times contrawise they'll shoot me from like a mile away in a split second. What realism is at play here? Or is ARMA 2 free not a full sim? I'm not putting this game down, it's arguably my favorite game of all time, but just wondering what's up with that. Or is it some sort of suppression mechanic, that since I was panic shooting(I was missing by several meters) he got thrown off as well so he didn't shoot me? gunso 10 Posted May 21, 2012 You obviously haven't seen user made custom mission and AI enhancement mod. AI will revive you(Domi AI medic), grab ammo by themselves(SLX i think), steal your vehicles (UPSmon), use vehicles to get to AO (Benny warefare) and etc. Of course arma 2 free cant use all these mods and some custom missions :p amazon have a nice offer for arma 2 CO anyway, grab it while it's still on http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003UV8RRE/?tag=childsplaycha-20ons
maturin 12 Posted May 21, 2012 When the AI expects you to appear and are already looking your way, they will gun you down in a second. If you show up out of the blue (and they are very easily fooled in close quarters), they have to wait for your flagging CPU cycles to run a vision check, then drag their slowly-turning arms to draw a bead on you. Also, they may be focusing on your mates a few meters away, yet on the other side of a wall. A priority situation that is obvious for a human mind is appallingly difficult to code for a computer. If they are indeed suppressed, they will take longer to aim and shoot at a lower rate. Short version: the AI is just not optimized for CQB. They only really work right at medium ranges. domokun 515 Posted May 21, 2012 Jaypaul97: install Robalo's ASR AI mod and Dapman's First Aid mod. Then enjoy reactive AI with realistic accuracy and responsive first aid.
Jaypaul97 1 Posted May 21, 2012 Is there any way I can add this to ARMA freE?
bars91 956 Posted May 21, 2012 Nope - buy A2 and enjoy all the mod awesomeness=)
maturin 12 Posted May 22, 2012 Also make sure your AI skill is set to full.
metalcraze 290 Posted May 23, 2012 He is talking about ArmA2 Free. Meaning it's ArmA2 engine not OA engine. AI is indeed worse in ArmA2 version of the engine. I bet it definitely lacks improvements from 1.59 (which included the close quarters reaction improvement) since I didn't notice the ability to put AI into specific cover positions as well as AI taking cover just as well as it does in OA past 1.59 So you need Operation Arrowhead, OP. If you don't want to buy ArmA2 original - you can always combine what you have for Combined Ops Lite. And yeah ASR AI + UPSMON improves AI a lot. AI won't be humanlike still obviously but the difference will be quite big.
Jaypaul97 1 Posted May 23, 2012 What is combined ops lite?
avibird 1 155 Posted May 23, 2012 Jaypaul do you like the ARMA A2 free. If the answer is yes then go buy combined ops it's very cheap now it's both ARMA2 and The standalone expansion to the original Arma 2 called Operation Arrowhead. There is another Standalone expansion Reinforcements which is Arma 2: British Armed Forces and Arma 2: Private Military Company. Just go buy combined ops you Cheap Bastard lol only F with you. You will not go wrong with combined ops.
gunso 10 Posted May 24, 2012 (edited) BUYYY ITT!!! then get sixupdater and download JSRS and Blastcore and play all those mission again, it will be like playing a new game. Get some buddies near your area and host insurgency server on your PC. Download those missions in armaholic, there's a lot of it. After a few months start playing with ACE, then later on start playing with the editor and all those user made island. Since you havent tried OA yet, there's a lot more cool stuffs in OA. I'm sure you also havent tried the PMC minigun SUV =P Amazon offer still up, get it while it lasts. Or if you have the cash, get arma X bundle. OFP campaign is a great game for training AI command XD Edited May 24, 2012 by gunso
Jaypaul97 1 Posted May 24, 2012 Ill consider buying it. But a question about "careless" settings in waypoints. What does it mean? I made a mission where it's night and you infiltrate a place, and set the guards on "Guard", "Careless" and it was super easymode. I shot like 7 bullets at their feet and they were like "Meh, no big deal". I concluded maybe since they were in careless mode they weren't wearing NVG, but that doesn't explain why they didn't care when I shot like 10 bullets right beside them.
W0lle 1052 Posted May 24, 2012 Well the term "careless" says it all - they don't care about anything. If you want them to react to your actions you have to set them to something else.
Jaypaul97 1 Posted May 24, 2012 Oh! I thought it was like for soldiers that have been on duty for so long that they're just bored and careless...I expected that once they knew there was trouble they smack back into alert. That is most interesting.

domokun 515 Posted May 24, 2012 A2Free (allows you to play a few missions) = €0 OA (allows you to play DayZ + many missions) = €15 on Sprocket Combined Ops = A2 + OA (allows you to play every mission out there) = €25 on Sprocket Arma X Anniversary = A2 + OA + BAF (British expansion pack) + PMC (Mercs exp pack) + A1 + Queens Gambit (A1 exp pack) + OFP = €50 on Sprocket Sprocket is BI's online store which allows buyers to download games. WE favour it because it doesn't have any pesky DRM and all your money goes direct to the developer (rather via some greedy middle-man).
mrcash2009 0 Posted May 24, 2012 (edited) Set way point to "aware" mainly if your wanting patrols to be on their toes & and "danger" for them to go into combat mode, all waypoint info can be found here: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Mission_Editor:_Waypoints As above, if you want to get the most out of it, buy Combined Ops A2+OA ... you wont go far wrong. Then goto mods and get ASR_AI ... then you will notice a difference :) Flanking AI, AI informing other nearby groups to help out, many many options: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?107526-ASR-AI-Skills Edited May 24, 2012 by mrcash2009
Jaypaul97 1 Posted May 24, 2012 @people telling me to buy... I want to. But online i checked the price at EB games and just the base game is 60 dollars!!! I dont believe it so I'm going to the store myself, if its cheaper I'll pick it up.
W0lle 1052 Posted May 24, 2012 The prices domokun said are when bought online at the Sprocket/BI store, of course every other store can set the price to whatever they want. That's called capitalism. :) Yes, it's safe to buy the game from there. And yes, you can burn the setup files on DVDs and have a physical copy then. And yes, you can download the purchased games at any time again (as long as the online store exists).
Jaypaul97 1 Posted May 26, 2012 Alright groupies I wanna buy it. But one question: If I buy from the BI story can I mail them cash? Or do they take credit card? And then they ship it through UPS or something like that? I cannot give my credit card.
W0lle 1052 Posted May 26, 2012 They accept Visa and Mastercard. You can also pay with Paypal. But at the BI Store you can only purchase digital copies, not physical discs. Purchase works like this: You create an account there and log in. Select the games you want to purchase and drop them in the cart. Checkout and select what payment method you want to use. Once paid you get an email with the purchase recipt - save it! and the download location. Then you download the game, activate it and play. You can save the downloaded installation files on DVD, Bluray or internal/external HD from where you can install the game at any time you want. Sending money from Canada to the Czech Republic is nothing I really recommend though. Chances are great the money never arrives.
Nicholas 5 Posted May 26, 2012 Do you have an account at the BI Store or on Steam? It's $29.99 on Steam and $32.99 on the BI Store.
cm. 10 Posted May 27, 2012 Think of that extra $2.99 as a tip for BIS for making a great game (and allowing other great games to be made from it).
