Boeing/SOAR MH-47E

Recommended Posts

Yep that maneuver is pretty easy to achieve with the existing chinooks (BIS and the RAF one), you don't need the chopper to actually float, just to let him fly and stick the rear in the water. After that it won't move by itself, you might just have to correct with a bit of collective from time to time is all.

Your Bird, your choice ;-).

I know. Even the AI can do this... Until you drive the Zodiac into the back... Quite often the MH47 gets pushed down so far, so its exploding... Especially when you take your time when boarding... Just saying.

And since the CH47 is capable of 30min floating without engines, I assumed the MH47 with the big Belly should achieve the same, when not more.

Good night :)

Oh yeah, Arma Physics, a whole another story! Though i managed to get the boat inside without too much trouble when not touching the sides.

Didn't know the Chinook could float that much! With empty fuel tanks?

Anyway, i wasn't saying this would be wrong, just saying, prolly not that important right now. Though, if i might ask, what's that proof of concept you were talking about earlier? I'd like to see that. Would be a nice thing to know.

Edit: Oh yeah, not really on-topic, but if you want AI to perform such an extraction, the unitCapture allows to do it without the "helo blown-away" thing. It'll still get damaged a bit, but it won't move.

Another thing I thought about adding, while working on my version of the chopper...

Everybody talks about the "King Fish"... how about making the chopper floatable?

(isnt that easy, since you cant give a chopper the same features as a boat... but its doable as some proof of concept from a modder here shows :))

Just and idea for the future :)

indeed,

canFloat

Boolean: Default value: false

canFloat = true;

Ref: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/CfgVehicles_Config_Reference#canFloat

Yes that could be done by some scripts I think. However the MH47E does sit on the water without sinking... Unless you decrease throttle loads and it will sink, but you can keep your hands off the keys and it will float.

Boeing designed the CH/MH-47 to have a 'float time' of a minimum of 30 minutes with the engines off (assuming the Loadmaster hatch is closed) to allow the crew to escape or wait out the 30mins for SAR without having to be exposed to the water. (lowering the crews survival time.)

canFloat = true; has been added into the config already ;)

Also while I'm posting, I would like to thank yurapetrov for his amazing help so far on fixing the bugs that currently sit within the MH47E. Without his help this project wouldnt be on the horizion. Again... Thanks!

AFAIK the canFloat command, is only functional on boats and land vehicles. Planes and choppers cant use that functions. At least it was that way when I checked about a year ago...

The Proof of Concept is done by GNAT in his Work on his Cessna 185.

In that package was a Cessna with Floaters beneath them, so it could start/land in the water.

Basicly it uses the AttachTo command, to set an floatable boat under the chopper, when the chopper goes into the water.

I have his example script.

Good night :)

@Konyo, keep up the great work. Reminds me a great deal of the OFP BAS MH47 :)

Maybe in the next version then lol ;)

Also what do you of this in this version or the next update :

The MH-47E Nose opens, good idea or bad? Can see 1 downside though as yurapetrov pointed out. People will fly with the nose open :( Im guessing you could use is this Engineon? before the animation or something. I dont know. Thoughts?

Thank you :D I never played OFP BAS MH-47E. Hopefully mine will be equally as good :D

Also got 2 new screens to show you all later ;)

EDIT: Thread title has now been changed to 'Boeing/SOAR MH47E'.

As I said above I've got some new photos to show you all. There 2 new photos of the extra crew positions I've been keeping secret. These are the bugs that have been keeping myself and yurapetrov very confused about over the past few days, still without success.

This is the loadmaster crew, which has a 90 degrees field of view below the hatch.

& this is the back crew, which again has a 90 degrees field of view out the back of the chinook.. This cargo position is fun when banking tigh turns trust me :P

It is very fun, especially when bullets are flying past the chopper and there some fast flying & fast turning maneuvers as I've said before.

EDIT : I've posted a little video of the BackCrew Cargo Position with a low & fast flight... Thats how fun it really is :p

Love the attention to the way the loadmaster and crew members are portrayed. As far as the nose goes, I am a huge fan of small details such as being able to have panels and hatches open for "inspection." It comes in handy when making intro's, outro's, and screenshots.

I know a lot of people will say it's a waste of time, but having it doesn't mean that they have to use it. It's up to you whether you want to model it though.

I too love the detail, makes it more realistic and better in missions etc when loading up. I was also thinking this afternoon i might make a static model of the MH47E. With Engine cover open. Ladder up to it, nose open etc. Probably the better idea for it i think. Whats your thoughts?

Also I've done a small video of the BackCrew Cargo Position when doing some low & fast flying :p

Dont forget to choose 1080p HD Quality :D

Nothing wrong with Call of Duty 4. The one and only good call of duty game. (I loved the single player in it) Nice work Konyo

Like the idea, but it think it's easier and quicker to fast rope :) Ladder if I make the slingable boat work, other than that fast roping is the only one. Sorry.

Details like those just adds so much to the immersion. Other stuff like Pilot-/Copilot Doors, sidedoor, EngineCovers... A lot of stuff, if you have the time for it. :o

But all those additional details should be usable only, when looking at them directly... They shouldnt cluster up the whole usermenu...

I like the idea of the "Static" Version. Even better, if it would have the rotors straped to the chopper, Engine Covers up and all the "Remove before Flight" straps.

I know I have asked before...

Are there any long time plans to go

from this:

To this:

;)

Extraction Line would be nice, but will probably look a littlebit wierd with this advanced physics of arma...

But definitly worth to think about, IMHO.

EDIT: I think he means this by

Point is to get people extracted, not inserted. :)

Yeah will add all options to a static model as its much easier etc. Like I said before it would be awkard if the nose can opened and people fly around with it open etc. Will add engine covers, window covers etc, remove MiniGuns on the static gun and have the options around the aircraft to raise ramp, nose, engine covers etc. Will most likly be in the next version though. Or would you rarther wait and have it included in this version? Would only take a couple of days more. Max a week?

& No the cockpit it still in the instruments forum. Would take way to much to change it, even still I don't know how to change it to the digital screens. Maybe in future version, not promising it though :p

If you did a static "flying" model that would be mega, running of the ramp and doing the HALO jump :D

Can actually do that with the normall MH47, set it to flying at a hovering point, at a height and press get out and you can walk around in the MH47E :)

used for insert sometimes as well, i've seen it been used during a demonstration for both in and out by the Aus army though if Fast roping is possible it seems a little pointless giving how slow they have to land.
