gatordev 219 Posted February 28, 2012 The list yp is planning is this:- MH-60S 3 variants - one with M134 miniguns, second with hellfires and third with anti-mines equipment; Yura, Just a little update for you. The U.S. Navy doesn't currently have M134 guns installed on their -60S. I don't think the -60H ever used them, they just use the GAU-17. Also, the Navy has pretty much given up on using the -60S as an "anti-mine" airframe. It just can't tow and survive any kind of engine malfunction.
yurapetrov 0 Posted March 8, 2012 What is the difference between M134 and GAU-17? And i have another question: this gun really used in MH-60S Seahawk or it just concept? source of the picture
SuicideCommando 333 Posted March 8, 2012 "Hey This is not operational yet, it's still in firing tests at Pax River. It's not just a special forces setup, the MH-60S has a surface warfare mission to engage small boats. The gun is fior targets you might not want to use a Hellfire on." Quoted further down in the thread you linked. Looks like it could or will be used in the future.

Well considering Arma 2 takes place in the not too distant future I would have to say that the gun would be a good candidate to make it into the game :-) That and it looks badass! gatordev 219 Posted March 9, 2012 What is the difference between M134 and GAU-17? The M134 is a multi-barrel 7.62 mini-gun. I think it's 6 barrels. The Navy doesn't carry those. The GAU-17 is a three-barreled 7.62 mini-gun that is carried on the -60H. Realistically, the regular Navy squadrons don't really use it/deploy with it, in large part because they can't afford the ordnance needed to train with it. The Reserve squadrons will use it more for their NSW support and HCS-4 and -5 as well as HSC-84 (what -4 became) used it all the time. As for the M197... Supposedly it's coming for the Sierra. What I and many don't get is how they'll pay for the ammo to get crews proficient with it. The active component part of the U.S. Navy has always struggled to allot enough ammo for its crews to practice on the guns, and this thing will need even more. It's pretty neat, but I'll believe it when I see it in these financially limited times.
desmondb 10 Posted March 9, 2012 at the 24:00 minute mark of this vid it looks like these Seahawks are armed with the M134's, (circa late 90s - early 00's) so its possible they were phased out not too long ago? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwfpciM32C4&feature=related
yurapetrov 0 Posted March 9, 2012 (edited) Wiki article about M134 minigun: Another variant was developed by the U.S. Air Force specifically for flexible installations, beginning primarily with the UH-1N helicopter, as the GAU-17/A. The primary end users of the GAU-17/A have been the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps, which mount them as defensive armament on a number of helicopters and surface ships. The weapon is part of both the A/A49E-11 armament system on the UH-1N and A/A49E-13 armament subsystem on the HH-60H aircraft. And on the all photos I had seen, was 6 barrels, like this: Link to primeportal walk around HH-60H Only one weapon with 3 barrels on seahawk that i find is 12.7mm GAU-19 on SH-60F: pic source Edited March 9, 2012 by yurapetrov fix error in link

Which leads me too... Wiki article about M134 minigun:And on the all photos I had seen, was 6 barrels, like this: Link to primeportal walk around HH-60H I stand corrected. I could have sworn the GAU-17 was a three-barreled weapon, but apparently not. Sorry for the bad info. They're definitely not phased out in modern day, as the Hotel still carries it, I just mistakenly thought it was a different design.
gatordev 219 Posted March 28, 2012 One last "mea culpa..." I was over at HSC-85 today taking care of some other admin business and talked with one of the AWs about their guns. It is a GAU-17 and it is a 6-barrel design (7.62). Obviously I heard wrong from someone previously. Should any of that make it in-game, it will be sweet. yurapetrov 0 Posted August 21, 2012 Changed flares dispenser, now it looks more realistic.
b00ce 160 Posted August 21, 2012 You did a really good job on that thing. Its amazing what little details can do. Are they going to actually dispense flares? :p
yurapetrov 0 Posted August 21, 2012 Yes, they works! Just press Alt+R and they will fire! Or they fired automatically when somebody launched missile to you. Also i take Flir screen from AH-64 and put it to seahawk. I removed normal view and NVG view from flir, leave only thermal view, because i think what the real seahawk flir has only thermal view. gatordev 219 Posted August 22, 2012 That looks really nice. You continue to impress. Also i take Flir screen from AH-64 and put it to seahawk. I removed normal view and NVG view from flir, leave only thermal view, because i think what the real seahawk flir has only thermal view. For the -60B, that is correct. FLIR only. The -60R and -60S have MTS, which is a combination of FLIR, Day TV and Low-Light TV (as well as a bunch of different kind of lasers).
