bradp191 10 Posted August 30, 2011 OK, so the co-pilot slot is kind of like the loader in a tank as far as the game is concerned: somewhat limited functionality, but there for realism's sake. I can see a pair of players piloting an aircraft in MP with great results, so long as they work well together. If the avionics are fully functional, you could have the pilot focused outward flying by VFR while the copilot is focused on the instruments. Vice versa in inclement weather. It would also offer a kind of "apprentice" role for budding pilots. Someone inexperienced with aircraft could learn from a more seasoned player.
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted August 30, 2011 I thought TAKOH would have copilot controls. If implemented in A3, would be as simple as the pilot having an action to transfer controls to copilot, forcing it back to him, and automatic transfer if pilot is killed/incapacitated. Darkguerilla 10 Posted September 1, 2011 Even more interesting would be: You are the gunner in a UH-60 that has Miniguns on both sides. You are also the commander. Now your helicopter is flying over enemy terrain, but JACKPOT you see a convoy of transport vehicles with only two vehicles on either end of the convoy that can provide covering fire. So you command your pilot to "Attack that vehicle" and your pilot responds by flying a circle around that vehicle which has you so you can hit that target. This AI pilot would be keeping you so you can target the enemy as well as not crash into the terrain. Then once you've neutralized that target you can repeat the process over and over again until the convoy is eliminated.
*LK1* 10 Posted September 1, 2011 It wouldnt bother me too much as long as vehicles had the full crew onboard so things like radio seats and co pilot seats dont get taken up by passengers.. just let aircraft have their full compliment.. but yeah.. I dont like having empty crew seats either... *this 1.

coder4crack 10 Posted September 5, 2011 what about wingmen? This would be superb
theblessedpig 10 Posted September 5, 2011 Would you mind elaborating on the wingmen idea? You mean like working data link between aircraft for target acquisition/marking and other stuff (basically a SADL data link)? Or maybe something else? Because aside from the data sharing between aircraft, you can pretty much play as wingmen with your buddies IMO.
Fox '09 14 Posted September 5, 2011 alternitivly, make the co-pilot the vehicles "commander". its not realistic, but if you hand over the navigating, target acquisition, and other duties to him it frees up the pilot for, you know, flying it would be a good thing to rotate. It would have an action to switch controls (from whoever is currently the pilot) , so if someone wants to take a break the co pilot can take over, and if someone dies the other will automatically assume control.
