avibird 1 155 Posted July 20, 2011 Some people just cannot stand to see Cod or BF etc so much as mentioned without kicking off about how rubbish they think it is. There seems to be a heavy partisan element on these boards, if you so much as find one, single thing about another game that you actually like, then it means your a 100% console moron.Frankly this approach makes me shit. Hey, BF/COD are great games for what they are! I just want to keep on topic about ARMA and the ARMA community. I have no problem with other games I just perfer ARMA over other games. avibird 1 155 Posted July 20, 2011 @AVIBIRD 1:You don't get the picture. People lock their rooms to prevent troublemakers that ruin their game. The other day I had a near 24 hour non stop session in a single Domination game on a public server - just to remind me of old times. And the stuff I saw just made me wanna cry out loud. It was a ranked game (which I hate) and with all the easy crap enabled (which I hate), but it was the only server I could find that had people on it. I eventually ranked high enough to tank. I asked for people to join me and didn't even get a response. So I provided overwatch from far away and kept the tank alive for hours (I know how to deal with fighters and attack helis - exit the tank :p). The weird part was that I often reached the next target before the others (really far targets I didn't bother with). Eventually in base I got somebody to gun while I drove. Next target (reinforcement based) he blasted away on everything he saw, and all around us were friendly vehicles shot out as they drove right into a hot zone. Reinforcement start arriving, and we're out of ammo - way away from base/reammo. Then we took a hit disabling the main gun and I ejected. I call for engineer who gets up there, fixes the tank, and then snatches it. I manage to call him back, then he drives it right into the target zone "for destruction" because it's easier to lift it home than drive it. Of course the tank got shot out and we died. I mean WTF is going on? Same happened at another target zone, where my tank got destroyed because other people wanted to have fun with it. During the whole session I don't think I lost a single tank due to own actions (I somehow managed to RTB everytime I took a good hit). I have some understanding of tank warfare (based on reading), but I am definitely not a tanker boy, I even think it's the first time I've used one in Domination/OA. So why the hell did I keep my stuff alive for so long while others pretty much lost their equipment once they reached the hot zone? Answer: they don't have the patience to try to survive, it's all about the damn action. Several times I was up at 100:1 k:d ratio (ended up with score 1416 with 19 deaths, and 3 known teamkills incl a friendly tank which suddenly appeared in the middle of an otherwise empty target zone - my bad), which was new experience for me, but again, server was setup with really easy options. Before night when most people started leaving, almost all my deaths was result from other players utter stupidity. You wouldn't believe the number of people kicked for shooting at base or placing satchels at base (myself included, by accident - stupid action menu!) - repeatedly. I play serious missions too. But only in closed rooms. Can you imagine why? In Domination when idiots play it doesn't hurt the mission all that much. In a serious mission, it can (and have) ruin(ed) everything. I recently released Domino, which is a more serious edit of Domination (read the info), but guess what - nobody cares (not unexpected) - and nobody plays it - and those who do can't read the notes so they go into battle well prepared. Much of the convenientness that most (highly casual) gamers want is removed. Not preparing for battle, loosing stuff, including the initiative, really hurts there - but most players want the easy game modes. Not anything you or me can do about it. Note that I have played highly well organized Domination sessions too. And they rock beyond belief! Don't blame the mission. Blame firstly the players for not having a desire to play more realistic, and secondly the public hosts for wanting to attract players by setting up way too simple server and mission settings. As for I want to help you see that light my son and move out of the darkside. C'mon, please... Hey, CarlGustaffa your domination missions looks good. I would love to try it out with you. PM jake and he will give you our TS and maybe we can setup a paly day for your mission.

NoRailgunner 0 Posted July 20, 2011 AVIBIRD 1 in how many comments/threads and polls you were moaning and crying that BIS should make a console version of Arma1, Arma2 and Operation Arrowhead? ;) Now you got a pc and cry about the diversity (which is a good thing btw) and people likes/dislikes? Are you sure that all people should be forced to like only one certain style of gameplay? People who pay for servers make the rules... and if they don't want to be open for everyone + every random jerk its their decision/right. Its not the fault from mission designers if their missions are running nonstop on public servers. Go ask the server admins + players there to make a change. Or do you think that someone from BIS should be guarding all servers worldwide 24/7? Maybe a moderator could do this beside all the other things.... Just make a poll and see who wins this ultimate job! :D BIS can improve some things and add features but should not treat+feed A2OA/A3 players like a 6-7 year old console kiddy. End of the story. Blade89 10 Posted July 20, 2011 From what it sounds like (actually reads like..), you already have a group of friends that you play with regularly. Do you guys have a regular play time or do you post on these forums when you do play them? I don't think it will go back to the way it was in OFP AVIBIRD1 but I don't think you should stop doing the user made coop missions. I know the group I'm in (yes a realism unit) has quite a few people in it that grab different mods and addons made by the community and different missions and play them regularly during the week. There's no set time but it's usually in the afternoon after people finish work, school, etc. You and your friends are welcome to hop on our vent or forums and try and get something going. So long as you're willing to work as a team. :) This probably won't substitute for what you're trying to do but I figure it's better than nothing.

End of the story. :p I never wanted a console version of Arma1. My support for that went away with ARMA2 because of the issues with making the game run right and keeping the core gameplay the same. What does that have to do with this post. I have been playing OFP since 2001. So what of it!!!!!!!!! ---------- Post added at 05:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:07 PM ---------- It seems to me that you have to ask your commanding officer Jake. Herbal Influence 10 Posted July 20, 2011 In a way the threadopening reminded me of my own whining about long-gone time: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=121681 But I am optimistic. Things will settle. Serious gamers will assemble. Also outside clans. I simply kick after several warnings if people behave stupid. On my server I reserve myself the right to. After several clear warnings. But things will slowly get better, I am quite sure. This thread also proves it.

You need to get a life it's a game and for a 41 year old man to be in a clan. Do you have a wife, kids, job ect. I am older then you and I try to play most nights when my kids go to bed and the wife lets me lol with a small good group of players. The point was to build a better community that people can keep rooms open and share missions with others that want to play the same way.
Nightrain 10 Posted July 20, 2011 Having never played mulitplayer, I don't know how much my opinion will be worth here but this my way of interpreting it. Here is what you want: The point was to build a better community that people can keep rooms open and share missions with others that want to play the same way. How do you expect BI to do this? Give extensive background checks to people wanting to the buy the game to make sure they will play it the exact way you want everyone to? Be realistic, Zipper5 said it on the first page, the community has changed with the times and will never go back to the way it was when OFP was still young. I think you should join a clan because it sounds exactly like what you want. You want a group that shares missions and plays the same way. Sounds like a clan. Not every clan is super uptight and realistic, try looking for one that suits your style. Your idea of what a clan is seems very far from what I've seen and heard from everyone else. Nicholas 5 Posted July 20, 2011 How do you expect BI to do this? Where did he mention that he wanted BI to do any of this? The players of ArmA govern the community, not BI.
Nightrain 10 Posted July 20, 2011 Where did he mention that he wanted BI to do any of this? The players of ArmA govern the community, not BI. My bad, I read something in Mykes post hinting at it. Anyways, fine how do you expect a large group of strangers to weed out the problems on a international and intercontinental level? What you want is a clan. :)
[frl]myke 14 Posted July 20, 2011 (edited) Where did he mention that he wanted BI to do any of this? The players of ArmA govern the community, not BI. It's here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1985302&postcount=51 It's bohemia that needs to come up with a solution if ARMA games will continue nand get new player numbers were it need to be. Oh, btw, Avibirdie: You need to get a life... I try to play most nights I play twice a week, not most nights and you tell me to get a life? A little ironic, isn't it? And exactly because i have wife, kids, job ect. i do play in a clan where i have my fixed times to play. It's called "time scheduling", you should try it, makes a lot of things easier, not only gaming, kid. Edited July 20, 2011 by [FRL]Myke
mcpxxl 2 Posted July 20, 2011 Sample armaholic.com Download Missions MP Coop Whatever Pick the Mission you like and see the comments and voting For me this is a place to share missions as sample :-) I pick missions there and "pimp" them for our needs ... and this because we are also some old guys that want to play on our locked clan server in a "silent and stressfree CLOUD" :-) Arma and also Ofp are just "not the same" then other games because mods configs dedicated server or not. You can share Missions via a Programm but no chance to change the server mods to the needs of a mission. excuse my bad english
