Pistol holster animation......

Recommended Posts

One of the most annoying things in the ARMA series is having models with pistol holsters and not have a pistol present. All I ask of the devs is that they make it where a pistol is present and that there be an animation with the pistol appearing in the model's hands when they switch to it. The holster would be empty until the player or AI puts it back.

ARMA 3 looks amazing, but this glaring error needs to be address. Please add it in the game or remove all pistol holsters from the models and add ammo or medical leg pouches, and the pistol could just appear in the hands of units after an animation showing them reach down to their waist.

Oh, so glaring that I won't buy the game because of it!

Really?

It would be a really nice detail to have but to call it a glaring error is just ridiculous. Srsly, where do these ideas that the lack of a feature is a "glaring error" come from? FFS is every missing feature a glaring error?

If it bothers you that much you can always model your own unit models without any holsters.

Anyway, there's also a problem with implementing this feature: you can't make a single holster that fits every possible pistol. You could have a different holster model for each pistol, but that's more work.

And who knows, maybe BIS will implement this? It seems they are working on a way to modularize character appearance, so perhaps that could allow them to easily implement holsters.

I'm always checkin out my pistol holder just so i can get a look at my marvelous thighs. I'd like the pistol holder to be repositioned to the inside of the thigh. it kinda makes sense.

I think a much more pressing issue is that since A1 it isn't possible to holster the pistol at all.

Agreed. It's kind of odd when you're armed with a sidearm yet there's already a sidearm in your holster. Also, Deadfast is right. It is damn-near impossible to holster your sidearm unless you have a primary weapon.

As it is right now, it is possible to lower your primary weapon (2x Ctrl as default), but it is not possible to holster your sidearm, so when you are talking to some one, you are talking to them with a M1911A1 pointed in their face.

This is a simple, yet glaring 'feature' and I agree 100% with the OP.

We have already touched on the improvements with respect to gameplay and I'm bringing up something that points to realism for the ground units. You have arcade shooters that get it right, so why shouldn't we point out something that has not been addressed for years for a simulation like this?

The OFP/ARMA/VBS games are the most realistic military simulations EVER, nothing comes close to what is available for the player and the support BIS gives the community. I have been supporting this game since OFP was being developed and I'm only continuing that support by offering advice on something that needs to be addressed because it is one of those things (the lack of a holster animation) that is a glaring mistake, especially for such highly detailed character models in ARMA 3.

I understand what you are saying because you think it is such a small oversight, but that supports my argument for fixing it because believe it or not, it is the small stuff that stands out in a simulation like this that makes it annoying for some of us. ARMA 3 looks so detailed that I would be pissed if this "small" thing is not fixed. I'm a infantry guy that mainly uses infantry or special forces units, so it is a big deal to me.

ARMA 3 is still in development, so I don't understand why you would go against an idea to fix something to make the sim more realistic. You should support this because it only adds to the sim, not take anything away from it.

Little details makes big differences sometimes.

I agree with this little detail anim, also some anim to put your pistol in safe position, same as when you open your Gear in Arma2 and your pistol goes up, but I want it to do everytime I want into the game. Put it down or up, whatever. I barely use pistols in Arma2... but... well

Would like to see a more fluid transition to a fast pistol draw in an emergency.

Those things can be added later. Now they have to complete 3D editor and other major features!

I understand that yourself and others will use the answer of there being more important things to get through first, and you are right because there are.

But how about this for a solution, hire more staff.

Now adding your selected pistol holstered when not in use is about adding to immersion and is paying attention to detail.

BIS have proven that they are the sort who do pay attention to detail, you just have to look at Take On or in fact the emptying rocket pods on the Comanche in A3 to see that. So it may be getting looked at, or it may not.

I hope they do get round to it and some other minor attention to detail niggles as this is what is needed to push Arma that extra mile.

Brother, I hear you. However, ARMA 3 is not going to be released for another year and doing a pistol and holster animation is not something huge or demanding. We are only talking about a built-in script to have pistols in holsters and being able to pull it out and fire, and then re-holster your weapon. It would be no different than slinging your rifle on your back when switching to your sidearm or binos.

People have been requesting this be fixed for years and it has always been ignored and it makes no sense for such a sim that has a strong emphasis in infantry combat to have such a glaring flaw. BIS addressing this issue would take ZERO away from them doing other things.

Its a little annoying and details are very importent, but I rather see them focusing on other more importent things before this(but they are welcome to change it if it doesnt go out over another aspect of the game).

With the game not coming out until a year from now, I don't see how it can't easily get done. We have a year, bro.

they don't even need to hire more staff, I thought they had well over 100 or nearly 200 people working at BIS now, I'm sure they could find the time to do both
