Separate firemode selector switch and burst?

Recommended Posts

As the title says, will there be a separate fire mode selector button for the weapons? It is very annoying when you want to switch to semi auto only to have to switch through all of the 4-5 grenade types you are carrying. This has gotten me killed a decent amount of times in ArmA 1 and 2.

And while we're at it, can burst be fixed? If I am not mistaken, burst works like full auto aside from that fact that it is limited to 2-3 rounds only. But it is not a "press once, automatically shoot all 3 rounds" for real world weapons, unlike in ArmA 2. I know the M16A2/A4/M4 have an even more awkward burst mode, but that might be asking too much to model it.

YES YES YES!

Seperate button for Grenade launcher and grenades is needed for sure.

Firemode selection should only be for that.

To save on key maps, maybe they could program the F key to switch to grenade launchers by holding down the F key for 2 seconds this will be accompanied by the GL leaf sights being raised.

You're mistaken. :)

I would like to see a change for the grenades though. Both frags and 40mm.

We had several accidents because of the actual weapon selector.

f.e. you have your weapon down, and for some reason, you have also selected the hand grenade, suddenly you want to raise the weapon in a middle of a briefing, you click LMB and... WATCH OUT!! GRENADE!! BOOOM!! many team mates are dead :s

It should be separate from fire rate mode and other stuff

Agreed! +1. A seperate button sounds good, so does a quick-menu, and the same key being used for different things like leaf sights. Good posts.

+1 indeed.

BIS should go with the "classic" first person shooter weapon handling. Allow mousewheel to cycle weapons, another bind to switch fire modes and another bind for weapon/world interactions. (Such as resting weapon)

Seriously i would like to see the whole menu-type-gui gone. Those menu's have gotten me killed and frustrated many many times.

I would like to see a Crysis-esque tilt and click of the selector switch where applicable too... only part of Crysis worth taking over.

On the M16, the weapon fill fire the rounds remaining in the burst. Other trigger mechanisms will terminate the burst but the cam position will remain in place, firing a shorter burst on the next pull. Still others will reset the cam mechanism to the starting position so the next burst may fire the full number of rounds.

It's very cumbersome to go through all your grenade types when you quickly want to change firing mode.

I like the ACE2 weapon select system (shift+~=safety, shift+1 = primary, shift+2 = etc), something similar can be done for fire selection (like shift+1 = primary, shift+1 goes to the next firing mode on the primary).

ctrl+F for firemode could work.

The ACE style of course got a fair few votes: CIT

But wouldn't it almost be better for unit-commands to require a modifier key?

Afterall it's only the leader that needs to have access to 1-0, really.

For instance, if you had to press Space before 1-0 commands you could issue

eg:

Space->1->1 = all fall back

that way 1-0 regular could be assigned to equipment and whatever.

hope I'm being clear.

Still takes a bit too much time IMO. These types of actions should be quick.

But assuming we can customize the controls, I will just make left control prone, C for crouch/standing, and X for fire mode selection. That seems to be the easiest for me.
