Einherjer 10 Posted May 18, 2011 (edited) Hey guys - the ARG just inspired me to make an Avatar that contains some Information about me and my homecity - it don't belongs to the ARG itself. But right in 1945, just a few days before the allied troops marches in the Gestapo killed the French prisoners and blowed up the Bridge in the North of the town. Our House, that was standing nearby got some demage from the Explosion. The coordinates leads to a nice Place in the Forest, whitch is my favorite Bikeroute ;) And the Morse Code? ;) Now you Know something about Wolfach in the Black forest But now back to topic Edit: The Grave (its a memorial Today) is here: 48.297113,8.211670 Edited May 18, 2011 by Einherjer
maddogx 13 Posted May 18, 2011 Hey guys - the ARG just inspired me to make an Avatar that contains some Information about me and my homecity - it don't belongs to the ARG itself. You got some peeps excited though. :p Anyway, I'm wondering what to do with the AEnigma Wiki once BIS has made their announcement tomorrow. Depending on the level of detail we recieve on any upcoming projects, it may be useful to keep it around for more speculation (especially if they're announcing Arma3) - but I'm not sure that many people will still use the wiki, now that we're not solving a new puzzle every other day. I'm also not sure it's worth keeping the AE wiki running purely for the sake of archiving our info on the hacks. I would rather summarize everything into a single article on the BI Wiki. What do you guys think? PS: I would like to thank Da12thMonkey, Dale, Daniel, Derbysieger, Farnsworth, Hedo, Kaelas, NoFu, PuFu, Soeren, UnuldorCZ, WackyIraqi and all the anonymous contributors for maintaining the wiki and keeping it up to date in near-realtime. :D
hund 0 Posted May 18, 2011 I know it's all over and stuff, but one thing that has been bothering me about the fifth picture (though it's probably been said ten times already): The little road-side twigs in the foreground are not casting any shadows on the road, while the pole further back is. That is weird.
nodunit 397 Posted May 18, 2011 Just got to wait and see, but what if all assumptions of May 19th are wrong, what then.
hund 0 Posted May 18, 2011 I don't know about you, but if that happens I'll go get an ice cream. The green kind. Or maybe a red one, I like those too. I need to make up my mind as to the fifth picture before any announcements, cause I have bets riding on whether it's real or not. Right now I am in the real camp, but my bags are rapidly getting packed.
maddogx 13 Posted May 18, 2011 (edited) Just got to wait and see, but what if all assumptions of May 19th are wrong, what then. May 19th was confirmed on AAN. As for the fifth pic, I'm in the "photoshopped photo" camp, though the missing shadows in the foreground are admittedly a little odd. Best not to get our hopes up though. An engine that can deliver that kind of amazing visual quality seems too good to be true. Edited May 18, 2011 by MadDogX
hund 0 Posted May 18, 2011 Nah, I think I am going to jump camps and say it's ingame. A man has to take a stand. Or several, as the case may be... Hopefully I'll get to point my finger and go "HA-ha" after the announcement.
sw1 10 Posted May 18, 2011 @MadDogX Perhaps when it ends someone could put a short summary of the entire ARG on the main page of AE, and then leave the other pages as a little piece of archieved history :D I see your point though I'm not sure if many people will read the individual pages once it's over... SwiftyBoy 0 Posted May 18, 2011 This person was an employee of Bohemia, working in the electronic security department. Although developers did not want to reveal their name an inside source from the company told us it was the junior security officer, Miss KoÄka HlaváÄová. LOL. KoÄka means "cat" in Czech - very appropriate for a "Persian" insider, no?

Unless the AE wiki is actively being used for something, I would rather take it down altogether and summarize the info we've gathered on a BI Community Wiki page. No point in maintaining a whole website/wiki just for the sake of archiving info on an old ARG, right? ;) But we'll see what happens tomorrow. If they really do announce Arma3, there may still be a need for a place to gather speculation and tidbits of information. :)

Not necessarily, I think many engines of today are more than capable of rendering lifelike graphics but they prefer 'realistic'. That is to say more bloom, overly brighter skies etc...or the overuse of brown.
mant3z 1 Posted May 18, 2011 Forget about ArmA3, this won't happen... that's just not possible.

Yes, that's "realism" all right. :D Forget about ArmA3, this won't happen... that's just not possible. ^^ I'm going to hold on to this quote just in case. :)
mant3z 1 Posted May 18, 2011 Infidel! 19th of May '11 is a date of the end of the world. You will kiss my feet in the hell tomorrow ;)
nodunit 397 Posted May 18, 2011 Yes, that's "realism" all right. :D I think at this point Realistic gets used too much and for the wrong thing. Lifelike- As close to pure representation of the real world, this includes softer normal maps and less IN YOUR FACE bloom and specular shaders. Realistic- made to be very similar to the real world but 'gamified', normals map is heavy thus making it look 'wet' and specular is too strong making it look too "cartoony" for example if you drive past a white tin roof on a sunny day and look at it, it may hurt your eyes a bit but it doesn't cast a vibrant glow. Hell? you mean we're going to 4chan? :O
Tankbuster 1747 Posted May 18, 2011 I prefer it to be authentic, rather than realistic.
maddogx 13 Posted May 18, 2011 normals map is heavy thus making it look 'wet' Actually, it's overuse of specular effects that give things a "wet" look. :) Otherwise I agree though. The main issue with "realism" in todays games is that the designers seem to be trying too hard. Every effect is "dialed up to eleven", giving the world an exagerrated look. More subtelty would be nice for more lifelike visuals. Maybe BIS has really managed to do that. :)

WackyIraqi 2 Posted May 18, 2011 MadDogX, I'd be glad to host it if you'd rather not. I mean, you do have the domain for a good year why not keep it up :icon_rolleyes:. I think it would be good for all kinds of speculation concerning the ArmAverse. Unless this could all be better suited on the BIKI?

I think it would be good for all kinds of speculation concerning the ArmAverse. Unless this could all be better suited on the BIKI? It's not just about hosting - that's practically free, as you say - it's also about the wiki being maintained, making sure it isn't simply forgotten about and ending up as a playground for ad/spam bots. I could disble editing entirely, of course, but then what would be the advantage over simply putting a summary in the BIKI and taking it down altogether? I have no problem hosting it, but only if it is actively used. The BIKI probably isn't a good place for general speculation on the Armaverse, so perhaps that's what the AEWiki could become. :)
Einherjer 10 Posted May 18, 2011 I think the wiki should stay online - maybe expand it with some informations about the Games and the maps ... But Not from "outside" - more about the ArmAverse!
sv5000 127 Posted May 18, 2011 whatever it will be i cant wait and i have faith in bis that it will be worth it
Gedis 0 Posted May 18, 2011 about wiki, keep it, you should decide what to do later, overall we don't know what calliber bomb those "hackers" gonna drop tommorow... My speculation: from "little boy" up to "Tzar"... P.S. can't wait for tommorow >.<
maddogx 13 Posted May 18, 2011 can't wait for tommorow >.< Same here, I'm totally hyped. It's been a while since I've been giddy with excitement about something. :) As for the wiki, I guess I'll just keep it running and see what happens. If tomorrows announcement turns out to be a whole new game, there will certainly be more than enough reason for speculation.
