jonneymendoza 10 Posted April 26, 2011 i thought getting this a steam is a no no as you cant install and use beta patches and some mods are a bit fiddly to setup?
Leon86 13 Posted April 26, 2011 some mods might be fiddly but it is a large discount.
zigzag 0 Posted April 26, 2011 Thanks, I never look at the store page so I would have missed it if you did not write about it here. Going to buy BAF and maybe PMC. @jonneymendoza. You can use beta patches and I have never found an addon that is harder to install then any other addon, they are all easy to install.
Gunter Severloh 4067 Posted April 26, 2011 (edited) Large discount is nice and all but the frustration and folder setup for the steam version of Arma2:CO as well as patches and what not this game is a headache on steam, best to be avoided. DVD, or sprocket all the way! Think of it this way steam is a nice looking girl, until you find out shes missing her teeth and on crack. IDK I've always had DVD and found it simple and straight forward, Steam is a just a mess to me, your running steam and the game too. jonneymendoza 10 Posted April 26, 2011 but is this compatible with the sprocket version of OA and dvd version of arma 2?

What is so difficult with using steam? all you have to do is click install and the you are ready to go.
Gunter Severloh 4067 Posted April 26, 2011 I'm mostly referring to mods and other things related, I know its easy to install, I had RO on steam.
zigzag 0 Posted April 26, 2011 (edited) ok, but installing mods and other things is done the same way as when you use a DVD, so I dont understand when people say its more difficult to use steam. Edited April 26, 2011 by zigzag
RSF TheCapulet 59 Posted April 26, 2011 Yup, I've been using the steam version of Arma2, with tons of mods, without issue. Never had a problem. Took the chance to buy OA, and the two DLCs. :D Great timing! Thanks.

RSF TheCapulet 59 Posted April 27, 2011 Not that I've looked into it yet at all, but couldn't you just take files from your steamapps folder and implant them into your retail/sprocket version folder? Just from what I could tell looking at the arma2 files while the rest of my stuff is downloading (slow connection), the file structure seems unmolested, and should be able to be thrown anywhere and still work. Yapab 10 Posted April 27, 2011 Ok I want to purchase both DLC's as I have DVD copies of ARMA2 and OA. However I need to know if the STEAM DLC will work with DVD versions? If not, then is it possible to "ADD" the DVD versions to Steam... so they become Steam games? There is an option in steam to "ADD a non Steam" game to Steam, you have to agree to Steams user blah blah and then type the CD-key or serial in.... wondering if this will work? Please someone from Boh reply, I wanna buy but need to know if this will work?
focher 15 Posted April 27, 2011 All mods, beta patches etc work fine with the Steam version.

Dwarden 1125 Posted April 27, 2011 you can't buy STEAM DLC for OA w/o owning OA itself on the STEAM, that's how theirs system works
