Textures look terrible?

Hi guys i have just installed arma OA which i bought form steam and i was playing on WASP server,for some reason the textures look terrible from a few feet away when looking at sandbags,walls,tree,s etc,but when i am right upclose they are fine,i have taken a few screenshots to show you guys and also my setting,please can yous help me:confused:

Windows 7 64 bit

gx-x58-ud3r mobo

i7 920 overclocked to 3.8 gig

6 gig of 1600mhz ram

1 tb 7200 hdd

ati HD 6950

Antialising would not help out, at least i dont think it would. It does not for me. Iv got an GTX 570 and im get them issue also. Its mostly the LOD's in ArmA OA. Dont know if any of the lates patches did any good on that part as im still useing 1.54. Im getting poping in and out on LOD's with vehicles and what not with 1.54, but when iv tryed out 1.56 i was still getting them also. All in all its OA itself.

Got same issue too. Unsure how to fix. Antialising did not make a difference.

Some seem not to have any issues. The question is the issue dependent on GFX? MBO or Drivers? Or something else?

i know this issue to (although my PC is much weaker) but maybe it is "performance" mechanism which not fully load all that if far than some meters (to save effort for VGA/CPU and give better FPS)

i have the same, textures are mid-res when far, high-res when near

but i used to it , although my PC is much much weaker than yours (budget PC from 2008/9) so it surprise me to see this bug on newest and strongest PC

I have 64bit win7 with 8gig ram. I think the graphic glithes are due to game conflect with some GFX drivers.

Thanks for the reply guys,i have tryed it with antialising makes no difference at all,tryed everything on the highest settings and the lowest and still the same,IMO i think its my grapics card,i have tryed it on my brothers computer and he has most parts the exact same as me and he has no issue with the textures at all,the only parts he has different to me is that he has a nvidia gtx 280 and patriot ram:confused:,i have tryed different drivers for the grapics card and made no difference

Dont think its your card as i got an GTX 570 with same issue, as you have tryed out also different drivers and thats had nothing to do with the issue either. Seen people with high end comps and they got this issue too, iv not seen it with out this issue since OA was out. Iv upgraded from an GTX 260 and iv got better FPS with it in OA, but LOD's are still an big issue for ArmA/OA. Just giving an heads up befor you spend the $$ on a vid card. Your not going to get them poping LOD's fix or better textures far away till BIS does its end on that part.

In all words its BIS part for the fixes in this, not your vid card nor your CPU.

that seems pretty typical of mipmapping. another texture related problem i have is with character textures degrading even when close up. this totally hurts the visual quality of the game.

Do not link images over 100kb using the IMG tags to display an image in your post. If you wish to post an image larger then 100 kb feel free to post the URL instead of hotlinking.

That problem is in most games these days. Disable anti-aliasing and up your 3D resolution to get smooth edges without that artifact. Although I personally don't think the performance loss when doing so is worth it. :p

Make sure you set VIDEO MEMORY in the game to DEFAULT and THEN play with the TEXTURES setting. Anything other than VIDEO MEMORY: DEFAULT and my textures wash out and look crappy on mt GTX560TI 1GB DDR5 card.

Move it to that setting, leave it there, then adjust the textures setting from medium all the way up to very high if you system can handle it.

TeAcH is right. Set you Video Memory to Default and the textures should be pretty again.

With the default settings the vram of your card will be used again. With other settings like High or Very High ArmA will not use the full memory.

I had no problems with the textures so far, just the crappie LODs of the vegetation sucks...

Dont see much better textures by video memory default, im useing an GTX 570 most very high settings. If you look at what ArmA 2/OA Memory use on an OC tool it does not use more the 740. It all comes down to the LOD's cause you can have an top system with very nice textures but go about 50m to an 100m out and look at LOD's on an vehicle and there very bad and they pop in and out. Textures are only going to give you crisp texture when up close so it does not matter when it comes down to 50m and out with the LOD's issue, cause the takes it all that out the window even with video memory at default or very high settings.

Depending on your system, disabling 'Post-process effects' is the one that had me turning handsprings of delight down the street when I first tried it because it instantly crisped up the display fantastically-

PIC 1- with PP effects set to Low or higher, note the fuzziness-

PIC 3- And now the pic is so crisp you could count the spots on a ladybirds back at 100 metres.

(actually the effect is even better on our monitors--trust me-- as these shrunken little JPEG screenshots introduce a degree of blurring; i can't use fullsize GIF pics or the moderators would kill me for exceeding the forum size limit)

I have searched the beta patch testing section, and this section, troubleshooting, for "anti aliasing". Came up pretty empty. I promise, I have done thorough testing with different anti aliasing levels, in both the official 76815, and the beta, 78967. I am absolutely positive that there is a grass and other foliage rendering issue in the beta. I can only describe it as "speckles and frosting". This is a different issue than my above post, in which I displayed an "outline" effect. This is the original ArmA 2 benchmark, in Combined Operations, as the OA one does not have much in the way of grass in it:

As you can see, that's pretty extreme, and ugly. I have most definitely tried different video memory settings, from normal down to default in the drop-down. I have even tried restarting my game every time I would change the memory setting. Everything renders absolutely fine in the official patch. It is not my card overheating, as I have a GTX 480 with roughly 1.5 GB of memory. I wasn't pushing the HDR or post processing at all; those combined with 8x AA is a bit taxing, but they were set at normal. It's not an issue of running low on VRAM. I am not trying to cause trouble, and I hope that someone can confirm this because it has been going on for nearly a couple months. One more thing, this is not unique to the grass or trees in the benchmark; I have seen this on any island.

Almost forgot, I have been going back and forth between the official and beta Nvidia drivers too, issue remains.

I'm getting a similar error, with post process on high or off I always get a black blur around all objects, its insane when trying to use TI as you hardly see anything.

I'll post some pic's and then show you my spec's.

That's with post-process effects disabled, note the smoky blur around the grass and telegraph lines...

When i was making these screens, the picture would often fix itself and remove the blur, but reverting back to it almost a split-second later... never had these issues with a quad core @2.5Ghz with a ATI HD 4650... seems the better the system the worse it handles it / more bugs..

I'll be adding a video shortly, to showcase this TI blur and other blur better.

*Warning, if you have photo-sensitive epilepsy then do not watch the TI bit of the vid which starts @00.37

The photo sensitive stuff starts when shooting the M230 cannon, graphics just go hay-wire!!

The lines issue actually looks like what I was seeing in that osprey pic. I think I reproduced that in 76815 though.

Here are some other picture's of texture issue's I had a while back (about a 6 weeks) which have fixed themselve's to some degree...

I think that's a more common issue; I haven't tested that in between the official and beta though yet. What draw distance do you use typically? Not saying your setting is causing the problem, just curious. The default high setting of 2400 doesn't help the problem, I notice. When I run the ArmA 2 benchmark at 2400, the textures on the houses and trees flicker quite a bit. I think 3600 alleviates it a little, but I can't remember for sure.

Your specs shouldn't be a factor in this, in my experience so far.

I have the latest beta but am not running it as of this moment as my clan sticks to stables but the community I play with stick with beta's, when I have time I'll test to see if the issue is still there with the beta.

Not exactly lines but a haze around the objects, however i did have that lines issue when using an ATI card, only really visible while using TI, its an issue with ATI/AMD cards I read somewhere.

Yeah its set to 2400m, but doesn't this setting go out of the window when you play on mp? as I often up the vd to 5000-10000m, regardless of that I'll have a mess around with the vd and see if I can sort the issue, though as said before its sort of fixed itself over time...
