dmarkwick 261 Posted February 16, 2011 part 3http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/02/16/the-very-important-list-of-pc-games-part-35/ Nice to see Startopia get a mention :) that was one vastly overlooked game, which I still have installed today.

krycek 349 Posted February 17, 2011 Finally Deus Ex was mentioned,I had almost went ballistic when it wasn't mentioned in the first 3 parts. That game made me use black reskinned troops as MJ12 and the black suit civvie as MIB in A2CO.:blues:

Dwarden 1125 Posted February 18, 2011 imo the list is still lacking too many games :) at least i played nearly every title mentioned :)
Smurf 12 Posted February 18, 2011 Yeah, you can´t please everyone. But I like the people at RPS, they hava a taste for games like mine. Where else ArmA and MoW are in the spotlight many times? ;)
von_paulus 0 Posted February 18, 2011 Some titles missing. And one of them is Operation Flashpoint.
-Snafu- 79 Posted February 18, 2011 It was great to see Close Combat 2 on the list.
TechnoTerrorist303 10 Posted February 19, 2011 Also, it's not just the game that Doom heralded, it heralded the monster demo. 25% of the game free as a demo for the rest. Bargain :) Doom was by no means first with that either, I'm trying to think of the first example but Wolfenstein 3d was certainly earlier.

jblackrupert 14 Posted February 19, 2011 (edited) Doom was by no means first with that either, I'm trying to think of the first example but Wolfenstein 3d was certainly earlier. Games like Doom steal the thunder from a lot of other games that introduced the things that we still see today. Just because a game had a gazillion sales doesn't necessarily make it "Important". Doom was the COD of it's day. Games like Ultima Underworld had a HUGE inpact on First person games but because it wasn't as well known and popular it got buried under the hype. concurssi 11 Posted February 19, 2011 The huge sales already make Doom and Cock of Doody important. They will still be remembered years from now, they are so deeply embedded in gaming history now. I liked Doom BTW.
ProfTournesol 956 Posted February 19, 2011 ArmA2 but not OFP ? No Rogue Spear ? IL2 ? This list is so incomplete that it's just ridiculous IMHO.

Yes, but when you're playing games, take a look at what you see and think of the games put many of those elements there. When you first loaded up Doom did you go "HOLY $%^%$" when you saw it? It was a fun game but at the end of the day nothing really new. it was just another FPS. Same stuff that was around for years just done well. When people loaded up Ultima Underworld and looked UP/DOWN all around and walked on inclined planes, .. that was something that people went WOW over. Last time I went HOLY $%^%$ seeing a game for the first time was Crysis I spend a good hour just walking around making leaves bend.
concurssi 11 Posted February 19, 2011 A game doesn't necessarily need to bring something new to the table to be important history-wise.

jblackrupert 14 Posted February 20, 2011 (edited) that was in times when i was Young :D And you bought games by the weight of the box.. The good old days of goodies, paper and cloth maps, thick awesome manuals even an included novel if the game was based on one. Arma 3 needs something like that. A super awesome special edition with lots of goodies and manuals like Falcon 4.0 and Red Baron. Edited February 20, 2011 by jblackrupert
