Finally Deus Ex was mentioned,I had almost went ballistic when it wasn't mentioned in the first 3 parts.

That game made me use black reskinned troops as MJ12 and the black suit civvie as MIB in A2CO.:blues:

Yeah, you can´t please everyone. But I like the people at RPS, they hava a taste for games like mine.

Also, it's not just the game that Doom heralded, it heralded the monster demo. 25% of the game free as a demo for the rest. Bargain :)

Doom was by no means first with that either, I'm trying to think of the first example but Wolfenstein 3d was certainly earlier.

Games like Doom steal the thunder from a lot of other games that introduced the things that we still see today.

Just because a game had a gazillion sales doesn't necessarily make it "Important".

Doom was the COD of it's day. Games like Ultima Underworld had a HUGE inpact on First person games

but because it wasn't as well known and popular it got buried under the hype.

The huge sales already make Doom and Cock of Doody important. They will still be remembered years from now, they are so deeply embedded in gaming history now.

Yes, but when you're playing games, take a look at what you see

and think of the games put many of those elements there.

When you first loaded up Doom did you go "HOLY $%^%$" when you saw it?

It was a fun game but at the end of the day nothing really new. it was

just another FPS. Same stuff that was around for years just done well.

When people loaded up Ultima Underworld and looked UP/DOWN all around

and walked on inclined planes, .. that was something that people went WOW over.

Last time I went HOLY $%^%$ seeing a game for the first time was Crysis

I spend a good hour just walking around making leaves bend.

The good old days of goodies, paper and cloth maps, thick awesome manuals

even an included novel if the game was based on one.

Arma 3 needs something like that. A super awesome special edition with lots of goodies

and manuals like Falcon 4.0 and Red Baron.
