Battle of Britain: Storm of War (il2 sequel)

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what you guys think of the new il2 sequel called Battle of Britain: Storm of War?

I have always been a big fan boy of il2, but I'm not feeling the look of this game. Don't get me wrong, the models are freaking awesome, but the terrain just doesn't give me an eHardon like Wings of Prey does. I wish I could mix them both together.

Two new recently released videos.

Its just never going to be the IL2 we all know and love. The originals up to 1946.

Yeah, I tried the PS3 version of Birds of Prey and it was just way too easy.

With the original pc versions I just loved defending the Finnish airspace from evil red stars. :)

Can't get that feeling from these new arcade versions.

Besides you pretty much have all the planes in earlier versions to create your own Dover battles..

Having said this I must admit if I get a chance to fly as Galland then I'll throw my euros in, haha.

Nothing is better than the original, but maybe this will be better than nothing.

what you mean Ben_S ? this is developed by Oleg and he said he is considering it 'sequel' (i think you mismatching BoB with Wings of Prey' which used earlier version of the engine we will see in BoB)

I'm with Dwarden. I think we should not judge SOW with BoP. They were not even made by the same companies.

Perhaps it will turn out good, Oleg did an awsome job on the older IL2's, No, I'm not mistaking BoB for WoP, I hope im wrong and its a fully worked out game worth of the title "sequel to IL2"

But, Perhaps its the common market covering my eyes over these few "good" developers left. Like these and the such. I just hope all this time and effort thats they've spent on it is worth it. Which, after a quick bit of research, has got my hopes up for this. ;)

Well, SoW was supposed to come out years ago, and it was supposed to be a Battle of Britain 'sequel' to (the original) il2. What they have to show for it is another matter. I suppose.

The reflection map renders seem incremental to the render improvements they brought with the I-185 and its normal maps.

The fact its directly Oleg and the company then its going to be IL2 sequel, IE All of what IL2 had with more graphic improvements and updates in that theatre of war.

Bottom line, its no port, no console based and is back to the purist / specialist area again as it always was.

Things why you can tell, it has better graphics, but no film gloss and retains that simulator look of all IL2, the sound engines are the same (wish that would change) but on a good note you can see its coming from updated IL2 engine.

Nothing of this looks like the spin-offs we have seen recently.

On the forums they say this will change.

I like Rise of Flight aswell, but it lacks a solid singleplayer campaign. I know you can't compare WW1 aircombat with WW2 aircombat, but the simulator itself is very nice.

Yeah, and after some research of the game itself, I came to this conclusion as well. :)

Is this going to have a proper dynamic campaign ala Falcon 4.0 or are we going to have another dynamic mission generator instead?

i've been looking forward to this game for ages. it is common joke on il-2 forums that oleg wants everything so perfect that he's measuring the grass in France.

also, apparently this is the first part of a new series using the same engine one of which apparently takes place in the Korean war.

Haha, with how long this game has been in development from what I hear; that may just be true. :D

Korean war you say?

This game soon becomes the longest developed game in history, not counting Duke Nukem Forever...release in two weeks :D

I'm hoping for a less inhuman AI (without non-overheating engines, and turns so close that a Su-35 could shame itself), working engine oil-systems (means hitting oil radiator brings down the dang plane), and not laser-precise defensive gunners on planes.

Also hope that if there will be future expansions with Russian planes, then they aren't going to be the terminators of the skies (hello mister I-16, LaGG-3 to name a few).

If it eventually looks and runs like WoP but plays like IL2 this is going to be nice...

I forgot about this game completely. I thought it had died or something. Turns out Oleg is just making sure its chock block full of awesome. And from what ive read theres still something to be done, like the sound (I thought that video was a nice reminder of the old Il-2s with the funny aircraft engine noises). And a Korea War flight sim. Sounds great!

I know the campaign is battle of Britain, but I hope they ad the Hawker Typhoon and Gloster Meteor, those aircraft are full of win. Id love to do a mission where we get to shit on some German trains using a rocket-phoon

Yeah, when I saw the thread here I didn't realise it was the same game I had heard about those years ago now.

I wish IL2 would look as stunning as WOP, but most of the screenies look like a heavily modded Il2 4.10.

The graphics look good enough for me. as long as the destruction model works like in il-2 i will be happy.
