kylania 568 Posted September 26, 2010 Judging by the CRT monitor and Windows XP and Nvidia driver dying, I'm going do with "Not meeting the system requirements". What's your PC specs?
mj23polaris 10 Posted September 26, 2010 what specs are important pentium 4 3GHZ 2GB of ram nvidia Gforce 6800 256MB direct x 9 memory 2046mb of ram
ProfTournesol 956 Posted September 26, 2010 Your CPU isn't dual core, so it doesn't meet minimal requirements hereunder : Minimal system requirements:Windows XP or newer Dual Core CPU 256 MB RAM & Pixel Shader 3.0 or better DirectX 9.0c or newer 9 GB free HDD space
mj23polaris 10 Posted September 26, 2010 so im fucked then?
ProfTournesol 956 Posted September 26, 2010 I'm afraid :(
hund 0 Posted September 26, 2010 wow, thats a sucky situation. However I must applaud you for making video of your error, first time I've seen that. I guess you'll have to get some extra work hours in so you can get a new CPU (I'd recommend a new gfx card as well, but that's optional I guess). You should be able to get some bargain bin parts pretty cheap - how long they will last is another matter tho. Good luck matey, hope to see ya on the servers soon. Kristian 47 Posted September 26, 2010 Reading minimum requirements is a good thing to do before buying a game. Also, I think ArmA2 Demo is downloadable trough steam, so you should have tried that first. I think there is no way we can help you, but to tell to get better parts, sorry. :(
Vanten 10 Posted September 26, 2010 (edited) I'd say that it's the gfx-card that does causes the error since it's a display driver error. Do you have the latest drivers for your card? Latest directx? The CPU might also cause problems, but whenever it's a single or dual core shouldn't make any difference, except for performance. Correct me if im wrong on this one :) Edited September 26, 2010 by Vanten

Correct me if im wrong on this one :) Aye, just ignore what developer says is required. I mean, what the hell does he know about the game he programmed. They just write random stuff in there, mostly payed by Intel to force people to upgrade their CPU with every new game they buy. We all know that ArmA 2 still just runs fine on a C64. 5133p39 16 Posted September 26, 2010 besides, i remember old times when i had P4 3GHz and gf6800, and i was barely able to run OFP:Resistance in some medium details, and ArmA1 was completely unplayable even on the lowest possible details. So no, he doesn't need just new CPU, he needs new everything.

I've tried this myself just now. Go into msconfig and set the amount of processors (cores) to one. Reboot and you'll see that the game still starts and works as usual. Pentium 4 and I7 are still x86 processors so no difference there. Whenever the game runs smoothly on a P4 processor or not, is a completly different question. Still I don't get why he'd see a nvidia driver failing due to him not having two cores? In the above mentioned test my nvidia driver did not fail.
Tankbuster 1747 Posted September 26, 2010 That's an ancient GPU you've got there. Compared to that your CPU is absolute cutting edge. Is the 6800 shader 3?
ProfTournesol 956 Posted September 26, 2010 Is the 6800 shader 3? Yes it is. And contrary to what i thought, Pentium 4 3hz seems to be a single core but with dual logical processors, so it may work (it is even listed in the minimum requirements on the wiki). rundll.exe 12 Posted September 26, 2010 You're wrong cause the game needs two cores. Im pretty sure you're wrong and the game will work (but crappy) fine on a single core PC.
ProfTournesol 956 Posted September 27, 2010 Im pretty sure you're wrong and the game will work (but crappy) fine on a single core PC. Yes yes, after further search and readings, that's basically what i said in the above post.
Crunchie 10 Posted September 27, 2010 Crikey! You need a new pc, man! How long have you had this set-up? Spending less and £500 will get you something 4-5 times as fast.
no use for a name 0 Posted September 27, 2010 (edited) The video card doesn't meet the minimum requirements at all (Geforce 7800/ATI 1800) It's more than likely his video card... Edited September 27, 2010 by No Use For A Name
Gunter Severloh 4067 Posted September 27, 2010 (edited) Agreed, Definatley his Graphics card. pentium 4 3GHZ 2GB of ram nvidia Gforce 6800 256MB direct x 9 memory 2046mb of ram I have almost the same setup as you: I have a AMD 2.4 2 gb ramm Nvidia GTx 260 896 memory 750watt power Upgrade your graphics card and you should be able to play np, but depending on the card you get, you may or may not be able to play with high settings. My setup I can play max settings depending on the mission, but most of the time every thing is on all low, but the game still looks good, and i get good fps. This topic should be in the troubleshooting forum. Edited September 27, 2010 by Gnter Severloh
