ArmA Scripting Language

Recommended Posts

This is a long time over due.  We really need some kind of code name to refer to this growing scripting language.  It has come a long way, and I'm certain there are more features/commands to come.  Here are a few examples that a few of us put together.  Feel free to contribute any other names.  biggrin_o.gif

Some interesting facts/references regarding the extension names of the scripts and other files we work with today:

Sqs = Status Quo Script

Sqf = Status Quo Function

Rvmat = Real virtuality material

Feel free to contribute if you know any others smile_o.gif

According to biki:

PBO = packed bank of files

And I guess p3d = poseidon 3d, but not sure...

I always thought p3d was Plasma 3d. Don't remember where I read that though.

I voted BI Script.

But what about RVScript (Real Virtuality Script)? smile_o.gif

Now this is important wink_o.gif

It must relate to the engine name, which has officially(?) changed from "Poseidon" to "Real Virtuality". Since that's not easy to say, I say we need to start with a catchy acronym, then make up something that fits, no matter how meaningless the full title may be!

eg

"SLERV" - Script Language Engine of Real Virtuality

"SARVO" - Script Actions for Real Virtuality Operations

"LARVA" - Language Appendix for Real Virtuality Actions"

etc, etc...

This webpage may help smile_o.gif

Even though real virtuality-something or poseidon-something refer to the engine name, I would prefer BIScript because (to me) it seems a bit more descriptive, linking the scripting language to the company. (Probably because most people don't refer to the engines by their designation anyway).

They already got a name,

The name for script written with a .sqs extension are called sqs scripts, and for the scripts written with a .sqf extension are called sqf scripts.

ehh, the point was to give the scripting language a name.

we call them sqf scripts Because of ther exstention.

but thats not its real name. Poseidon Script seams to be the real name.. not that i like it,

And "called" and "named" are 2 diffrent things

I agree, something like 'RVS' (Real Virtuality Script). It has to be easy to remember and make sence.

Is it me or does BI script sound kindof plain? I actually thought battle script would be kinda cool pistols.gif However, RVS or Poseidon script would work.

Poseidon was the ancient Greek god of the sea, while "The Poseidon Adventure" was a book (and two movies) about a ocean liner named Poseidon that capsizes.

Which is as i said based on a sinking ship banghead.gif so....

if the god of the sea and a sinking ship had the name "Poseidon".... Why link a Land and Air combat simulator script to the same assosiation of such... rofl.gif

Anyway i still vote "R.V.S" sounds cool biggrin_o.gif

Poseidon was the name given to the very first pre-OFP 3D environment developed by BI .... as I recall. Hence why it gets my vote.
