Include ArmA2Free as combined ops lite in the next patch

Recommended Posts

I think it would be a good idea to include A2F as CO lite in the next patch, as many people can't play CO servers due to lack of content, and this would solve the problem. There would be alot more players on CO servers, and personally, I think there is alot of good content that shouldn't go to waste.

And even more important, why should people who have the full game already be forced to download (for them) useless stuff? I mean, we don't talk here about additional 100 MB.

Well, already people can AFAIK download A2F and merge it with OA, like it says here on the table http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ARMA2_PackageCombination, but the quality isn't high, and as for the people who already have the game there could be some content scanner for people who already have CO. It's just lest hassle so there could be more people playing CO servers. People would buy Arma 2 for the same reasons they buy DLC.

Yes people can do it by themselves. No need to add it to a patch.

I think the table says that ArmA2:CO has a content from ArmA2 (and can play MP with ArmA2F as a result through arma2.exe)

Last time I've checked AA2F can't be combined with OA

NO .. Dont do that.

Ever since bistudio released arma 2 free, sure a promotion for the up copming arma 3, but as a server admin it has been a total night mare to police. A total night mare also for the good and mature game players that are swamped with immature and destructive players that contantly kill them and also call of duty rejects who only think that the smart and cowardly thing to do is to kill your team mates who are not supposed to shoot back!.

By not releasing a free version of CO you keep the OA version free of being infected by these continual destructive and dangerous players who ruin it for everyone else. Im not saying this doesnt go on in AO now but it is far reduced by a great margin.

the free versions also made more prevalent the amount of hacks we now get on our arma 2 free servers that tend to get restarts at peak periods from around every 15 mins to a few hours. So you can just get into the game and get some good gear and then it has to be restarted due to hackers doing whatever they think is "funny" or "owning" .

No need to integrate to patch, you can combine A2Free just fine to create CO lite (no official A2 campaigns / missions, and lower quality textures).

"-mod=C:\games\arma 2 free;expansion" aka just like you would combine original arma 2 and OA when installed separately.

While you can also copy Addons and DTA folder from A2 Free.

(Will add support to SU for it as well; http://dev-heaven.net/issues/25790)

@DevilDog; nobody is speaking about free OA (and thus no free CO).

Best report the issues in detail to get them fixed:

Allowing free players into CO would be the death of this game at least on the public server side.

A2F virtually destroyed the ability to play on vanilla servers.

The majority of free players are decent but all it takes is 1 retard TK'ing and destroying assets on a server to render it unplayable.

won't happen until Arma3 release, IMHO.

BIS had[acc to new]quite marginal income from Arma2, so they try stay afloat as best as they can. p.s. buying extra-boxes of Arma2/ArmaOA/PMC&etc will rise that chance/make this time closer.

tell all you friends about wonderful suprt-duper videogame, named "Arma2", please :-) or link them to some great/funny/shocking moveis on youtube, about Arma2, you can find by Google :)

So they do provide A2 Free separately, so you can make CO-lite.

However they won't put it in a patch because their A2 sales were low?

IMO strange logic, as IMO they wouldn't make A2 Free available _at all_ if it were the case.

Also A2 Free has lower quality textures, and no missions/campaigns, so anyone wanting the best experience should buy it anyway.

However I do not see any reason to put A2 Free in a patch. If you don't own A2 Original, you can download and install A2 Free. No need to add 900+ MB to a patch, while many people don't need it anyway as they have A2 Original already.

Six Updater fully supports CO lite if you install A2 Free yourself, and in a few days you will be even able to get A2 Free through Six Updater,

making it even easier to setup or enjoy Combined Ops servers.

its not "strange logic", but marketing/sales logic.

tiny, but important difference, IMO.
