How to make OA work with FRAPS or vice versa?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

FRAPS works like a charm in ArmA2, but not in OA, it's a 1 FPS slideshow and even the sound breaks up. This is weird since I actually have less FPS in ArmA2 than in OA.

How do I make OA and FRAPS like each other? :jesus:

Thanks in advance,

Laggy

I get this problem intermittently. I tried everything I could think of - removing LOCKED framerates, adding or removing the cursor during record, half size or full size... nothing "fixed" it. Sometimes it's a 1 FPS slideshow. Other times it records ok around 25 FPS.

FRAPS v3.2.3

ARMA2 OA v1.52

AMD X64 5000+, 4GB RAM, Win7 32-bit (yeah I know, I have wasted RAM), ATI 5750 1GB DDR5 card.

Hi.

Try to add -exThreads=1 into your startup parameter.

Thanks, but it didn't work, same slideshow as earlier.

I actually have an Intel E6850 C2D as well, I run Vista, 3GB RAM and a 8800GTX though.

Very weird, since ArmA2 (on less FPS in Chernarus) works much better with movie FRAPS recording.

Will try the patch and see what happens, otherwise... GOOD BYE VIDEOS !!!

EDIT: FRAPS actually makes OA stutter and lag, even after a game restart and when NOT running FRAPS, seems like I have to restart my computer to get back to normal. FRAPS version 3.0.3

I am stumped

I have the exact same problem. 1fps slide show. Sometimes I can record at a steady 25fps but then it just drops down to 1 later on in the game.

Core 2 duo e8500

Fraps 3.2.2

Steam version of OA

Win 7 64bit

Maybe it is better to run an older FRAPS version. I don't know if that solve this issue, but just an idea.

Same problem here. 3.12 Fraps version, I could Fraps @ 1080p in Arma 2 but AO gives 1 to 6 FPS, no matter the resolution.

Beta fixed it somewhat, but there is still stutter.

edit: I managed to get proper footage with Beta patch and 1366x768 (720p) res with textures on High, everything else VHigh, 3km VD. This is on Littlebird scenario mission; online fraps'ing will have even better results. Will do more testing.

Nvidia 9600 GSO 1.5 VRAM

Which beta is that? I can't find any beta patches anywhere.

Latest Beta patch, highlighted green. Use the readme.

P.S. Fraps footage up of SP action, FPS is most of the time at 30 (specified) with some HDD activity when Fraps writes a new file, or there are textures loading, otherwise smooth sailing at Max settings, VD 3km, AA medium.

I have only made one OA video project ( unreleased ) and I had no issues with low framerate while recording.

I only just got the game yesterday

OA version 1.52

Fraps version 2.9.9

my Intel Core2Duo system:

Saving the file to a different physical Harddrive than the game is running from helps. ;)

I run the game off my 300 Gb WD and save video to a 74 Gb WD. I only make one project at a time so drive space is less an issue than it would appear.

I've 2.5.1 and I've a diashow on my system (X4 955, 4890 OC, 4GB blah...). It was bad in ArmA2 but with OA it got much worse.

I'd really like to know if it's worth to get the newest version of Fraps but as it sounds the version actually isn't the problem and it's somehow related to the PC specs.

First of all. Please contact the developers for FRAPS. Their e-mail is help@beepa.com

Second - the VERSION of FRAPS you are using is very important. There are critical differences in how fraps uses memory and caching and its sharing of cpu time. Depending on your system specs an older version of FRAPs may give you significantly better performance than the latest version. I've highlighted in red the versions that made major changes. You should try the revision before it. For example, I'm using version 3.1.2 as that works best for me. When they added cached playback it decreased FRAPS + ArmA2 performance.
