    DCS World 2.0

It looks like we'll be getting a major update for the Caucasus Map some time this year. New terrain mesh, possibly an extension of the map area and collidable trees. For once I welcome this kind of feature creep and the delays that go with it. I think every helicopter pilot will appreciate the new trees and higher terrain detail. Right now I won't touch helis on the Black Sea map. Nevada simply looks much much better at low level. There is more info on the map overhaul in this live stream VOD: Also, there is a Summer Sale on right now with up to 50% off modules and some bundles: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/ Personally I'd recommend the Nevada Test and Training Range, L-39, the Mirage 2000C and the SA-342 Gazelle. These are my most flown modules right now. Especially the Gazelle is a lot of fun to fly and fight in (provided you have rudder pedals):

What games are you playing at?

Besides Arma 3 which I play almost exclusively in multiplayer with a realism unit (2 times a week) I don't play many games but the few ones I do play I tend to play quite a lot. DCS World My favourite and most played "game" of all time. I have all the modules except for the two 3rd party trainers but my favourites right now are, in no particular order, the L-39C/ZA Albatros, the A-10C Warthog (my first real flight sim!), the MiG-21bis, the Fw 190D-9, the UH-1H and the Mirage 2000C. I love learning the in and outs of an aircraft - studying manuals and charts and learning tactics, I love flying and building multiplayer coop and PvP missions with different aircraft types that have to work together to succeed, I love WWII PvP. I recently took part in a gigantic online PvP Campaign called Blue Flag. All in all it's a fantastic experience with endless possibilities. It's got a strong editor, similar to the Arma series, which makes building simple missions really easy. The Witcher 3 Possibly the best gaming experience I've ever had. I played and enjoyed both TW1 and TW2 but this game is on a whole other level. I'm currently waiting for the big expansion to begin my third playthrough. I haven't touched Hearts of Stone yet. Honourable mentions: Kerbal Space Program. Haven't played in a while but I really enjoyed my time with it. I'll definitely revisit it at some point. Age of Empires II HD Edition: I play a round of skirmish from time to time but I'm not very good at it xD Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm: Again, something I haven't played in a long time that I enjoyed a lot and is probably worth revisiting

    The Witcher 3

So he actually kinda liked a Witcher game. Nice. To be fair, the game is really, really good. Hard not to like it I would imagine. BTW there is a quest that is a really cheesy advert for DRM free games and gog.com^^

New ED Newsletter is out. EDGE is coming along quite nicely, mostly bug fixing and implementation of the new MP client & browser - lots of new features there, including dedicated servers, favourites and filters (much needed!). New video of the old Map in DCSW 2.0: New video of the NTTR Terrain (Las Vegas). Video is in real time! The L-39 Albatros is looking good as well, both cockpits almost finished, completely new external model on the way, avionics and flight dynamics are being implemented and refined and the development of multiplayer multi-seat capability is a big focus right now. If the Beta release will feature multi-seat capability is tbd. Video: Work on P-47D and Spitfire MkIX is ongoing but nothing new to show. Work on the F/A-18C is continuing as well, mostly focusing on the implementation of the A-G radar atm. Strait of Hormuz map is also being worked on but focus is on NTTR and EDGE right now. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=142724

Oh hey, NodUnit! :D I didn't even look at who posted^^ Would renaming the aircraft/weapon/vehicle whatever be enough though? What about the design of the aircraft/weapon/vehicle itself? I completely understand your point of view and I agree with what you are saying. If I'm paying for something I expect it to work, I expect a certain degree of quality assurance and I expect a fix if something breaks. Here is where I actually think that people worry too much. If payed for mods don't provide sufficient support, are low quality, too pricey or generally don't live up to expectations I think that word will quickly get around and people simply won't buy and that's it. Generally, the way Valve implemented it, I can't see this working outside of games like DotA 2, TF2 and CSGO and even within these communities there have been problems with stolen content in the past. I can't even begin to imagine what a clusterf**** this will become within big modding communities once more developers incorporate this model into their games. And as Tonci already mentioned, the EU has very strict consumer protection and Valve is already on the radar of EU courts so this opens a whole other world of potential problems with the way Vavle implemented it.

It's not like we haven't seen mods being DMCA'd in the past (that LotR Mod comes to mind). This whole point just made me think about another thing: What about weapon packs or other mods containing weapons and Vehicles? Wouldn't you need a license from the actual weapon manufacturer if you wanted to sell a mod containing M4's, M16's, M14's, HK 416/417 etc? Or if you make a mod of a popular vehicle? Say an A-10 or an AH-64... I know that one of the third party devs (VEAO) for DCS had to delay their BAE Systems Hawk T1A module because they had problems acquiring a commercial license from BAE (I think when they first asked they were actually presented with a license to produce the real aircraft lol). Granted, DCS does way more than simply using the aircraft name and visual design and I really don't have any knowledge about all this legal stuff but it is still something to consider and I can't imagine that mods like this can be legally sold without a proper license from the manufacturer.

    Dcs f-14 a/b

Leatherneck's MiG-21Bis is extremely well done. IMO it has the best cockpit that we have in DCS right now in terms of overall quality and detail and the aircraft is very challenging and fun to fly so I'm absolutely hyped for their F-14! Newest estimate on release: But always remember: McCarran International Airport: It looks incredible. I'm really looking forward to the new terrain.
  11. I'll probably have to say DCS World considering how much fun I have with it and how much time I've invested in it. Despite problems that can be frustrating from time to time (e.g. lacking damage model, the current version is only getting the most important hotfixes because of EDGE being not far off) it's shaping up to become an incredible platform for extremely detailed combat flightsims spanning different eras with EDGE coming up next year and third party devs releasing their first aircraft. The MiG-21Bis by Leatherneck Simulations is a fantastic module that's only missing era ground units and a worthy adversary like the F-4 Phantom II. There are an F/A-18C (ED) and a F/A-18E (Coretex) in development and there are several new maps planned for 2015 (NTTR, Strait of Hormuz & WWII map). The old warbirds that are coming out now are absolutely fantastic simulations and even though there is not much WWII content yet there's already a lot you can do with them. I'm really looking forward to the Spitfire and P-47. The alpha version of the WWII map should come out sometime next year for Kickstarter backers as well. It's a good time for fans of combat flight sims! The only combat flightsim comparable to DCS regarding the depth of the simulation is Falcon BMS and even though it is an absolutely fantastic sim (Dynamic Campaigns!), I wouldn't be playing it if DCS was offering a dynamic campaign of similar quality.

    Best other military simulators?

You really need a joystick for that one! The Thrustmaster T.16000M is probably the best in the <$50 category. I'd never recommend DCS to anyone who doesn't have at least a basic stick or isn't willing to invest in one. Beware though, once you get into it DCS tends to be a huge drain on your wallet :D I probably spend ~650€ on Hardware alone, just for DCS. Doesn't include DCS modules I purchased or my new GPU or my new RAM, It's just stuff like Rudder Pedals, TIR, HOTAS, Joystick ... My favourite module is probably the Mustang (pedals very much recommended but also works with twist rudder on a stick) but I also love my A-10C. Huey is fantastic too but I highly recommend rudder pedals for that one. Edit: The next Patch brings a Free TF-51D which is the two seater trainer version of the P-51D. It has no guns, can't carry weopons, no fuselage tank and no Radios but otherwise it's the P-51.Still has the clickable cockpit and everything. Enough to get familiar with WWII fighters. You can already try it if you load the DCS World Beta Edit²: If you get a stick you should also try Falcon BMS which is a mod based on the old Falcon 4.0. I have never seen anything like the dynamic campaigns in Falcon BMS - it's amazing and doesn't even look too bad for a game that old (especially with texture mods).

I wouldn't hammer you it just seems weird to me because for me it's only a bit slower compared to stratis. Seems like there are major problems on some PC configurations...

Night is too bright after 0.55 dev

In the second video the moon is up. If you have a moonless night you can't see anything without nvgs, just silhouettes against the sky. What I will say that the sky is a lttle bit too blue. IMO it needs to be a darker tone to feel right. This is what a moonless night looks atm (July, 1st 2035, 02:00h) : And this is with 100% overcast: I don't know how you can make that any darker tbh
