  1. Will these feature the segmented destruction feature that the stock buildings have? (I expect not, because I would imagine that would quadruple the workload for each building, but I am hopeful.) Overall they seem to be really beautiful for the detail level you're going for. I just hope that sometime BI will do something to the AI that will make them work in and around buildings, because just like with their own buildings it'd be a pity to have the space inside these be wasted for the AI, since right now they can't properly use these. One example is the Hotel on Altis. Beautiful structure, but useless for singleplayer and in coop against AI since they won't go inside in any useful fashion.

    Development Blog & Reveals

So aside from the podium discussion, will we see some hints at Arma 3s future including expansion material? Or is that planned for release at some other date?
  3. Have you noticed by the way that the US plate carriers and the AAF carrier with the holster now shows the pistol in/near the holster? Was this mentioned in some changelog that I missed? Edit: Fancy!
  4. Except spintires is a specialist simulation, and Arma isn't. You could cheat by using parallax mapping for threadmarks like Warthunder does, though.
  5. Firstly, men and women are physiologically different and thus cannot be run through the same physical testing regime. Limb for limb, a woman is not as strong as a man, when both are of equal fitness and otherwise completely average. Psychologically, they are also slightly different but not enough to warrant differing tests. Psychological tests are also kind of mushy, and one has to consider than women in "men's jobs" often face increased scrutiny and generally higher stress levels that affect their performance. The expectation of success or failure affects the results. An example is a test made in the US, afaik, where two equally rated groups of whites and blacks were run through a school type of test (college level, if I remember correctly, but that's not really important for the results.). One set was given the test without having to declare their color of skin, in this set both groups fared equally well. The second set had to declare color of skin in their tests. This immediately raises the notion that somehow, skin color is important to the test, why else would the testers put it in there? This group had a statistically marked difference between whites and blacks, blacks scoring worse. Not because they -were- worse, but because they felt they were normalized to being worse in their minds, simply by having to mention their skin color. This also goes, secondly, towards the second point. You cannot have easier tests for men because of flawed perceptions, because the reasons for the differing results between men and women go -far- beyond plumbing and instead are also affected by class, race, gender roles as well as personal aspirations of the individual within their given surroundings. Another thing that is important is that in our society, women can completely forego their classical role of childbearing and rearing in favor of excelling at whatever physical or intellectual profession they chose for themselves. We have the equipment, the knowledge and the time to adapt our bodies within very broad ranges, and there is -nil- reason why people should be excluded from any profession if they can meet an acceptable standard. For example, the german KSK is allowing women to participate in their selection tests. Because of the extreme levels of performance demanded by the type of work the KSK does, women have to face exactly the same test as their male counterparts do. However, the KSK is not the police, where you can adapt your selection tests to sex specific average performance profiles for the sake of increasing your selection pool. This can be intelligently done, and is necessary, because equality no matter what sex or gender a person is. Misandry is a no go, though, and that is what academic, radical feminists are about. They are crazy woo, out of touch with the real world, but they unfortunately are extremely noisy and are well connected. Only things that help against them are self consciousness (Am I sure that they are the asshole and it's not me), humbleness, love for your fellow human being (provided they do not want to wreck you.) and consideration that even Idiots are allowed to make their position known. Everybody needs a hobby, unfortunately, radfems picked one that is ultimately detrimental to the discourse between women and men as well as class and race. Countering them with practicing sexism and misogyny makes one as bad as they are, though.

T-14 Armata to be shown on 9th may parade

These things look pretty damn well protected. And they truly are using an unmanned turret. That's pretty neat, actually. I wonder how many people the BMP variant can carry now. Overall, the turret on the MBT looks a lot boxier now.
  7. Academic feminism is what's usually taking the forefront in these discussions, and it's a bankrupt Ideology. It ignores problems of race, class while focusing on often mushy and scientifically unsound Ideas about gender. I am completely for the inclusion of female characters in Arma 3 because females make up 50 % of the human species. But generally, academic, middle class, white people feminism is a kind of misandry. For example, there are feminists who claim that males cannot be victims of sexual assault or spousal abuse in relationships. Which is wrong. They also deny that such a thing as a sexual drive exists and that any kind of sexual objectification (or even an innocent glance) is actual violence. But people objectify each other all the time, in all societies, no matter their age or their gender. These people also deny that transgendered people should be considered whatever gender they perceive themselves as because it is "gender appropriation". Similarily, sexuality in general is viewed in extremely strict, conservative contexts. In this worldview, all men are bad, all the time, while all women are above scrutiny. Good example is the recent gamergate debacle which was completely hijacked by "feminist" ideologues, while completely ignoring the original issue that gamergate was about (ie, bad press practices). I used to be very much in tune with these people, but the more I hop around on tumblr, the more I read about human psychology and about the human condition, the more I feel like these people are as out of touch with reality as free market libertarians, NWO believers and oldschool communists.

    TOH South Asia Map

f'n hell, thank you! Amazing to see this ingame, it's so brilliant for large scale tank battles. Now we only need the 32 km viewdistance from TOH and we're set. Actually, you could probably do long range border raid missions (since the map depicts the border region between karzhegistan and takistan, there is a massive border checkpoint and a long fence through the mountains) as well as deep recon special forces stuff. There's a weapons testing site on the map, and there's also Shapur on the map including the airfield. The thing that made the map not work for me a lot of the time was the absence of roads. Making convoy missions was impossible. Is that kind of thing even possible, technically with this massive map?
  9. RHS T-80s. Excuse my shitty graphics, PC can't handle the game. Important part is, the tanks can be used to rest your gun on. How sweet is that?

    RHS Escalation (AFRF and USAF)

Did more comprehensive driving testing, found the following: T- series tanks drive like go-karts, with crazy acceleration. All T-80s will rapidly accelerate when being reversed by the AI and then turning. When the fps is low, this sometimes leads to a runaway acceleration. Acceleration on all these tanks is unbelievably, almost comically quick. The suspensions are also incredibly stiff, resulting in the vehicles feeling very weightless on top of being more susceptible to being flung around by scenery than the vanilla vehicles. The being thrown around is very dependent on fps, too. At around 30 fps it usually only happens when driving against/over scenery. At 24 and lower it can even happen when turning on the spot or changing speeds. I have only tested the russian tanks so far, no IFVs or any of the US tanks, because I am most interested in running the russian vics in MBT patrol and support missions. But right now they are too unreliable for me or AI, with a 50/50 chance of ending up on their backs in a half hour mission. Is there any chance of making this a focus at some point, tracked vehicle behaviour?

    RHS Escalation (AFRF and USAF)

There are other games who run physX, who do not have anywhere near the problems Arma 3 has with it, though. Running any mission with tanks, especially addon tanks, results in flipped vehicles. There are also some instances where the RHS tanks accelerate to top speed (or beyond?) in half a second or so, especially when going reverse. When they then touch an object, they get flipped and thrown around. The jerky way Arma 3 runs tracked vehicles doesn't help either, but the RHS vehicles right now suffer a lot from it, especially when driving yourself. For example, the T-72 series turns unbelievably quickly when stationary on its tracks. The Namer has the same problem, the other tanks got fixed at some point, so I suspect config work can alleviate some of the problems. I would love for the vehicle simulation to get some love from BIs side, though, because right now they are way too unpredictable and unreliable.

    RHS Escalation (AFRF and USAF)

Anybody else have problems with the RHS tanks flying around, being flung into the air or shooting off horizontally? I am trying to pin where the problem is, wether it's some kind of problem with the vehicles or if its a mod I run or if its Arma 3 in general. Arma 3's vehicles used to have this problem a lot, but they got tweaked a lot, so maybe it is a config problem?
  13. Will the normal nato vests get updated with appropriate Magazine pouches at some point? Right now they still carry 556 magazines more appropriate for the AAF.

    Audio Tweaking (dev branch)

Only thing that's missing is some sort of reverb, and terrain occlusion. Is the engine capable of that? Arma 1 had a rudimentary terrain occlusion system, but that even turned a single tree into a hill and ignored hills at times. Listening to a battle from a distance is much more immersive now, just the little bit of an edge is still necessary. What I am noting right now is: Distant sounds get slightly attenuated, but there is no reverb and refraction. Especially the refraction is important, I think, because it's a major part in sound occlusion.

    Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/Daesh) Discussion

Bloody hell... Like a shot out of a cannon. Though, contrary to Arma, I think this wasn't a clipping issue with the terrain...

T-14 Armata to be shown on 9th may parade

What I don't get is why it only has two hatches if it has three crew. At least, on the photographs it looks as if it only has two. Barn like turret probably houses automatic feed systems for coaxial gun and electronics. If the crew has no access to it, you can't service the MG without leaving the vehicle, so you want it to run on its own. The MGS did that in a much smaller package, though, so I don't understand either to be honest. All other tanks they built have such low turret profiles, and they have crew inside. http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/andrei_bt/18425682/321750/321750_original.jpg Old picture of a prototype? Armata also includes wheeled BTR type vehicles and tracked IFVs, which will probably also be shown. The blog Blu3sman linked also has pics of those. http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/andrei_bt/18425682/366312/366312_600.png

    Audio Tweaking (dev branch)

No pleasing this community, apparently. :( The sounds are much better than before, no more aliasing and overboost and sound carrying further than 700 meters. That alone makes this a clear improvement for me.
  18. TOH Terrains. Screenshots below: VD 30 km, terrain size is 100 x 100 km. Getting this + some kind of way to make the AI work on it, adding roads and actual water surfaces would be the bomb. For tank battles and air support missions, this map is the bomb.

Game-Mode That YOU Think Should Be Official

How about a 16 vs 16 tank battle with single-player controlled tanks. Then add a tree of modern tanks from 1980 until 2020 and make it a free to play game with realistic gameplay simulation and such, cool game modes, super detailed tank models, and approximately realistic fire controls. Then call it ARMA : Composite Warfare and beat world of tanks, war thunder and that other new game to smithereens with superior czech style and the grandiose powers of developer and community combined, by which the free to play game world will be turned upside down forever and ever.

    Audio Tweaking (dev branch)

Will we get realistic distances for the sound to carry over, or at least half realistic? Right now, a distance of 1 km from a firefight makes it just -barely- audible. You can hear conventional fireworks at that distance, and those are not as loud as rifles and grenades. Tank guns can be heard at a distance of 30 kilometers no problem. Even making rifles carry 3 km and tank guns 5 km would be a massive improvement.
  21. Okay, I am a bit angry right now, so my post may not be up to cuts, but I feel somewhat validated in voicing a complaint. 1: this is exactly the same as the demo mission 2: It has the same problems 3: Difficulty of this mission is bonkers. I have played on veteran through the campaign, with 0 to 1 reverts on each mission, mostly 0. This mission I have 12 ish reverts now and never even got past the first checkpoint. Out of all of those retries, only once did any teammembers survive past the alpha point casualty (as in, they walked up to the rock there, and got shot immediately.). I had one occasion where my team didn`t even get off one single shot once spotted, and was wiped out wholesale. Can you please explain to me how you are supposed to win this mission without hanging back, waiting for your team to get killed, and then lone-gunning it? (Which isn`t possible outside of CQB because the AI for some reason is -freakishly- accurate in this mission. In all previous ones, no hits, this one, people sniping from 400 meters (beach) up to the hill to the right side of where alpha point was, with ironsights, and killing me by faceshots. Meanwhile, my own "team" (the only time someone survived, literally only -one- guy made it past the first checkpoint) bungles down the valley floor, and gets shot. Literally, one single shot. No spoilers since I haven`t even gotten to the meat of hte mission, because you can`t even survive the flipping intro. All settings are default, no mods are used, no dev version is used. I have done no tweaks to the config as far as AI either.

Well, as long as the uniforms are available to be used and can be found in the arsenal, I don't see a problem with hiding the Units.

MX Rifle = CMMG MK47 Mutant Rechambered to 6.5?

Until you look on the other side and see the charging handle. There is no gun like the MX. And without seeing the internal parts, there is no way to know wether the gun's based on anything or is an original design. Maybe somebody should just write to CMMG if they wanted to find out?

What game features would you pay money for?

60 fps with 1200 AI and nobody clipping through walls, but so far the NSA hasn't allowed me to tap their new computing center for those delicious extra terahurtz. Dang spies >:( But seriously. Campaign in the 60s - 70s in south america and I'm going to throw my money in bunches at whoever does that with Arma 3.
