  2. New versions of the spreadsheet and the Voice Attack profile are available. This time, I included AI commands. You can use this profile to issue spoken orders to your AI squad. Now there are more than 500 commands in the profile. I don't play with AI very often but I wanted to make the profile more complete and possibly more useful for others. The VAC-profile hasn't been updated and I decided to remove it. As usual, the latest versions of the game and the listed software and addons at the time of editing the opening post are covered.
  3. I am updating my profile for Voice Attack and I am struggling a bit with the APEX key layout. Now, the number keys are used to choose weapons and also to command the AI under the player's command if units have been selected. I'd be grateful if those who use Voice Attack with the APEX keyboard layout could explain how to make voice commands for the AI without interfering with the weapon selection. Are you perhaps even willing to share your VA profiles?

    Problem solved. One of the mods I use caused a bit of trouble and I just had to change a few keys. The updated profile is available in the thread hidden in the spoiler in my signature.

    [WIP] Terrain "X-Cam-Taunus"

    The screenshots show incredible attention to detail and they look very authentic. There are several rivers in the real Taunus region. I wonder whether some of them will be in the map even if this would probably mean that technically you'd have to make islands separated by thin stretches of sea? I liked the river in the old Celle map which provided some interesting gameplay with bridges that served as choke-points and boats and amphibious vehicles which could be meaningful as tactical assets.

    Kat91 Probably the simplest way is to ask your friend who created the group to send you an invitation (using the name of your BI account). You will find this pending invitation in Your Groups in ArmA 3 Units. Just click to accept this invitation and your name will appear in the members list of the unit.

    I'd say yes, even though I agree with Hill_G. People should definitely concentrate on their safe descent but firing a quick burst might suppress the enemy for that crucial moment. A long firefight during rappelling just because you can would probably be a bad idea (and a good lesson). :)
  8. Just a quick thank you! I installed version 7 last night and tried it on Stratis, only briefly. My first impression is that the changes seem to be very subtle, the grey tint is gone, but it doesn't change the general colouring of the game too much. I have yet to try it on Altis and Tanoa and community islands.
  9. In Pilgrimage, a mission which plays exceptionally well with TPW, we do have AI who drop their weapons and surrender. As a player you can interrogate them for info and release them or you can say "Thanks for your valuable input!" and annihilate them anyway. That is gruesome enough, isn't it? :) I can understand kraut1's motivation but I also believe that this is out of scope of TPW MODS. I personally like it when AI units are programmed to avoid a fight they cannot win just like human players.

    I don't know if this makes any sense but couldn't rappelling be connected to an object in the inventory? I am thinking about something like the shovel in ACE: Everybody has the ability to dig a trench, but you need the symbolic object in your inventory. I call it symbolic because it there is no real digging animation.

    spark23 As far as I understand the unit logo isn't working as it should and the devs are looking into it. In the meantime you can still use the traditional squadXML which will be displayed on uniforms and vehicles. If you already have one, just disconnect your Steam Account from your BI account so that the SquadXML can be displayed. If you don't have a squadXML yet, just google for a "Squad XML Hoster".

    Thanks for taking the time to reply, BohemiaBeck. it is good to know that you are still working on the subject of communication between members of a Unit. In the meantime we will handle all communication with our members including applications exclusively via our website, forum and Teamspeak. But I am very interested in the development of A3-Units and it is a pleasure to try any new features and improvements. Another question: You said you're looking into an issue with the Unit patch. I am wondering if there is or will be a way to deny certain members of the unit or certain ranks the use of the squad emblem?

    Yes, it is. It works fine in COOP and TvT on a dedicated server. I can't thank Taosenai enough for this addon and I use it a lot in SP and MP.

    Everybody who wants to join a unit must have a BI-account. So I thought that it would be easy to communicate with the members of our unit by forum PM. Unfortunately not all of our 27 members can be found on the members list. Here are the names of the members of our unit who are not listed as members of the forum: - Dominus Aquilae - Knochenbone - Jason Miles - WatchUr6 - B4d Horse - Mantilla - Fridelcastro - Duke Debil - zuck - nephilum - michaelzwerg - RedLabel - [A] Salbei - Slant_ - CColumbus - Isamu - PandaAdler Am I doing something wrong or is something wrong with the members list of the forum? If there is another way of contacting unit members who have joined the unit while the recruitment status was "open" please kindly let me know. By the way, I have changed the recruitment status to "private" and found that applicants have the option to provide an email address. Perhaps it would be good to make this compulsory so that it is possible to get back to an applicant easily. Another alternative is to manage applications traditionally through our website. Then we surely get the contact information of our applicants but they may or may not bother to register to our Arma3-unit which is also not ideal.

Our unit https://units.arma3.com/unit/gruppe-adlerhas one member too many. 18 Enlisted/Officers + 2 Unit Leaders = 21 Members :) Another idea: You said you would consider several suggestions regarding unit management but understandably not everything is at the top position of the priority list. How about adding a large text field to the members page, so that the units can explain the ranking system they really use?

    Every owner of the game has a Steam account but not every owner has a Bohemia account. Wouldn't it be good to give people the option to join a unit with their Steam account? Another quick idea: Could you make it possible to edit edit roles (Unit Leader, Executive Officer, Officer/Enlisted) just like we can edit rank and title of the members? This might help to create a roster which reflects the organisation of the unit a bit better.

    Thank you very much for the possibility to change the names of the ranks. (In our unit we don't use military ranks, we categorize our players in groups such as guest players, regulars, applicants and full members.) It would be convenient for us if the rank headlines (enlisted, officers, etc) and the rank icons (chevrons, etc) were made optional. When I changed the ranks of our players I had to change the rank of every single person individually. It would be easier to replace a rank with another word and everyone with the same rank number would automatically receive the right title. Our unit: https://units.arma3.com/unit/gruppe-adler

    Arma 3 and 21:9 monitors ?

    I was in the same position a few months ago. A 21:9 screen looks very sleek on the desk but I decided against it because I need the monitor not only for gaming but also for productivity. I didn't want to buy a screen which sacrificed a lot of the vertical space you get in traditional designs. But I found that my graphics card could handle ArmA in the full resolution, so I gave up the idea.

    Invisible women. (Could be a USP so some, maybe.) :) But seriously: In my opinion the biggest feature is moddability. This is what has kept me playing since OFP. Mods have added so many features to the game that I wouldn't even begin to make a list.
  22. I have made a new version of the spreadsheet using game version 1.58 and the Apex preset. The spreadsheet is accompanied by a profile for Voice Attack (VA). As usual, the purpose of this profile is controlling the avatar and the game itself, it is not designed to order the AI around. The profile has been tested with the German version of Win 10 Pro. I have included a few more addons: ACRE, Blue Hud, and Paddle Mod The old profile for Voice Activated Commands (VAC) is still there but I won't update it, any more. Some observations for those who are interested in voice recognition software: A few keys don't seem to be triggered even if the command is understood by the software. When this happened in VAC my workaround was simply to reconfigure the keys in question. VA, however, gives us a few options to try. If they all fail, you can still reconfigure the keys: - You can choose either "Windows input" or "Direct X input". Games normally work with the Direct X input method but if a key is not recognized you can try the other method. - You can also change the duration of the virtual key press: if the input duration is too short the command will be executed but nothing will happen in your game. - Sometimes simultaneous keystrokes will not be recognized. Then you will have to record a sequence of key presses, instead. (This is not documented in the help file.) When you train your Windows speech software the instructions tell you to read with a very clear voice as if you were presenting news. I found that I don't talk like that when I speak to my computer. I tend to speak with a low, slightly flat voice. I guess that's because I concentrate on what I'm doing at my PC and the commands are not "acted out". Does this make any sense? Anyway, I completed some training sessions in this voice and this made the speech recognition even better. If you wonder why I don't use LMC any longer: I have tried and I discussed the result in great detail with Livrot, the author of LMC. From the technological point of view LMC must be the most advanced voice recognition software and Livrot is a kind person who listens to user feedback. LMC has many interesting features but unfortunately this makes the user interface very complex. I find it confusing and unintuitive but I recommend it to anyone who's a bit more technically minded than I am.

    When I saw the renders I had to think of the "pound of flesh" from the Merchant Of Venice. But Shylock was supposed to take the pound of flesh without spilling any blood and that clearly is not the idea of this addon!

    Thanks for answering, flax. I understand this from the technical point of view. I also don't see or fear any malicious use. But if someone really loves ReColor he would have to convince the admins of all the servers he might use to install the keys. Real Light is probably more difficult to install than ReColor but it isn't a mod and therefore doesn't require any discussions of this kind. It would be great if ReColor was a part of ACE.

    I am a bit concerned about usability in a dedicated-server-environment - assuming that not each and ever player is interested in re-coloring his game. Does this mod have to be allowed by the server, just like any other client-side mod?
