Quick question: Is there any way to integrate this AAA (amazing as always) mod into auto updater tools like playwithsix and so? Because right now, if i'm not wrong, it's not in six updater, isn't it?

  5. +100000 First mission is really great, it's like running 10km and the racing the dakar and just after you cross the finish go to the volvo american cup and then... everything happens too fast!! Give the players some of "the calm before the storm"
  6. Hi all, Thinking about the next release of the last campaign episode, Win, by BIS on 20th of March, a quick reflexion came to my mind that maybe could be usefull tu BIS on his next products. Right now, the schedule created by BIS on this campaign is the following: - Dev branch release during the lasts days of this week - Stable release on 20th of March. So, assuming that they will release the dev branch campaign on 15th of March, Saturday, they will have only 5 days to fix the bugs we find. If we take a look to any guide to software development, we will find something very similar to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Beta, and talking about open betas, we can read this on wiki: "Open betas serve ... [to] testing among an extremely wide user base likely to bring to light obscure errors that a much smaller testing team might not find" So, the main idea for the open beta, as BIS has said a lot of times, it's to help them in finding bugs, but if we only have 5 days to complete the campaign and report the bugs.... how can they fix the bugs we find? Maybe they could think.... ok, if in the open beta they find critical bugs we can pospone the release date and problem solved, and for minor bugfixes, we will have enough time. Let me say NO, and as an example in the second point, let's talk about "adapt" campaign release. - Official release was 21th of January, 2014 - Dev branch release was 11th of December, 2013 We have one month to play with, and in that month lots of people reported, as a quick example, that the side missions were hard to find, i even finished the campaign without making any side missions because i don't know that this feature exists. And in the official release, this "lack of documentation" was still in the campaign, luckily, no critical bugs were found. And what could happen if we found critical bugs on this WIN episode? Ok, as i said, maybe they can pospone the release date, but this could lead to a bad feeling in the potential customers of BIS products, because, let's be honest, in the videogame market, BIS is not considered as a "bug-free" development studio.. so, this can lead to a loss of sales on BIS next products. So, what can BIS do about this? It's a very easy answer. Don't say anything about release dates until bugfixing process in the dev branch has finished!! The main idea is: - Release XXX new product in dev branch - Start with marketing stuff without saying anything about release dates (or something like... latest 2014, give yourself enough time!!) - Bugfixing process ( bugfix -> new dev version -> bugfix -> new dev -> bugfix -> no more bugs) - Announce release date - Release a tested product without critical bugs So, here you have my two cents, hope it's usefull for someone here :P
  7. Tip, if you want to simulate an bomb car set the waypoint of the car to the position you want and when the car is there, set dammage to 1 by doubleclicking in the car.

  10. Anyway in the overall, and playing the campaign as a lone soldier with "mobile targets (AI)" that distract enemy from sooting at me, talking about mission execution and argument.... i liked it. Main missions are well planned and don't have any critical bugs, and argument is good (at least i remember the names of the main characters), but needs some tweaks like: 1º) Explaining how can you do side missions 2º) Explaining that there is a tactical map where you can choose between missions 3º) Making AI less agressive and more obedient to your orders (you are the leader, they are suposse to follow your orders)
  11. Yep, and that's how an armored vehicle destroyed my whole squad (12 AI) that were in outside at less than 8 meters from the woods. They decided to keep going prone, saying "GO, I COVER!!"stuff and running from rock to rock in open fields while the enemy vehicle plays the shoot the duck game with them. Totally crazy.
  12. wait a second, this campaign has side missions? wtf bis, why don't you explain this?
  13. Don't know how to put spoilers... anyway, Spoiler about Orestes mission: In helicopter ambush mission, if the helicopter detects you, he goes away and fly behind surrounding hills and nothing happens. I tried to go for the heli but as soon as i left the mission area marked in red on map, the heli dissapears, so i restarted the mission. end spoiler

    Arma Memes...

  18. Indeed. Cannot believe that i didn't have a single bug during the whole campaign. Also it's fun to play. Well done BIS, very well done :D
  19. my pip works fine. Specs: i7 XXX Mhz, 6 Gb ram, ati 7950 and ssd where i installed os and arma 3.
  20. but, where do we/BIS put the line of what is a collection of addons and what is a total mod? DayZ or wasteland are mods or missions? If inv44 (just an example) don't have SP campaign, is a collection of selfmades addons or a total mod? Also, if you pay for a mod, you must have a minimum level of quality and support, so mod developers will need dedicated people for support/testing, it's not going to be acceptable to launch a mod with bugs, poor content, etc... so probably addon developers will need to spent maybe too much time (i'm thinking on big mods like ace, acre, inv44, csla, etc..) on developing his mods, the logical conclussion of this will be the financial expectations, is the effort of the development of this mod enough to spent so many time? Are we going to be capable of earn enough money to dedicate full time to delevop and support? is this "small" community the market where i want to be? aren't going to be easy earn money with my addons in a bigger community? Too many questions from the developer point of view. If i was one of them i would be very concerned about this change.

Action Menu - must do better

As i said on Arma3 engine thread, this issue and better bugfixing process should be mandatory on BIS HQ from my point of view, let me copy paste: btw, someone knows if there is a list of all the possible actions available in a fresh arma 3 installation? (no mods or addons or so)
  22. Totally agree with vilas, pay-for-addon model will be a community killer, i prefer the smurf solution, modders should be paid by BIS via steam workshop + donations.
  23. Like on bf1942/bf2 times? Arma is still here. Looking far away from mods, graphics and stuff like that i remember a post i typed when ArmA? can't remember, comes out, and i think is still valid, so let me retype it again, everything down here is my personal opinion, based on being "working" on gaming industry and being computer engineer for more than 10 years (damn, i'm too old!) BIS is an amazing company, but has an amazing problem. They focus on making the game they want, not the game that market demands, and on this point i'm not talking about having a Arma: COD series. The key problem is that, as BIS is making almost the same type of game since 2001, looks like that they can't change anything on game creation process. Since OFP, BIS releases ALWAYS had the same problems: - Bugs: Sometime more, sometime less, but we always had a big issue on release: On Arma 3 is game performance and game not using all cores available. Solution: Hire a good test team, deploy new test procedures, white/black boxes, etc... The impact on BIS sales of this point is critical. Gamers all arround the world always think that BIS games on release are always bugged, so they won't buy it until patch 3 or 4. BIS, you are loosing tons of money with this problem, instead of updating graphics you need to focus on having a product as bugfree as possible, example: On my first MP game i saw the no blades on chopper bug. ¿No one on BIS saw it in all this years of development, seriously? - GUI: For god shake, we have the same gui since OFP, seriously, can't be updated? take a look to Battlefield and his radio communication!! Solution: Hire a good GUI creator. Let me show you a good example, take a look: http://www.gamesajare.com/2.0/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/excel_teclas.png Those are all the possible keys combination used for making all actions in arma 2. Can you imagine the face of that newbie guy that wants to join to the arma multiverse when he saw that screenshot? Making things easier for new users is not related to lower the simulation quality of the game. BIS need to revamp the whole GUI and reduce the amount of keystrokes needed for playing the game. A good example on this point is Battlefield 3. You can do this actions without using a keystroke: http://battlefield.wikia.com/wiki/Commo_Rose . Ok, i know that we can do more thing in arma 3 than un BF, but the key point is that BIS need to make the interface more user-friendly, we cannot have a 2001 gui on a 2013 game.. From my point of view improvements on those points should be mandatory for BIS, but, as i said, it's only my point of view
