MrAgentGuy 10 Posted July 21, 2010 (edited) Hi bis, im wondering if you guys will finally add support for articulated vehicles! :p:D For example, this vehicle > I would love to see this vehicle in game, but altho models have been made, it seems impossible to create a script to make a vehicle like this work effectivly... so i ask if you guys can add support for this! :) Imagine what possiblities there could be if you added support for this? This video shows what you guys did for VBS, but im wondering if you could make something like this for OA? frederf 0 Posted July 21, 2010 It would be amazing. Not only would proper articulated vehicles work but it's a perfect entry point for towing (like a 105mm howitzer) to get better.
savagegoose 10 Posted July 22, 2010 well a real physics engine would do that. maybe arma
STALKERGB 6 Posted July 22, 2010 well a real physics engine would do that. maybe arma 3 I'm sure this can be done in ARMA2 in at least some form, possibley not in a super tidy looking fashion but still possible i guess
rksl-rock 1301 Posted July 22, 2010 Ideally we need PhysX support as in VBS2
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted July 22, 2010 Ideally we need PhysX support as in VBS2 Ideally, ArmA would be reality. Is ideal ever truely obtainable? ;)
rksl-rock 1301 Posted July 22, 2010 Ideally, ArmA would be reality. Is ideal ever truely obtainable? ;) In this instance, yes if the programmers add it it is perfectly attainable. (Why always so negative?)
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted July 22, 2010 In this instance, yes if the programmers add it it is perfectly attainable. (Why always so negative?) Negative? No, that was just some philosophical BS. I'd be glad to see articulation/towability implemented in RV (besides VBS). What I do know is that, usually good enough takes priority over ideal. :)
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted July 22, 2010 Articulated vehicles would be nice, very nice indeed. But does VBS support articulated tracked vehicles like the image in the first post? Fully understandable if it doesn't though...
fighterman 10 Posted July 22, 2010 someone is making some of them for arma
kremator 1065 Posted July 24, 2010 someone is making some of them for arma 2 Who is making them?
Kristian 47 Posted July 24, 2010 Gnat created something like this in ArmA1 via scripts. ;) EDIT: He did NOT use scripts... I am even more amazed :p
MrAgentGuy 10 Posted July 24, 2010 (edited) Who is making them? Pathy on the forums, who is a member of the ukf modding team has made the vehicle i linked in the first post, but he cant make it articulated so he has put the model on the shelf for now. Gnat created something like this in ArmA1 via scripts. ;) EDIT: He did NOT use scripts... I am even more amazed :p cool, we must contact this guy! :D Edited July 24, 2010 by MrAgentGuy
Pathy 0 Posted July 24, 2010 Well, thats not entirely correct. The UKF team have a viking model made (Orsons work), but no means of articulating it.
Nicholas 5 Posted July 25, 2010 Gnat used what is called a pin and hole method. (Or something like that) It doesn't work all that great without a real physics engine.
savagegoose 10 Posted July 25, 2010 nice work tho looked cool, keep on truckin'
lee_h._oswald 0 Posted July 25, 2010 Nice video! I want it now!! This and RKSL Cargo System! MfG Lee
TechnoTerrorist303 10 Posted July 25, 2010 You could add articulation using scripts but it would require doing a lot of calculations in a loop that would be constantly running. A few of those on the map at any one time and you'd begin to have performance issues. I can't elaborate on the exact technique at the moment as I had little sleep and I haven't got nearly enough coffee inside me yet to think about anything other than a bacon and egg sandwich. MrAgentGuy 10 Posted August 17, 2010 I finally got a reply from a BIS dev, and this is what they said; Hi, I'm afraid suport of such "crazy" vehicle isn't in the plan right now. Also, it's not realy easy to just pick and drop stuff from vbs to a2 and it's also very sensitive regarding to the deals with military man. At the moment, I can't confirm nothing like that coming, but, who knows? im sure the "military man" wont mind if we implement articulated vehicle support? surely? :D
-=seany=- 5 Posted August 17, 2010 it's also very sensitive regarding to the deals with military man. I think its pretty sad if contracts with "the Man" mean we cant get upgrades that other game devs would jump at to improve the experiences for there fans.I guess that's why it took so long to get FLIR. Darkhorse 1-6 16 Posted August 17, 2010 Well guys, VBS2 is made by BIA, ArmA II is made by BIS. They are located in two different countries, and while they are related, they are not the same group. Don't naturally assume that they can port VBS2 material over any time they want, they would have to go through legal loops, probably with BIA, whatever government the content is licensed to, and the original creator of the content. (I know atleast one person who created alot of content for VBS2, and it's a community member, not a BIS Dev)
NeoHazard 10 Posted August 17, 2010 lol, Arma people get VBS handmedowns. that smells.
Darkhorse 1-6 16 Posted August 17, 2010 ArmA is basically a watered down version of VBS, although in terms of performance & graphics ArmA 2 is better imho. It doesn't "smell" that we get VBS2 stuff every now and then. We don't have to get anything at all.
whisper 0 Posted August 17, 2010 The price is watered down, too... But that's something people are soooo quick to disregard in these days of "I want it all now for free"...
dm 9 Posted August 17, 2010 ArmA is basically a watered down version of VBS VBS is more like ArmA on 'roids.
