Lynx smoke generator v1.0

I made a new unofficial addon, this time a Lynx Smoke Generator, which is used to produce large white clouds of fog oil vapor which blinds all visibility.

Cool, smoke dispensers on vehicles is something I've been wanting for a while. Does that amount of smoke cause much lag?

EDIT: Just tried it out, works great. Another winning mod Kegetys... smile.gif

EDIT 2: Are you sure it doesn't affect AI, I have always been able to successfully hide from AI in smoke clouds.

Oh, and, does anyone know if the russians have anthing like the Lynx? I would very much like to make an equivalentfor them. I know tanks have smoke generators, but the smoke generator must be the only weapon the vehicle has for it to work in OFP so it cannot be added to tanks.

Nice. Apart from the fact that it won't affect the AI and that it might be a bit heavy on slower machines, it look very, very nice. smile.gif

How long does it take for the fog to dissolve again? Does it work in MP?

The smoke doesnt make much FPS loss, as there arent that many smoke puffs, they are just very large. If you are standing in the middle of the smoke though the FPS can take a large hit, but it doesnt matter much as you cannot see anything in there anyway wink.gif

Edit: The smoke dissolves in about 90 seconds, I have not yet tested if the AI gets blinded by it, but it does work in multiplayer so you can make human opponents blinded.

If it would work on the ai that would be really cool!

I remember some older posts where someone from BIS (Suma?) was stating that they had some problems implementing this in OFP (probably too heavy on the cpu to determine for each ai unit if it can see something through the smoke or not) - so smoke grenades and stuff won't work on the ai.

If smoke worked on the ai, there would be many very ( VERY! ) interesting uses for it. Anyways - multiplayer is also good. :-)

Can you post a direct link to your smoke generator, kegetys? Because everytime I try to load your site, the progress stops at 1/3... Right after the commercials... sad.gif

Is it possible tp get AI to use the smoke discharger? I tried it out but couldn't find a command to make him use it, and he didn't seem to use it on his own initiative.

You can get the AI to fire the smoke generator with the command 'tank fire "KEGSmokeGenerator";' but it will only make him release a few puffs... So you would need to make script that loops that command for about a minute or so... like:

_x=0;

#loop

? _x > 120 : goto "end"

_x = _x + 1

~0.5

smokeTank fire "KEGSmokeGenerator";

goto "loop"

#end

executing that on a waypoint/trigger would make the unit "smokeTank" release the puffs for one minute... I have not tested that though but it should work.

Why is that smoke white?? It looks more like water steam. It should be dirt brown like the original smoke confused.gif. But otherwise it's really good work. Nice one!

EDIT: Oh, it's a smoke generator for vehicles. I didn't read it properly. But can you do brown smokes for the desert islands. when driving a car the sand would raise from the ground kinda same way like in those pictures. That could be cool effect and very realistic. smile.gif

Another top notch addon by Kegetys, this vehicle is very realistic and looks like the actual vehicle in US Army inventory read about it from http://www.fas.org

Just tested it yesterday, no considerable FPS loss and the smoke REALLY covers a huge area as in real life. This could turn into very tactical weapon especially in open areas like Desert Malden...

Just tried it. This is truly a marvelous addon. I'm very picky about what addons I keep, but this one is of high quality. And the smoke takes no noticable price on FPS count.

BTW Kegetys, the links on your addon page such as the Winter Kolgujev and such are broken. I've been trying to download that for a while now, but could never find a working link.

Great job! It's seem to be a little Addon, but i think that it will give us a lot of Fun on the game. One more time, Kegetys show his skill and original think! smile.gif I put a news about it on our French Web site.

No it's not. When you get out then the last puffs of smoke simply grow in size, thus enveloping you and the M113.

If the wind is blowing the way your are moving the smoke will of course move with you and not get spread properly (as stated in the readme)
