Leopardi 0 Posted July 5, 2010 ATI users are struggling with this option since the vsync option hasn't worked properly for years. In other words it's purely based on luck if you want vsync off. Why isn't there an option at in-game settings? Would make it so much easier. No need to install 3rd party programs just for getting vsync disabled in one game. Nutlink 10 Posted July 6, 2010 I'd love this. Right now the only reason I have ATI Tray Tools installed is for this very reason.
enad 11 Posted July 6, 2010 YES. This NEEDS to be in the Video Options menu. Would help so much, I've tried everything but I cant get my FPS to go above 60 FPS in ArmA 2 because that's my Monitors Refresh Rate.
bono_lv 10 Posted July 6, 2010 Agree. I've been asking for this from Arma 2 day one. I'm forced to use ATI try tools to get playable fps and get rid of mouse lag. While I am able to run mods I don't know yet is it possible to run CO with ATT.
Leopardi 0 Posted July 7, 2010 Please BIS add this to the next patch.
Iroquois Pliskin 0 Posted July 7, 2010 +1. You will get stable FPS with Vsync off in Arma, otherwise it keeps jumping from 60 to 45 to 30 and 15; 30 to 15 and back is pure nightmare - you get the idea.
katipo66 94 Posted July 7, 2010 I have to jump on board and add my vote... if its no real biggie then please add the option
-=seany=- 5 Posted July 8, 2010 I tried running with vsync off and saw no difference in FPS or input. What I did get was the addition of some nasty screen tearing, even when the FPS where below my refresh rate.
madine75 0 Posted July 8, 2010 I'm currently using the Cat 10.4 drivers (old, I know) and can report that VSync is working via CCC.. FPS maxes out at 60 fps with the odd dip below that..

You dont need to force it on from the CCC, it is forced by the game already. And yes, Vsync needs to be an option. This is one of the most demanding games on the planet. WHY is it an good idea to force Vsync on BIS? It can only lead to mouselag and performance drops. Those who cant stand tearing can enable it. At least put an switch for it in the .ini file jesus christ.
10hellfire01 10 Posted July 10, 2010 I mean there's gotta be someway to access the game's settings via a .txt file, like in other games such as Call of duty. And you could edit there, but finding it is something else. If you're an Nvidia user, which 1 of you guys must be, you can also use the Nvidia Control Panal to force Vsync on or off. Other than that download a driver tool for ATI graphics cards like the ATI tray thingy like BOTA:

Leopardi 0 Posted July 11, 2010 turn off triple buffering... then its jumping back and forth between 60 30 15. The input lag it causes on non-120Hz gaming displays is the worst thing about it, though.
Leopardi 0 Posted July 13, 2010 I can't even force it off with ATT now... that option would be really needed BIS.
Iroquois Pliskin 0 Posted July 14, 2010 turn off triple buffering... Triple buffering is for OpenGL @ ATI. Of course, Nvidia doesn't have the above-mentioned problem(s), since you can force Vsync off via the control panel in practically any game.
Flash Thunder 10 Posted July 14, 2010 Ive tested this myself on multiple computers I dont see any difference when Vsynch is enabled I dont get any screen tearing at all but no performance boost or stability improvement.

You won't get any screen tearing if the FPS is below your refresh rate. VSync is for those who get an FPS higher than their screen refresh rate. Most LCD refresh rates are 59Hz or 60Hz. Your FPS was probably below your refresh rate, so you would not have noticed any screen tearing.

Nicholas 5 Posted July 16, 2010 there is tearing even when below refresh rate. But 120Hz displays eliminate tearing practically completely. Yeah, that's because it is twice the refresh rate of 60Hz displays. Your probably never going to see screen tearing on a 120Hz display unless your getting extremely high FPS. maddogx 13 Posted July 16, 2010 I agree with the OP, vsync needs to be an option in the game. Furthermore, I think it should default to OFF. :)
bono_lv 10 Posted July 16, 2010 I agree with the OP, vsync needs to be an option in the game. Furthermore, I think it should default to OFF. :) Agree. I bet most Arma players run game lower than 60fps average anyway. And those who are lucky to get more fps and/or can't accept tearing effect could enable v-sync. Everybody wins. -=seany=- 5 Posted July 16, 2010 Like I said earlier, I get very noticeable tearing with Vsync off, and my fps are always lower than my refresh rate (120hz monitor).

So you get 90 FPS average and cry about screen tearing while the rest of the community has to enjoy mouse lag whenever they use optics? ROFL.---------- Post added at 12:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:37 PM ---------- This. Read this post again, seany. Uhh, where did I say I got 90fps average? less than 120fps could mean 10fps.... All I was pointing out was that. 1. vsync on or off never has any affect, good or bad on my FPS 2. vsync on or off never has any affect on the input lag (which I too experience...) 3. Vsync off causes screen tearing for me at my average fps of 40. I was always under the impression that you can have vsync off and not get tearing as long as your FPS stays below your refresh rate, but with this game I get tearing no matter what my frame rate. Which is odd. Add a vsync option....why not. I just think it wont make any difference. Default forced on is the best option.
