OA Controls, Crouch/Prone Toggle

Recommended Posts

Allright, either I am blind or for some reason BI removed the Toggle crouch and prone options in OA. Whyyyyyyyy???? I hate using up three bindings when it can be done with two. Especially in a game where you need to bind a zillion things.

Second, if the above is correct, is there any way to customize controls even further using a word editor or something... There are some things that I am also unable to do using the ingame interface such as using say Left CTRL + Mouse wheel up/down to zero in sights.

Please help, as I am a fanatic when it comes to using personal custom controls and want to play the game very much but will not do so until I got my keys all figured out...

Thanks!!!!

Use :Crouch, Stand up and Go prone. I have Crouch and Stand up on the same key and Go prone will stand if hit when already prone. That way only two keys required.

If you try to assign Stand up and Prone on the same key it conflicts with Crouch and Stand up.

Well... I feel stupid :)

I think in Arma2 they had those controls named "Toggle Crouch" and "Toggle Prone" and when I didn't see those I panicked.

In any way, thank you very much Greez, much appreciated.

What he linked is the same thing. Basically the "Up" key is apparently a toggle for crouch. Go figure :-p

Lol really? I guess I will have to rebind them later when home from work.

Will it go straight from prone to crouch if hit though? Currently the set up I have I can go prone from crouch or prone to crouch or straight to stand etc from either.

Could all be done from one button anyway really, using the hold and double tap functions.

Yeah, the toggle keys for crouching and prone are not named appropriately. Took me a while to figure out aswell. :)

Maybe someone should create a CIT ticket for this issue. It certainly isn't very noob friendly at the moment.

Yes you can, I just tested. You can go from any position into the other two using those two bindings. Awesome! And I was getting upset. Now I just need to figure out what to bind the Zero In/Out to.... hmmmm

If you use TrackIR / FreeTrack / FaceTrackNoIR I would suggest unbinding the Alt key ("free look" by default) and using it in key combos with:

Q W E R

A S D F

Y X C V

^^ as they are easily reachable with one hand. I personally use Alt+V to change optics modes and Alt+E / Alt+D to zoom in and out, respectively. Alt+2xS (double tap S) is my "get out" combo and Alt+2xW is "eject", so I don't have to scroll through the menu to exit a vehicle. Helps a lot. :)

As I am starting to realize, my usual binding habits are really horrible for Arma. Most of them I carried over from Americas Army and other FPS. My Left CTRL is crouch, my Left ALT and Windows buttons and Lean Right/Left, and my Shift is Temp Walk/Run. That leaves me with no keys that I can use for alternates like you mentioned :(

Although.. I think I noticed that you can use any key for that role.. like say V+E, and V+D as long as V is not taken? Am I right? Gonna check it out.

Yeah, as long as V isn't already bound, that should work fine. :)

Well I guess there is no way to bind a button to alternate mouse wheel up/down, which would've been perfect. I'll use TAB+E/D for zoom. Thanks for the suggestions and answers.

Ha, I tried the same thing. Too bad it doesn't work. :D

Keyboard+Mouse combos generally don't seem to be bindable.

Would be cool though!

Same as Keyboard + Gamepad or Gamepad + Gamepad bindings :notify:

would be great if we could have three button functionality, EG. x=stand, 2*x=crouch and 3*x=prone.

V is by default the "step-over-fence" move.

It took me quite a while to get my ArmA2 mapping for my 9-Button mouse (Logitech G5-Refresh) running again. As ArmA2/OA is apparently only able to recognise three or four standard mouse buttons I use the Logitech software to map the others to some remote keys (Insert, Delete, ...) and map functions like Toggle Weapon modes, Optics, Zoom In/Out to those.

Theres a 3*x functionality? Wow, nice to know. Although I wouldn't use this system as I like the toggle better.

I was wondering if theres a guide to all those crazy keybindings. I tried searching the forums but couldn't find anything relative. Stuff like Evasive Forward, and Bulldozer??? If anyone knows any posts or sites describing them in detail I would greatly appreciate a link.

My step over is Space*2 Muahahaaha.

P.S. ARROWHEAD IS SICK!!! So far I love it, and much better experience than my first time with Arma 2. Good Job BI!

While were on this subject...

Is there a way to quickly transfer the control setup for ArmA2 to OA? Doing this from scratch again is a pain.

Thanks

Is there anyway to double tap W to stand up/sprint from crouch like in ARMA 1? Or was the deemed a little too gamey and removed?

Guys, dunno if someone missed this: try using UP key. That way you can stand up and crouch with just 1 key.

@Zad Fnark: open your old arma2.profile and your new arma2oa.profile in 2 editor windows and copy&paste them over. some new keys are only in the oa.profile so watch out.

That method works fine.

Thanks. I saw the question was also asked the same time by someone else. I wasn't familiar with the .profile file and didn't see it while browsing, but I have something to search for now.

odd, my guy refuses to do it, even on default controls.

It is not mapped by default, map 'evasive forward' to 2xW and it will do exactly that(from prone, up and sprinting in one fluid*ish* movement)/ same as in ArmA1. Ignore the indicated conflict.

Not to sound dumb or anything, but where do these profile files live. I'm getting no joy on the searches.

Thanks

Nevermind.

The file is *.arma2profile

I was being too literal in my search.
