jakerod 254 Posted May 17, 2010 Steam Website There is an image on the right hand side of the screen to get Portal for Free. Lucky me. I have been wanting to buy this game for the past few months. My patience finally paid off... for once.
maturin 12 Posted May 17, 2010 This game is sublime.
Zipper5 74 Posted May 17, 2010 They also reveal Portal 2 in that trailer. :D

Tonci87 163 Posted May 17, 2010 is it really that good?
Zipper5 74 Posted May 17, 2010 Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssssss. It's his favorite game of all time, actually (if you understand the reference). But dude, it's free damnit. Just try it and see what you think, and if you don't like it it's not like you'll be out of hard earned cash. ;)
dmarkwick 261 Posted May 17, 2010 is it really that good? I would describe Portal as a perfectly formed game. Not many of them about, in fact I would say only one :)
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted May 17, 2010 I wouldn't call Portal a perfect game. It has little replay value for me, and I haven't even touched it since I played through it the first time. Also, I hate all the Portal fanboys who are always making exessive Portal references that aren't even funny or clever. It's not a bad game (I might even say it's a great game), but I think it's highly overrated.
Zipper5 74 Posted May 17, 2010 I agree that it doesn't have much replay value outside of custom map maps. However, I think the story was funny in parts (I mean, GLaDOS, and cake... Come on!) and the gameplay was unique. So even if it does lose it's appeal after the first time you play it, that first time is always a helluva lot of fun. :D Still, it is free, and you should seriously not miss such an opportunity to have a short-but-sweet SP experience. Daddl 10 Posted May 17, 2010 The one reason I bought The Orange Box for - and the only game that I actually played from the Half-Life 2 collection. Worth every cent at the time, and for those who have up to now missed the chance to play the game: there's no excuse anymore. Just download and enjoy! Arma-2-Guru 55 Posted May 17, 2010 I didn't like Portal, but then again. I don't really like puzzle games, prefer games like erm... I don't know, ArmA II?

I played portal on a friends comp, and actually finished the game in like 2 hours... real disappointing from my point of view but good game. very nice original concept. but man, best game evar? no way. so many other more deserving games take that title the humor? i didnt realize it was suppose to be funny until later when i read it on the net. and fuck that retarded cake thing. goddamn. ahm, anyway since its on source engine im guessing there are a bunch of custom maps available for DL, so that should extend the game quite a bit beyond the main game. dmarkwick 261 Posted May 17, 2010 I didn't mean to say it was a perfect game, I said it was a perfectly formed game, it was short, high quality, intelligent, amusing, fascinating and compelling. I couldn't stop playing it 'till I'd finished it. Then I went back and did my favourite levels again.
Zipper5 74 Posted May 17, 2010 And what's so retarded about the cake? :( It's Valve's sense of humor, I think. They're not afraid to not take themselves seriously.
That guy 10 Posted May 17, 2010 (edited) alot. everything. it in its self is kinda lame and pointless. but... but then the fan boys got thier grubby mitts on it... need i say more? i think the game would have benefited if they left out the "story" element. its damn entertaining to jump through holes, off cliffs and defy gravity and such. thats what is great about portal the "story" bit just seems unnecessary. they dont give you any info as to who you are, where you are, why you are they, and why you should care. on top of that throw in a robot voice that sounds like an arma AI on 3 flavors of crack that makes even less sence. edit: when you think about it the game is better suited to be a horror title. you see the panicked and desperate scribbling on the walls, witnessing the slow decay of sanity and the untimely end to those that preceded you, and the AI is kinda like system shock... you know, maybe i was wrong about it. i should play it again some day and pretend its a horror game :p Edited May 17, 2010 by That guy
GRS 10 Posted May 17, 2010 This is one game that I'm glad is short. Perhaps it could have been a little longer, but honestly, it would overstay its welcome if it was long. It was funny, not hilarious, but humorous. Overall I really liked it but its short lived.
jakerod 254 Posted May 17, 2010 I'm enjoying it so far. I'm presently stuck on a room so that is the only reason I stopped playing. Can't figure the damn thing out. I'm definitly going to buy the sequel for the Xbox360. Mostly for the cooperative mode. That has got to be fun.
Alex72 1 Posted May 17, 2010 I liked it too, and i couldnt care less about the things around the game. It was entertaining. Definatelly download if you havent tried it.
sparks50 0 Posted May 17, 2010 Id still recommend buying orange box for TF2 and the complete hl2 package. Good value.
mr burns 132 Posted May 17, 2010 I absolutely loved Portal. Some may know me as the #1 steam hater, but when i read that portal is going freeware i didn´t hesitate, and in retrospective i don´t regret having installed it for some hours of real good fun! Binkowski 26 Posted May 18, 2010 I think this is a triumph. And they are making a note here huge success. It's hard to overstate their satisfaction.

Making a story keeps you interested.

Zipper5 74 Posted May 18, 2010 (edited) P9R4rsWNk6s It's essentially what GLaDOS is enticing you with to complete these stupid tasks she makes you do. Again, Valve's sense of humor. Edited May 18, 2010 by Zipper5
