RKSL - British Army Lynx AH Pack for ArmA2 Released

Recommended Posts

Anyway, a new update should be out in the next 7-10 days fro both the Lynx and the Puma. I've been a bit busy travelling with work the last 3 minths to do much modding but now i have some free time it should all be fixed.

Very good to hear, eagerly awaiting an update. :)

I tried to get this into a clan today, but it's failing on the damage! We attempted a touch and go, leading to an explosion? It seems like the chopper takes damage very easily.

That will probably be the game engine to blame, not the aircraft.

That's probably not at all unrealistic from what i'm told by real Lynx aircrew. :D

  1. One thing you have to remember is that the game engine does not allow helicopters to roll even if they have wheels modelled. You try it and you will take damage no matter what. If you are below 80kph and are descending at a shallow angle (<2 degrees probably) you can get away with it sometimes. Outside of the limits and its almost definite.
  2. This was the first of the new generation of our new "Hard to fly well-need to practice to master" aircraft. A lot of people are sick of poor pilots (im not saying you are one), when i ran a poll 70.71% of people wanted a new and challenging aircraft with limits that they had to learn and master. Being a bit "fragile" is one of them, oddly enough its not something i need to build in it just happened that way and it proved popular :P

IMPORTANT NOTE: For those expecting flight model changes in the next update. Don't hold your breath. I've trimmed the pitch rate slightly but the overall handing remains the same. Real, Actual honest to goodness British Army and Royal Navy Lynx aircrew helped make this addon and they approved it. You wanted realism, in ArmA2 this is a close to a Lynx as it gets.

Thank you for a good reply. I've been playing about with it a lot more and it's fairly resistant to gunfire etc. The landings as you say require a new approach, which I was able to happily do on the AH9 (with the suspension wheels), the skid plate requires a little more finesse

Gazelle - None at all. I have thought about it but its not really that useful in game. Even for some of the other OPFOR projects we have. There always seems to be a more interesting alternative airframe.

BN-2 Islander - Maybe, I can only really see the Islander being useful in the Surveillance role. If someone can make a good enough case for making one without the scripting I might consider it.

But for a surveillance version as per the British Army Air Corps, that would depend on UNN having the time to sort out our UAV/Turrets on planes system. Recently both of us have been unbelievably busy in real life. We've just not had the time to develop all the new scripting we would like. So priorities have changed.

Wessex - Yeah, I still want to put one in game. I do have a pretty reasonable model already but for various reasons I've never managed to get it finished. I may change that but it wont be in UK colours, probably something more "African" maybe.

Ah, yeas the AH7's geo Lod on the public version does intrude a bit on the land contact points. That has changed on the internal builds.

Will they be made public? I did notice landing on skids made my helicopter almost tip over on it's side, hopefully this will be fixed on next release! Once that's done it will be perfect.

Yes, they will be in the next public update. Just to explain the Public vs Private thing:

We test internally these get a "I" suffix. External testing is done by DAR-V (Drunk And Reckless-Veterans - although the explanation changes depending on who tells you) a group run by some old friends of mine. They get "E" suffix. Then we release to public when all is approved.

Here's the current change log:

Version: Date: Notes:

BETA2.09I 05-03-10 Final Beta - Pre-release testing

BETA2.08E 27-02-10 ArmA 2 External Beta - Texture changes

BETA2.07I 20-02-10 ArmA 2 Internal Build - Reverted to 2.04 but with texture changes

BETA2.06E 11-02-10 ArmA 2 External Beta - Idiot Flight model mode testbed (REJECTED)

BETA2.05I 11-02-10 ArmA 2 Internal Beta - Idiot Flight model mode testbed

BETA2.04E 11-02-10 ArmA 2 External Beta - AH7 Geo Changes

BETA2.03E 29-01-10 ArmA 2 External Beta - Pitch Trim (AAC)

BETA2.02E 14-01-10 ArmA 2 External Beta Testing version

BETA2.01I 14-01-10 ArmA 2 Fixed Public Release

REL 2.00 24-12-09 ArmA 2 Public Release

BETA1.9I 28-09-09 ArmA 2 Internal Flight Model Testing

BETA1.8I 28-09-09 ArmA 2 Internal Flight Model Testing

Rel 1.5E 11-06-09 ArmA 2 External Beta Testing version

Rel 1.4E 21-04-09 ArmA 2 External Private version

BETA1.3I 05-03-09 Internal Beta Testing version

BETA1.2I 11-02-09 Internal Testing version

BETA1.0 25-12-08 First Release

After this release, this phase of models will end. For various reasons I've already begun remaking the Merlin and puma models. The new ones will be slightly higher quality, be better optimised for ArmA2's engine and will have some new functionality. The new lynx in particular will become the basis for 9 variants including the Lynx Wildcat and the AH9A. While the New Puma model allows me to make several other variation on the AS330/225 airframe more easily.

Video below of some of the moves this baby can pull

Sorry if it's not great, just needed to showcase a few things to other people. I haven't been able to put the Joystick down Rock! You've ruined my life.

The wheels make the Lynx look so ugly :(

Only the AH9 has wheels, the rest of the pack features AH7 Lynx which have skid plates.

Another shorter, but higher resolution video -

Another great helo from RKSL! Is it normal to not hear any engine noise when in 1st person view inside the helo? I get the same thing with the RKSL Pumas as well but not the Chinook?
