dismemberment,carbonized bodies and dusk

Recommended Posts

i miss them....i think it s easy to add these effects, maybe with an option to set them on\off.i really miss the dusk too...i mean after some explosions, especially in cities,it should rise up an huge amount of dusk and smoke that obscure the sun....

what you mean??

"Dusk" is the beginning of darkness in the evening. Generally not caused by explosions. Surely you mean "dust".

And no, implementing dismemberment isn't easy. I won't go into the pros and cons of dismemberment because there have already been way too many discussions on it.

A search of the Arma2 suggestions forum from the last 3 months turned up this and this thread. Searching for "gore" gets you a couple more.

As for pros and cons, they really have been discussed to death, and most threads get locked because opinions on the topic seem to be very strong.

Biggest con is - It's useless and would probably lag servers.

This thread should really get locked.

They say lock this thread as there is so much discussions already about this. Usually threads that are started that already exist gets locked. Did you think you are the first one to talk about this? :)

FFS, this suggestion pops up every week.

And no, I am very doubtful BIS is going to implement proper gore, due to the way ratings work.

Seems to me that for dismemberment to work you have to create a 3d model of the solider over again and give it breaking points where limb etc can be detached when hit there. 3D models dont just come apart unless modeled to do so. This topic can actually be traced back to why we dont have enterable buildings and buildings with windows that are simulated and not actually see through. The engine simply cannot handle this sort of GFX complexity without killing framrates.

Then you would have to have some sort of hit point system that would say whether or not the round that just hit you will wound you or dismember you. We all know how well BIS utilizes CPU usage **cough** so I would imagine this would be extra overhead that isn’t necessary on an engine that is already struggling with what the game currently has. Either way your looking at more work then you think.

I know Operation Flashpoint:DR has a dismemberment system so when the demo comes out give that a try if that is what you’re looking for. I personally feel Arma 2 should have a system like this because it would make the game more immersive. You have a dismember soldier still alive and you have to dress his wounds and evacuate him so your new priority is to get out alive.

Means that the first aid animation already in the game is a joke I wouldn’t expect anything like this out of BIS. Although it could be modded so search armaholic etc and see what you can find.

As for the wannabe moderators, every post i go in there is atleast 3 or 4 of you who start off posting crap that is none related to the question and performing your own type of punishment/sarcastic comments to boot. Although I agree some of these topics become repetive but thats the nature of the beast and doesnt make the poster deserve sarcasim or punishment.

Nah you'd just need a torso, head, 2 arms & 2 legs, and swap the ingame corpse for a selection of body parts. Use the attachTo command to randomly attach arms legs etc to the torso, so you get different looks. Also randomise the angle those limbs are attached, and no corpse need ever look like another :)

For MP purposes, I suggest that, as a minimum, torso positions are synchronised across clients. I think the gaming world can cope with disparate arms & legs etc in different positions across clients :)

Not that I'm too interested in gibs or dismemberment, but I think it's a viable solution.

^^ 100% Agree.

Dismemberment is moddable of course, as SLX has shown and it would definitely be cool for a zombie mod.

I wouldn't have complained if they had implemented dismemberment in Arma2, but I don't really see much of a point in asking for it now. The chances that BIS will add any kind of additional gore to the game are practically zero now, so the discussion is purely academic.

Why is it that everyone who has an idea seems to think that it would be easy to implement?
