Thehamster 0 Posted March 17, 2002 Mine was in the demo when I killed my first Russian in the Iron site view mode. My second big thing was when I took out a truck with a LAW from the hill side coming in to the town just seeing that rocket streak down the hill followed by me muttering this game is fucking awesome. Cloney 0 Posted March 18, 2002 I have to say that the thing that made my jaw drop was the conversations that the soldiers were having and how incredibly real they looked. I also must comment on the feeling of helplessness when you first saw those T-72s rolling down the road towards you. Man the Demo was awesome I also liked the soldiers taking jabs at eachother in the 1985 campaign! Don't be a meathead Kozlowski! You stink Fowley! Antichrist 0 Posted March 18, 2002 Whole Ambush mission was f**king awesome Still play it at least once a week And still waiting for the next mission They promised it in May, still no sign of it
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted March 18, 2002 I loved the demo. first time I played it, we had taken the town, but were at half strength. then the armor started rolling in, and we beat feet towards the evac point. I could hear the machine gun ripping over my head, and then the guy running in front of me got hit by a main gun round, and I freaked out. man, I was so happy when I got to the reeds, and I hunkered down in there, and when the chopper came, I thought it was all over. then, the chopper got shot down . I just wish they hadnt ended it in the cliff hanger, but that was one of the main reasons I bought the game
Mister Frag 0 Posted March 18, 2002 The thing that got me the first time I played the demo was the attack on the small village that the Russians were holding. I had a hard time staying with the rest of the squad, and got separated. I could see a number of enemy soldiers, and decided to hide in a bush. From that position, I couldn't see very well, but I could still hear. Then I noticed a new noise: an engine, and something squealing, but I couldn't figure out what it was. It kept getting louder and louder, but I couldn't tell where it was coming from, and was spinning around in my bush to see if I could spot something. All of a sudden, I saw a tank come right at me, no more than 50 meters away, kicking up a dust cloud behind it. It passed right next to me, and actually took out the bush to one side, exposing me in my hiding spot. I nearly creamed my pants...
shataan 1 Posted March 18, 2002 the motion capture. And I as well learned that for every good thing done, a Developer also screws up royally in other areas.
canukausiuka 1 Posted March 18, 2002 My first co-op mission. I was (and still am for the most part ) a complete noob for online gaming, but I had played the single-player missions enough to have a good idea what we were doing. I don't remember what mission it was, but the four of us inserted by helicopter to the mainland, in the dark, then snuck towards an enemy base. I crawled to the left, not much cover, but a good field of fire, my leader crawled up the middle, and the 2 others crawled up the right along the wall. We opened fire on the enemy there, but it didn't take long before we all heard the crack of someone's AK, and our leader, out in the open, die. We kept fighting, and managed to clear the rest of the base, but then had to go to the next base. I remember we all stopped at where our leader had been hit and saluted, then I did the 'hide body' command, and we took off in the Blackhawk to the next objective. During the flight, I became disoriented, and thought that the chopper was about to crash, so I ejected alone. My parachute opens, and I see the chopper, quite fine, flying away, and leaving me in the middle of a forest in the middle of the night. Fortunately, they stopped only about 500m away to get some more ammo, so I caught up. We decided that it would probably be better to take the Humvees to the next objective, so we loaded up, my 2 squadmates into the front, and me following. We rode along the road, farily quickly, and I couldn't keep up. But here we are driving along in the night, and I suddenly catch up to them. I stop, because they are, and then the chat comes up with my squadmate informing me that he's dead. I don't hear from the other guy, so I get out and go look. He crashed head-on into a powerline pole, knocking it right over and killing both of them (apparently he was looking at his map, not the road... good lesson about attentiveness while driving...). So there I was left alone, because my leader tried to take on a base from the open and my other squadmates crashed their car... I couldn't help but laugh about how pitiful it was that we wound up this beat up so early, but when we tried to restart the mission the game messed up As for single player, I was impressed as soon as I found out that the AI wasn't completely stupid. I went into the 'Steal the Car' mission, and I probably tried 5 times before I managed to get more than 1 kill before some Commie shot the heck out of me. Being surrounded by other grunts in a desperate attempt to destroy some armor in one of the campaign missions was impressive as well. And the first time my legs got shot out from under me, and when I finally managed to fly the chopper w/o crashing, and using an enemy T-80 to blow the heck out of their base (and one civilian fuel depot... oops!, and there's that awesome feeling when I gained command of a squad myself (even though I was a much better grunt than officer). Actually, save for a few irks, I don't know what isn't amazing about this game.
whisperFFW06 0 Posted March 18, 2002 One coop mission, by night, attacking a russian base. We had cleared a little bit the area, and were turning around the camp's walls to the gates. At 10 m from the gates, each one covering the others (we had some AI with us), we were ready for a close knife-style combat, when suddenly, an AI to my right shout "Spetsnaz, 2 O'clock!" (the opposite direction from the gate), and BANG BANG BANG, Spetz open fire. I barely have time to dive to the ground, hearing bullets killing the AI soldier (horrible sound), then my leader open fire with his M60, everybody open fire, but I don't know where are the spetz. I see one, target, fire... That was the last. My character announce "Oh no, 3 is down!", and I see my sight trembling. Hey! Have I been hurt? Then I watch my hand on the mouse (the real hand )...I was trembling . 2 of our guys had died there. 30 sec passed. We reach the gates (with many mutterings "My God! F..... Spetz!"), then suddenly, our sniper (covering us from 60 m away) takes 2 shots, and dies! 2 sniper rifle shots. There's a Dragunov guy hunting in the area. We reach our sniper corpse, carefully scanning the zone. Nobody in sight. We take 5 entire minutes to ensure the area is safe, then go back to the base and blow up the trucks inside. 2nd step, we have to attack an outpost, we get out of the base in the direction of our target. I come above the corpse of AI soldiers killed by the spetz, but I don't notice another corpse in the middle of the dead (NVG on). I pass by, and two very loud BANGS make me jump on my chair! One bullet reach me, once more I dive, once more I hear my leader's M60, taktaktaktaktak. "Sniper is history". The guy was hiding amongst corpse! Incredible! And my leader saved my butt for the second time of the day. There comes my wife, who touches my shoulders : - Hey, everything's fine? - Yeah! Why? - You just shouted! ??!! I watch the screen, and there my jaw drop . The first game which make me trembling, screaming, and scaring my wife.
nordin dk 0 Posted March 18, 2002 The single player mission, where you blow up a fuel station at night, alone as a co-op. The mood, the excitement, the thrill of planting the satchels, crawling for cover, waiting for trucks, blowing up everything and then hauling ass in the night with bmp and infantry looking for me. The creeping horror as the sun rose, that I would not be able to hide so well. The owls around me, the stars in the sky, the guards partrolling 3 feet away. That was my best experience in the beginning I think. My heart was beating like a maniac, I was totally cramped up, my hands were shaking...talk about immersion! ___ Other: First time watching a guy get shot, with a secacctime 0.1 trigger... Do it if you haven't already First time seeing the ravine/bay on Malden + First time seeing the Malden Mountain in a chopper coming out of the mist at dawn P.S. The Werewolf is a..... JOKE!!!! Tovarish 0 Posted March 18, 2002 The first time I saw someone attach a mortar round to an M-16 in a coop game .
JAP 2 Posted March 18, 2002 Well almost everything is great about this game ( maybe tweaking the netcode a little bit ) But OFP is just not like ANY other game even with the bugs it s a league of its own. But the thing i like best is in missions where there is air resistance you hear the chopper long upfront and keep wondering where/when the hell he s gonna show up ... that is just to die for, especially with the hinds, sends chills all over my back then. Also every co-op ( with good players ) experience i ever had
Tovarish 0 Posted March 18, 2002 in the "Under Orders" mission in Red Hammer, the one where your Spetz Natz team ends up slaughtering civilians, my teamate with the RPG disabled the M113 but didn't destroy it (The threads were black). I decided to try it anyway and to my surprize it still moved!! But the rest of my team refused to get in because apparently they sensed the thing was so shot up it could blow at any minute . So I said "Fuck them they can walk if they want" and started driving it towards the village...as I was driving I realized a few things: 1. The brakes didn't work at all 2. I could only turn while moving forwards 3. with the threads damaged I could not go uphill at all. This really impressed me with how vehicle damage was simulated. The M113 was still useful, but in a very limited way (I managed to get that nasty NATO squad patroling the forest)
SpaceAlex 0 Posted March 18, 2002 The thing that made me jaw drop was OFP graphic (sunrise, shadows...), war feeling, open terrain, ability to use all vehicles, sounds likes frogs in the bushes, birds, wind, sea sound, everything.

Guest Posted March 18, 2002 The flashpoint trailer really blew me away. Especially (and it still does) the way the tanks move. Bloody cool BIS!
InRange 1 Posted March 18, 2002 Yeah, the tanks look really great. The clouds of dust, the exhaust fumes, realistic suspension...I ran for my life the first time I saw them. I thought my character was having a heart attack
Yakata 0 Posted March 18, 2002 My first Co-op was the best I was playing with my uncle and my cousin (who were better than me, i wonder now) on the mission where u have to save a village from tanks and infantry offensive. My uncle grabbed a sniper rifle and disappeared somewhere, and me and my cousin grabbed and mined the road. we head back into town and i lie down with my M-16. I hear a rumbling, then BOOM! and i see a tank fly up into the air over the top of a house infront of me. my jaw dropps open. turns out my cousin though it would be funny to quadriple mine the road. cool! Satchel 0 Posted March 18, 2002 Couple of things: - graphics (3D models). As i first saw them in a Gamestar mag preview a long long time back, the models where looking astonishing realistic for a game that was introduced as a shooter, till the preview i only knew this accuratesse from dedicated simulation games. - The trailers, especially the one showing a slow motion scene of an infantry fight. - The demo. Usually i play a demo once and wait for the full version, but the OFP demo i played whenever i had time to. - The final. Athmosphere and all, although there are many things that can be improved to make it more "realistic" and more appealing in regards to the graphics and audio side. Just make a small test mission and place a trigger with "setAccTime" command on slowmo; i did a night battle with this and it´s looking and feeling unbelievable, you really see why this is a great game. Edit: Nearly forgot the huge playgrounds we got with the islands and the freedom of movement...amazing
