archsceptic. 10 Posted July 20, 2009 It gives you seizures? that's strange... it gives me stomach acid from trying to make it run ok on a gaming rig that is too good for the game. I'm thinking of downgrading.
Nazul 10 Posted July 20, 2009 Fits can also be caused by low frequency noises, noises you cant even hear but they vibrate the body as to cause fits. Fluorescent lights can emit this noise, CRT,tv's can do it. Check other things in your room.
.kju 3241 Posted July 20, 2009 Try GDT HDR or the one addon by shole to fix HDR.
KrilionGD 0 Posted July 20, 2009 Being an Eppi myself of some 23 years. It's a urban myth that all eppi's are triggered by light.. I have a very high photo sensitive threshold.. only about 1/3rd of the eppi comminuity is light sensitive. The refresh rate of your screen could cause a seizure for sure, but it's pretty rare. I'd adjust your refresh rate as others have suggested. If you have no history of seizure activity, I'd go see neuro just to be on the safe side of things. @ the person above who said seizure kill people, thats extremely extremely rare.. and even then it is generaly secondary to the epileptic event not casual.. @the ftard that asked if he foamed at the mouth and to utube it.. grow up, step away from the pc and ask daddy if you can have your allowence this week.. Back to the original poster... You'll get a much much better responce and aid in you query by posting on one of these sites. http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/ http://www.epilepsy.com/ great groups of people there and I am sure some of them would be more than willing to offer some actual usable advice... Snowwhite 10 Posted July 20, 2009 Alright lad, first of all disable the Post Processing to elminate that nasty BLUR effect that doesnt add to realism anyway. Next tweak the head bobbing so that it only has a slight effect on your running or disable it alltogether (no head wobbles like that unless your drunk) Keep your distance from the monitor like someone else said and take small brakes every hour (or half hour) to get a soda or something to eat. Pause the game now and then to look at something else, just something to take your mind AND EYES off the screen. I tend to get headaches when using the Post Process (BLUR) so you don't have to be an Epileptic to experience it. Try to relax when playing, I know these sim games are bloody intense and it only works better if you feel like you're in the battlefield but do try to have fun and play at a slow pace (I snipe a lot instead of close combat so it's a lot less hectic) If you already had a seizure then go see a doc no matter if you feel better or not! I cannot do long sessions anymore because of musscle aches but I still enjoy a 1 or 2 hour session with Arma. Take care and dont waste your health on gaming, it's defenetly not worth it in the end (you gain nothing by gaming so rather put more time in sports) Bye m8
Blackhawk 0 Posted July 21, 2009 No point discussing it on a forum, you definitely need to go and see a doctor. I can't stress more, just make sure you sitting at least 3/4 of a metre away from the screen (I tend to sit at least a metre). Make sure you are not tired or you have not had a lot of sleep. Definitely make sure your room is well lit. @Snowwhite, he has already said he has Post Processing disabled along with the headbob turned all the way down. Joseph Troska 0 Posted July 22, 2009 I fixed it!!!!! All I had to do was -force my 22" LG Flatron monitor to display at 4:3 - put the game to 1280x1024 (still looks good) no more motion sickness or seizures! The problem was definitely using widescreen and a 1680x1050 res. Now I can play for hours no problem! :)
tsb247 0 Posted July 22, 2009 The only thing about your story that I have trouble with is that you remember having a siezure. Generally, people do not remember when they have a siezure.

Im starting to feel dizzy/sick almost instantly if that is the case, so make sure to have it at least at the same level as your screen res. Herbal Influence 10 Posted July 22, 2009 Mmm ... should be a bad solution. But ok, if it helps ... Everywhere it is said that TFTs should not be run below their native resolution which should be 1680 x 1050 with a 22''. Hope you are well off, Troska! That's most important. Joseph Troska 0 Posted July 22, 2009 The only thing about your story that I have trouble with is that you remember having a siezure. Generally, people do not remember when they have a siezure. Do some research. There are different kinds of seizures. Grand mal and petty mal. With the latter, the sufferer is almost always conscious of what they are experiencing. My doctor has referred me to a specialist, but says I am showing signs of juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, which is quite mild - loss of concentration/awareness, small involuntary movements, blurry vision etc. No falling down and frothing at the mouth. There are many misconceptions about epilepsy it seems. As far as my 22" goes, there is an option on the Flatron monitor itself to force 4:3 and disable the widescreen, so the display is like a square inside a rectangle. I always use the 100% fillrate. I just finished the Razor Two mission. Soooo good! Took me hours, and after playing non-stop I feel fine. Case closed. :) Thanks for the replies people. mrcash2009 0 Posted July 22, 2009 So we can then say that Arma2 doesn't actually "cause" seizures as the thread title suggests, its combination of the user and screen settings/monitor. Anyway, I would also be revealed to get that sorted, good job.
Indecisi0n 10 Posted July 22, 2009 Reading this thread just gave me a seizure.
chlywly 10 Posted July 22, 2009 Sorry to hear that, I have no vertigo in games, well VERY rarely... must be your refresh rate.
Buzz 0 Posted August 1, 2009 Put the game down, get plenty of rest, fluids and food, taking care of yourself is a reality Arma 2 is not; it's just a game!!!
nyran125 10 Posted August 1, 2009 first of all a 22' inch screen right up close to your face for long periods of time is never a good thing. Secondly I reckon its that Blurriness thats there in Arma 2, when you start to become tired in-game with heavy breathing, when your running, the camera(first person perspective is trying to simulate a camera in a cop drama NOT a real person) the blurriness is very over exaggerated in Arma 2, they are trying to simulate a very realistic camera bob NOT a real head bob to give you the feeling that you are that news cameraman or reality TV cameraman or film audience thats running after the police while the police is hunting down the criminal to get a good story, its very unrealistic in reality, however its very realistic as a camera bob to make you feel like your in a cop drama or watching an action movie. thats what will be giving you the motion sickness. I have a friend that cant play new or recent games anymore that try and simulate a movie camera perspective it makes him have epileptic fits.:(:(:(
Camdean55 10 Posted August 4, 2009 My friend has a problem with games that sway, I thought he was winding me up at first, but it makes sense if you react to it in real life, the game will have the same result. I don't think he has had any seizures though. Be careful dude, it could end up serious.
InFireBaptize 0 Posted August 4, 2009 I fail to understand why this topic was started. If the OP was suffering seizures whilst playing computer games, specifically ARMA2, then a reasonable amount of intelligence would have suggested a complete stop to playing said game and urgent consultation with a doctor or hospital. At least this is the way I would deal with it. Logging onto the games official site and starting a discussion about it would be the very last thing that would occur to me. People are strange. :j: Planck this game should have been for players of age 30 and older.
