Bitter Chill-help!!

Recommended Posts

I'm driving my humvee south and always get blown up. Is there a safe route to take or should I just time compress and wait for 5:00?

I did the same and I've come to the conclusion there is a cheap trigger field of death which is pretty lame. I might be mistaken but I had tons of NAPA following me for some reason i could tell my squad to disembark and go forward, but the second i got out the car i was suddenly under fire from tons of sniper shots. Everytime I progressed forward the car got rocketed or i got sniped to pieces and strangely enough the shots only ever seemed to choose me as their target and my squad was never fired on unless i got out.

I got past it by restarting and just getting in the chopper.

When I called the Chopper it got shot down. Where'd you call it in at?

No, what I meant is getting shot down in the chopper as far as I can tell is the only way. Unless you can find help in Sobor I guess.

Found out the problem, if you wait at the FOB, NAPA guys find you and basically procede the mission. SPOILER: You are never meant to get to the southern city. Basically you get the decision to either go find the CDF or NAPA for further help. This misison seams to be the fork in the road of the campaign.

Indeed. Just one tip:

Spoiler:

Go with NAPA. Its the most easiest way. However there is only one hard part in the mission. When the small red car stops... First lay still then get the h... out of there ;)

When does this activate for you? Whenever I get in the red car, he just keeps driving... eventually stopping at some church, he gets out of the car and just stands there doing nothing. Because the script prevents me from gettingout of the car, I'm stuck in there.

Sick mission..

Hmmz that's strange. When I enter the car, he will drive a few meters then the screens turns black. Then it comes back again and you will approach Novy Sobor. Then about 500meters in front of Novy Sobor he stops, saying something about an control point, after that he just orders me to go out. And then you can choose to what side you are going... CDF or NAPA.

After seeing the roadblock I just walked to a hill near Gorka and saw enemy tanks and stuff, then I went near Novy Sobor and there was the same thing with enemy troops. Then I got to choose my side and went to NAPA hideout.

Kinda sucks really. I spent 20 minutes driving cross country to avoid contacts, about 1.5km from Electrowossname the fuel ran out.

I hit save, then get out of the hummer and start taking sniper rounds. Dead. After the 8th reload and death I give up and come to the forums and find out it's impossible.

I just get the impression the play testing in this campaign was done either by people who designed the missions (and therefore know how they're supposed to work) or by the laziest play testers in the history of playtesting.

Who seriously bug tested this mission?

When you get to the car with your CDF friends you're suppose to get in and the CDF guy will drive you ..........

but the car can only hold 3 team members!!!

I had to force myself into the driver seat and take off with the entire team on board. And even then, when we reached scripted areas, the CDF driver kept talking like he was still driving and inside the car with us.

Assuming we've hit the nail on the head with this being a triggered death to prevent completion, this is literally the most incredible bug I've come across.

I've spent 3 hours today playing through this mission only to be killed dozens of times loading from various saves by a sniper, who apparently doesn't engage my own team when I order them to disembark the humvee, but will take my head off in an instant when I get out.

I came to the conclusion myself it was a bug that was causing a triggered death, as my map/team members failed to identify an enemy. I restarted from Manhattan base and went a different way, at times escorting the Humvee from a savefile after a death and searching the forests/hills with 2 team members, and having a third drive the humvee behind us - only to have myself snipered every time. I then swapped to the team member driving the humvee and found the humvee was being hit with a rocket now whilst the guys on foot were unharmed.

In summary, I think we're right to think it's a triggered death - and I'm ranting because I so badly want to love this game - Arma 1 was a big dissapointment for me after OFP, with the clunky movement, plethora bugs, awful sound and poor performance so I bit my tongue and put all my hope into the "Next Generation Game" Arma 2, only to find a repeat of the Arma 1 deal - £24.99 for an alpha product.

At first, I thought the game was fantastic - beautiful graphics, good performance, significantly improved AI and fantastic sounds plus the usual- believable, and engrossing campaign - I thought Bis had done it right this time - but after a few hours of play time, all the bugs begin to break what I hoped would be an outstanding gaming experience. Manhatten took me the best part of a day to complete only thanks to a forum member posting the map of the camps so I could find the final one, and now this - it's so dissapointing.

What's worse, is I bought a new system just for Arma1 and never even bothered completing it - and I actually have an order ready to go from overclockers UK for a new rig for this game - an order which I won't be going through with now. I guess I'll just have to wait 6 months for a patch/mod that actually makes this game playable. Sorry to rant for 6 paragraphs - I don't know what good I think it will do - I'm just hoping maybe someone from bis will read this and see what damage they are doing to their reputation as I am no doubt not alone here. On the other hand, thanks bis for working so hard on getting the patches out to us - I'm sure everyone here appreciates it as much as I do - I just wish the game was PLAYABLE. Nobody can expect perfection, but functional/playable is a very reasonable request for £25.

You probably mean the NAPA escort. Try the trunk.

Jezuro, I really admire what you guys are trying to do here but can you seriously tell me you tested the "Delaying the Bear" mission and Badlands where AT THE BEGINNING of the mission, your squad CANNOT move. This is not a flame this is a fact. I actually don't blame the mission designer since when played in the editor, its seams fine. I blame whatever beta tester/dev played through the campaign and did not catch or just didn't care about these glaring bugs.

I know you have deadlines and such but to completely avoid these issues until a patch is released and then say "Oh yeah, we were aware of these bugs and now there fixed" is bad business. Just admit that you made a mistake. People are quite forgiving but when you cherry pick easy problems to solve(the truck...) and ignore huge game stopping ones is horrible.

Having said that: you guys designed a wonderful unique game that has insane potential. All these scripts that produce random results is amazing. The graphics are awesome. Immersion is off the hook(when not derailed by bugs). Right now, the campaign is darn near unplayable beginning to end if you don't find workarounds online.

I do love the game but please don't treat us like whiners. I have not seen 1 comments about these campain bugs from a dev. Just a little accountability. You guys lost alot of people with the mess that was ARMA's release. This game is a potential GOTY but to get there, people have to get immersed, which is impossible if you have squad mates with lead boots.

First of all, we're trying to help with problems that players can actually deal with by themselves (the trunk, camo netting etc.) Other problems (= actual bugs) are being fixed. Please try to understand that not all issues posted here are real bugs, Arma II is very demanding and unforgiving sometimes and failing an objective doesn't mean a mission is unplayable.

Delaying the Bear situation, on the other hand, is of course a serious problem and will be fixed ASAP. We're really sorry for this.I really don't want to drag betatesters into discussion, however.

Jezuro you could avoid a lot of grumblings on the forum by listing the known Campaign bugs in a sticky thread. Until I read your post here I had seen no official comment on a bug that has stopped me playing the campaign for several days.

Excellent idea!

PLEASE create a sticky with the curent campaign bugs that are being worked on/fixed for the next patch.

I understand that these missions are complex, but I fail to see how beta testers can miss soooooooooooooooo many glaringly obvious bugs and basically every mission.

I hope you will find the fix soon.

I also posted the problem in the Thread "Delaying the Bear: AI unresponsive".

Ah, what happens with the trunk? When we got there with the guys, there was just a hatchback waiting and a driver and we were told to get inside - nobody mentioned anything about the trunk.

(sorry if my previous post was a bit sensationalist, but we were just sick at that point of all the bugs from the previous missions and then we arrive at this car and not everyone could seemingly get in - literally not finished one mission bug free so far..)

You just have to walk around the car, and you'll get the 'get in' symbol when you're at the rear of the car. Click, and you're crammed into the boot/trunk.

do you guys get taken to the car straight from the fob, perhaps its because i didnt help the priest that it isnt there. If so what do i do now like i say the 2 villages are full of russians and you cant get to the town as its scripted to kill you

Hi, I'm new ...

So far, considering what feedback about the missions I've been reading, I've been in luck. Didn't encounter any showstopper bugs thus far, and always found a way to do something in some way so that I may proceed in the mission.

But now I'm in "Bitter Chill" and... god dammit, I get shot, shot, shot and shot, I die die die die die die over and over over and over again! Just because of that stupid script! There are no enemies! I killed them all, the officer, the snipers, the saboteur, the spetznaz, all the other guys who were marked as enemy soldiers. I am so damn sick of this mission.

At first I tried to get to the point that was marked 9 km away from FOB, so at least I managed to return to FOB once.

But after reading here that this is all good for nothing and that I'm supposed to wait for something to happen at FOB (How the hell should I know this?), I can't get back to it anymore. There is a "Kill-script" circling the entire area, no matter if I approach FOB by car, truck or on-foot, it goes boom and I die! Even though I am surrounded by highly armed friendlies, I still die.

Who designed this piece of crap mission?!

Sorry, I just had to vent! I feel like screaming into a pillow like a little girl right now.

What a shame the game wasnt tested before it was released, as it could ahve been fantastic if only they had tested the scripting.....

When you get back to Manhattan, an ingame cutscene with dying Simmons should kick in. After that the NAPA fighters arrive and you're able to talk to them. During that speech, you're given 2 options; either call Starforce 2-1 or go with NAPA.

If the scenario didn't play like this, it's again something we haven't been able to reproduce a will investigate it further.

I can only advice to try to "Revert" this mission in the campaign menu, something might be wrong with your savegames.
