Raznor09 10 Posted June 12, 2009 maybe there the genome soldiers from MGS, but they werent good enough for good ole snake after watching that, i would of spotted u in a heartbeat, u practically ran right up to them lol slowly thats suppose to be slow lol
mr_centipede 31 Posted June 12, 2009 Saw the vid, you were running. toward them. and close too. remember, they can hear your footsteps. try slow crawl next time. and be more patient. if you have to get there faster, try to use the time accelerator instead. Practice more. obviously what you did in the video didnt work
marcodarco 10 Posted June 12, 2009 maybe there the genome soldiers from MGS, but they werent good enough for good ole snake haha that made me chuckle! ---------- Post added at 03:30 ---------- Previous post was at 03:28 ---------- Saw the vid, you were running. toward them. and close too. remember, they can hear your footsteps. try slow crawl next time. and be more patient. if you have to get there faster, try to use the time accelerator instead.Practice more. obviously what you did in the video didn't work I shall try crawling etc, but honestly I have tried everything, tried going from every angle. they just seem to know exactly where I am and spot me. remember this is supposed to be PITCH black at 01:00am at winter, you aint seeing **** unless you have night vision goggles. Maybe the video didn't really portray the issue well enough, but I know for a fact they spot, shoot and kill me and a matter of seconds.:(
mr_centipede 31 Posted June 12, 2009 you were too close. at pitch dark at night, you can hear the slightest whisper. what are you doing that close anyway? dont ever get too close about crawling, if you didn't notice, there are slow crawl and fast crawl. use slow crawl, in between trees, in small increments. go low and slow... be patient. i could lose patience too, thats why i dont like to play spec ops mission. marcodarco 10 Posted June 12, 2009 I was too close yes, it was just primarily an experiment to test to AI that is why. It would be cool if they went out and searched an area after they heard a noise, rather just instantly know where you are. Splinter cell games do a good job of that I must say. anyway I still feel it could be adjusted
max power 21 Posted June 12, 2009 You ran into their line of sight making all the noise in the world and you are surprised that they detected you? YOu think this behaviour should be adjusted? That's a fairly poor test. Try setting up something that doesn't just check off the box labelled "AI not retarded".
marcodarco 10 Posted June 12, 2009 OK OK, I shall make another Video.. before all the hasty comments arrive.
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted June 12, 2009 If you can't see your own character, I think you're setup is messed up somewhere. I don't have the game yet, but if it's like Arma1, you don't need NVGs to operate in a moon lit night. Notice the trees casting a shadow towards you. Tactically this means your whole front is illuminated by moonlight and very easy to spot. I don't think AI will use this though, but it's always nice to do a stealth mission as realistic as possible in this respect. And, walking? Upright? At that distance? And thinking you're going to get away with it? That's insane :) Read up on Carlos Hathcock if you want to check out some real snipers patience :)
Taconic 0 Posted June 12, 2009 I was too close yes, it was just primarily an experiment to test to AI that is why. It's a poor test.Your complaint is tantamount to complaining that the aircraft stall and fall out of the sky at 50kph. Your're running full tilt at soldiers 20 meters away. Of course they will see you. Try lying prone under a bush and see if they see you. I guarantee the results will be very different. mr_centipede 31 Posted June 12, 2009 On a sidenote, Isn't it great that you could actually get that close? so I think the AI does not have super night vision without NVG. wouldn't you think?
Shadow NX 1 Posted June 12, 2009 Indeed they see good at night but if you are carefully they can even pass you and not notice you laying in the grass next to them if you dont move at all, had that in a SP mission sneaking trough a forrest and suddently i see a AI guy that walked towards me and as stupid as i am i started to shoot when he was a meter before me so i was the target for everyone. Prob is once alerted the Ai seems to scan every corner and if you are dumb enough to stick your head out in the next few mins youre toast... and thats where i often went rambo and clean the whole base ( including lots of save & load )
Nicholas 5 Posted June 12, 2009 They not only can spot you, but they can also hear you. You were kinda running, just crawl or do a slow crouch/walk.

Kimmeh 0 Posted June 12, 2009 You were running, at speed, at night. Even a heavy-metal concert junkie would've heard you. Try to move at walking speed, either crouched or standing, behind them, you should be able to get pretty close. Sneaking up to melee-distance on a moving target is nigh-impossible anyway, especially at night in nature with twigs and leaves everywhere.
llauma 0 Posted June 12, 2009 Here's a small test I just made. I'm in the open grass with an enemy squad passing by. They can't see me even though it's not really dark and they get quite close. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWMEep73aGQ So.. I guess they use their ears to locate you. Comm512 10 Posted June 12, 2009 Very cool. This game is full of advanced features. I cant wait to test it out myself :) I see myself whispering behind my pc to my teammates hoping the AI do not hear me
dmarkwick 261 Posted June 12, 2009 Try lying perfectly still as they walk by you, that would be a better test IMO. If they can see you while you are making NO noise, and you're not right under their feet (try lying down about 10 feet off the path, where they would surely see you during the day), you might have something. odjob 0 Posted June 12, 2009 I belive the moonlight has something to do with it also. i did a test standing about 10 meters infront of an enemy at a moonlit night and he shoot me right away. Next i did the same in night without any moonlight and i couldnt see him without nvg´s and he could not see me, i had to move for him to react and at first he bent forward a bit and looked around but still couldnt see me, but after i moved a bit more he fired in my direction and killed me but it didnt look as he new exactly were i was as he wasnt looking right at me. kridian 33 Posted June 12, 2009 Try the test with using your Directional Mic output in pitch black. I'd be curious.

For thoose who have ArmA II and wan't to test it would be nice to know what AI settings you used in this test (both in X.ArmAProfile and skill slider in editor) and date as well as time of day in editor. I have the feeling that people who experience "uber AI" plays with (to) high AI settings. Maybe some of you are used to high AI settings in OFP/ArmA but that doesn't mean it is a good/balanced setting for ArmA II? However, since I'm still waiting for the 505 release I can be totally wrong! /KC Edited June 12, 2009 by KeyCat
