RadicalAtHeart 11 Posted February 5, 2013 Which laptop to get? http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/319176/msi-gaming-series-ge60-0nd-283nl/specificaties/ http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/322188/lenovo-ideapad-y580-m778amh/specificaties/ Both have i5-3210M and a GTX660M is that enough? I am about to move from home in the weekends and university during the midweek itself. So I only have to move it two times a week. I can't really go more expensive. Unless I sell my desktop i5-2500k and EVGA GTX670 FTW I could get one of around €1300 probably
Leon86 13 Posted February 7, 2013 They're within requirements, wont compare to your desktop of course.
Street 1 Posted February 12, 2013 so i am upgrading my system well actually i am getting a new system... Corsair Vengeance 8GB (4GB x 2), ASUS HD 7970, Force Seriesâ„¢ GS 128GB SATA 3 6Gb/s Solid-State Hard... Now the question is i am planning on going for the i5 3570k but i have reading alot of mix reviews between the i5 3570k and the amd fx-8350.... Can any1 will be able to tell me first hand if the 8350 performs better then the i5 for arma 2? Saw a youtube vid stating it does youtube.com/watch?v=4et7kDGSRfc&list=FLLCB648VKSzWOvbeCoAQR-Q cany any1 confirm or deny this? any info and help would be valued.... kklownboy 43 Posted February 12, 2013 as it stands now, intel~. Not sure about some youtube thang, but its not only about the CPU. The MB and whats usable on it is as big if not more(relative to similar CPu specs..). If your fast at building a rig, most online sites have some 15day return. Just keep it all nice and clean. test it.
kualus 1 Posted February 13, 2013 (edited) The video in question is sloppy and questionable at best: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/183p2x/i_asked_overclockerscoms_matt_bidinger_what_he/ In addition, don't bother with the FX-8350 if you want to overclock, its power consumption and heat production shoot up like a rocket, to the point where you'd be better off getting an i5-3570K, as you could overclock that to get more performance than the FX-8350 overclocked. In addition, you would need a more capable CPU cooler to cool the higher heat of the overclocked FX-8350, thus erasing the savings from going for it over the i5-3570K. domokun 515 Posted February 13, 2013 @street: get the i5-3570k. It overclocks easily to 4.3 with stock cooling, 4.4-4.5 with a little tweaking in the BIOS and an after-market cooler. OC the i5-3570k runs OA really well.
Street 1 Posted February 13, 2013 sounds good thanks for the info.... sad thing is I am from South Africa and the FX-8350 and i5 3570k cpu prices are pretty identical... where the difference lies is the mobo can get an AMD high end mobo at a great cost... CROSSHAIR V FORMULA is a high end mobo priced at a mid range intel, gigabyte and asus Z77X mobo if not even a little less... and i learned its pointless having a fantastic cpu with a mediocre mobo. also seen a lot of reviews where the FX-8350 and i5 3570k are neck in neck for gaming.. intel does dominate cpu applications but for gaming its really not much of a difference.. i would love a i5 3570k but i despise mid range mobo's and the fx-8350 the mobo is far superior considering its a high level mobo. correct me if i am wrong? I only play Arma2 and when it eventually comes out Arma 3...... dont really play anything else and if i do its pretty much older titles where my 7970 is the main benefactor and not the cpu. domokun 515 Posted February 13, 2013 Saffer eh? I was born in the Cape ;) Frankly I've been building gaming rigs for 15 years and there's not a massive difference between mid-range and top-end mobos apart from a few bells and whistles. Any mid-range Z77 board will serve you well (Asus, MSI even Asrock). Is the Gigabyte Z77-D3H expensive in SA? As she's rock solid, easy to setup and offers enough (USB3, decent onboard sound, etc.). With the rand you save on the mobo, treat yourself to the 3570k.
Leon86 13 Posted February 14, 2013 I'd also recommend the 3570K and midrange Z77 motherboard, the highend boards are kind of pointless for almost everybody.
bangtail 0 Posted February 14, 2013 So Nvidia's Titan in 5 days with a single GPU coming very close to the t00fer cards (690/7990). Will be interesting to see what kind of a dent these bad boys can put in ArmA 2. Very pricey but serious single GPU goodness. I'm f**king stoked :D
froggyluv 2136 Posted February 14, 2013 BangTail making E-Peens green with envy everywhere! One can only imagine what sort of superhero Arma 2 getup he has in his BangCave. I'm seeing underground fully furnished 30' 3D screens with Quad Titans nitrogen cooled at absolute zero, closely monitored by a full in-house support team  Seriously, never even heard of Titan and little information to be found. Interim belt holder till 780 later this year?
bangtail 0 Posted February 14, 2013 Don't like 3D and I am my own support team ;) But seriously, Titan has been a closely guarded secret but it sounds like a MFing beast. A single GPU that is very close to the performance of dual GPU cards is a major breakthrough and all this 6 months before AMD's 8xxx series and Nvidia's 7xx series. Many people are saying that the 7xx series will have trouble outdoing the Titan. At any rate, I'm just happy we have some new GPU tech to play around with. It's been a year since the 7970/680 - how time flies ;)
kualus 1 Posted February 14, 2013 Oh yeah, Titan looks amazing. Imagine 4 of those in SLI, 4K resolution gaming would be effortless.

SharkFlyinHigh 1 Posted February 15, 2013 Alright, I was suppose to build my first rig but money issues got in the way. The wife wants a new laptop for school but I talked her into getting a PC. Due to financial limits i'm forced to go the cheapest route. I stumbled upon these on ebay and wanted some suggestions on which to get or if I should even order from ebay. The goal is to get a PC she could use for school, but I could also play games. (Arma 2, Battlefield 3) Thanks! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Gaming-PC-WIFI-Enabled-BUILT-FOR-GAMING-/290860142322?pt=Desktop_PCs&hash=item43b89d8ef2#viTabs_0 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Built-Gaming-PC-/150993213753?pt=Desktop_PCs&hash=item2327e59939 http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-CUSTOM-GAMING-PC-COMPUTER-AMD-QUAD-CORE-WIN-7-ULTIMATE-WARRANTY-FREE-GIFT-/150995054701?pt=Desktop_PCs&hash=item232801b06d
kualus 1 Posted February 15, 2013 I would go for the 2nd one. Phenom II X4 955 will get the job done, and GTX 460 is nothing to sneeze at. Blue-Ray burner is a bonus.
Leon86 13 Posted February 15, 2013 (edited) Yeah Shark, the one with the 955 is the best one for arma2. So Nvidia's Titan in 5 days with a single GPU coming very close to the t00fer cards (690/7990).Will be interesting to see what kind of a dent these bad boys can put in ArmA 2. bangtail 0 Posted February 15, 2013 (edited) any real info yet? http://videocardz.com/39536/nvidia-geforce-gtx-titan-to-be-released-on-february-18th Grain of salt but the consensus seems to be that it is very close to 690 performance and that it will be released on the 18th of Feb. I've heard pricing anywhere from $800-1600 USD. I won't bite if they are more than a 690 ($1100.00), there is no point in spending that kind of money on a card that is slower than the 690 imho - 6GB of RAM is more than I'll need since I prefer 1 monitor for gaming. The 7xx is only a few months out anyway and 680 SLI is great (and unlikely to be challenged by anything in the interim with the possible exception of Metro LL). Having said that, if the price is right ;) This may all be moot anyway as I have a feeling these will be difficult to come by with most people 'in the know' predicting a totally paper launch (I'm only interested if I can get 2) :( Edited February 15, 2013 by BangTail
domokun 515 Posted February 15, 2013 If it's anything like the hyperpole of the last NVidia launch, I won't be holding my breath...
Leon86 13 Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) Titan http://videocardz.com/39721/nvidia-geforce-gtx-titan-released check out that sli bridge, it's awesome. Performance gain is modest compared to the 680, but with only 250W that's to be expected, wondering if there will be heavily overclocked versions that push poweruse a bit higher. Edited February 19, 2013 by Leon86
bangtail 0 Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) Yah, looks like a no go for me. $2000.00+ (2 cards) for moderate performance gains just doesn't make sense to me. I really despise when Nvidia pulls this kind of shit (basically because they can). If they were more intelligently priced, I'd definitely bite but I just can't justify it given the price/performance that we have seen to this point. Proper reviews on Thursday which may yet change my mind but as it stands now, I'll wait for the 7xx series. And Crysis 3 is awesome btw but it is taking me into the 20 FPS range in some areas and that might also push me to buy Titans if the proper reviews show a good improvement. Edited February 19, 2013 by BangTail
Leon86 13 Posted February 19, 2013 I think they dont have that many card avialable, ridiculously priced to prevent them from being permanently out of stock, like when the 680 launched. If it doesn't sell they can always make it a bit cheaper. Hopefully there will be a review on the tech report. they also look at stuff like 99th percentile frame time, instead of just doing the minmaxaverage. Anyway, I wont be buying one of course, one titan is more expensive than my entire system is now :D
bangtail 0 Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) Same, I'd really like to see some 'proper' reviews with real numbers etc - not all this speculation and rumor that pervades every bloody card launch. My rep told me that they should have stock on the 21st, we shall see if this is the case. The rumor that there would only be 10,000 made has been debunked as well so at least there won't be any 'one per customer' shenanigans :D Edited February 19, 2013 by BangTail
