Leon86 13 Posted October 18, 2010 would a "Intel Core i3 540 / 3.06GHz /" be any good? also how much more ram? 4GB is the recommended ammount, and for arma there's no reason to get more. An i3 540 is a dualcore where the i5-760 is a quadcore. In arma I dont know if it's better to have an i3 dualcore or an athlonII triple/quad, but the amd is probably cheaper. Neither will run high res/settings with any decent view distance at what would be considered acceptable levels.
meade95 0 Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) I'm not to computer savy....But I've been reading about needing the following tweaks to make A2/OA work better..... Regarding ...cpuCount=4. And exThreads=7 Where exactly do I put this? In the exe file of A2/OA?? Also, what should mine be, with my system. I have a DELL XPS 720 System (2 years old). Quad Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz 3GB RAM GeForce 8800 GT 512 RAM RUNNING WINDOWS XP Also what should I have in the following settings for my video card Tripple Buffering? ON or OFF? Threaded Optimization? ON OR OFF? Thanks for any help / advice... Edited October 19, 2010 by meade95
Azza FHI 50 Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) hey man. i can help u with the location of those commands. all u need to do is create a shortcut of the exe file. do not change the actual exe file! inside the shortcut it will have 'target line' - obviously this is where the shortcut points to, the original exe file. then at the end of the line put a space and a "- command" eg. target line - C: games/arma2/arma2.exe -mod=sound_mod -cpucount=4 -nosplash nosplash skips the game intro so u can get down to bizo ps. those ppl voting for 'other' graphics cards, u aint got nuthin, 5970 reigns king!!!!! The exthreads and cpucount variables were to avoid a problem with hyperthreading cpu's, these problems are fixed now and your cpu doesnt even have hyperthreading. I'd have threaded optimisation and tribuf on, although I'm not sure triple buffering actually works under directx, thought it was an opengl thing. ---------- Post added at 09:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:49 AM ---------- ps. those ppl voting for 'other' graphics cards, u aint got nuthin, 5970 reigns king!!!!! bangtail 0 Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) ps. those ppl voting for 'other' graphics cards, u aint got nuthin, 5970 reigns king!!!!! AMD's drivers are naff when it comes to multi-GPU. I've posted many articles that substantiate that claim in the last few pages. Nvidia GTX 580 is rumoured to be very close (as are AMD's new cards although they don't sound that exciting). You can download Everest and check your OC, when you get it installed, look under Computer --- > Overclock and it will give you accurate info. http://www.lavalys.com/sites/default/files/releases/everestultimate550.exe Edited October 19, 2010 by BangTail

If windows starts whining it's not genuine there's probably some update not installed yet. Just make sure it's activated. You can find the activate thingy at the same page you see the speed, rmb on comp then properties.

bangtail 0 Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) You need to disable your CPU's power saving in the BIOS mate, it's downclocking. I'd have to say that your CPU is not overclocked though as the bus speed is 133 and that is the standard bus speed. Edited October 19, 2010 by BangTail
Leon86 13 Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) You can just run something and you see the clockspeed increase, it's indeed not overclocked, that's a shame. The bclk is running on 133, that's the stock frequency. I wouldn't worry about the memory, there's no advantage in having memory faster than stock unless your overclock requires it (if you increase the bclk the memory starts running faster as wel, as there's a minimum multiplier). I run avg antivirus free edition, but you can use microsoft security essentials as well. Both are pretty lightweigt. Virusses are very rare these days, if you dont visit shady sites and use only legal software from reliable sources you don't really need one. bangtail 0 Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) You can just run something to see the full speed but I disable those features, they have been known to downclock during games etc so best to ditch it altogether. Off to play Fallout: New Vegas now so I hope you get it sorted :) Edited October 19, 2010 by BangTail
