Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

Ausome.

Keep in mind you will have Windows 7 64 bit, so if you run into troubles, then be sure to patch with the latest

and then search through the forums here for any solutions to issues you may have,

but overall i dont see a problem.

Hello all! I'm new to all this so please be a little easy on me! I'm looking to buy a new gaming computer and was looking for some help. I want to spend from $800-$1,000. $1,200 fully ready to play with monitor, key board, mouse, and speakers. Any ideas? Any input would be appreciated! Thank you for your time!

A few ideas:

OS-operating system: win xp or Win 7, prob win 7

CPu:

get at least a dual core 2.4 or more, go for more.

graphics card:

Get Nvidia 200-400 series card

Power: at least 700watts

Ram: get 4 sticks 1 gig a piece

Motherboard:Asus

Mouse: Logitech optical mouse

keyboard: look around I cant reccomend one

Speakers: Boss 5.1 surround sound

Sound Card: creative xfi fatality, if not higher

Monitor: 1600x900 cant think of any brands atm

Gaming Rigs:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=114

Keep in mind for Arma2 you want dual core, anything 2.4 and up, and a graphics card anything Nvidia 200 series and up.

I say nvidia as i dont know about ATI and from all the stuff I read and complaints they arn't dependable,

and i never had an issue with Nvidia and I been using them since 1996.

Hope that at least gets you an idea, surely others can reccomend

some good parts or great computer rigs for Arma2.

If you can get a pc with a core i5-750 (or 760) processor and a gtx 460 gpu I'd go for that. Ati 5850's are a bit faster even but also more expensive.

He has quite a good budget so I'd say go for a quadcore for sure.

Saying any Nvidia 200-400 card will do is just a bad advice. A gf 210 won't even run the game. a gts 450 isn't really faster then a 9800gtx and that's not in the series.

Your ram advice is also terrible, why would you get 4 sticks of 1gig a piece if you can get 2 sticks of 2 gig a piece for less.

Asus isn't the only company that makes good mobo's. I have 3 asus boards and no problems so far. Next board I buy will be gigabyte, but asus is an A-brand that's true.

If you buy a decent board you don't need a soundcard, just use onboard, if you're not satisfied you can always add one.

I'd say a 500w psu will be more than enough if you buy an A-brand and only run 1 gpu.

Saying any Nvidia 200-400 card will do is just a bad advice.

Did I actually say that? No, Its a suggestion, obviosly a 210 wouldn't run the game, its a general concept,

I only state the range as to give him a general idea of where to look, thats why i suggested at the end

"Hope that at least gets you an idea" and surely i'm not going to be the only one responding to the post,

so i left it at that.

Your ram advice is also terrible, why would you get 4 sticks of 1gig a piece if

you can get 2 sticks of 2 gig a piece for less.

Well lets patronize me even more, from my stand point im just going off of what I know based on my computer setup,

which Runs the game fairly well, as I have 2 sticks 1 gig a piece, so i figured that add 2 more sticks a gig

a piece and youd be ok, if you can do 2 sticks 2 gigs a piece then great.

I'm here to help anyway I can, and if its not 100% correct, then one has to use their best judgement

and or get other options, and or opinions, he asked for suggestions thats what i gave him be it right or wrong.

Going by what i say alone even though i post frequently on various topics dont mean Im an expert,

I know alot things about the game, as well as computers to my limited knowledge, If you dont want

to accept what I suggest, because it may or may not be wrong or what your looking for, then so be it,

its no big deal.

Asus isn't the only company that makes good mobo's.

Of course it isn't, just what came to mind at the moment i was typing,

as it isn't everyday you swap out a motherboard, I've only done it twice

in my time with computers, as i said its a suggestion, take it or leave, it,

if you can suggest some other ones then by all means, it would help.

Off the top of my head and dont take my word for it, but:

dedicated I believe is a card that can be removed

integrated is a card that is built into the motherboard.

Just my guess really, i got a friend that is a computer tech that could better answer your questions,

but those are my guess as to what they are.

As for the power supply, i really dont know why they dont list the power,

its prob got a stock power supply in there either 500watt, or something smaller,

I cant really say for sure, I suggest that you contact them and really find out, if your aiming to get that computer,

Oh two more questions. What does it mean when the graphics card is "dedicated" or "integrated"? Also why doesn't CompUsa list the power source for this computer http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6634283&Sku=SYX-1053 but for some computers it'll list the power source?

If you buy an assembled pc the PSU should be sufficient for the pc, no real need to list it, although it would be nice. Dedicated indeed means there's a "real" videocard in it instead of a chip on the motherboard that usually uses (a part of) the pc memory for video memory.

If you want to compare gpu's take a look at this chart, I still have an 8800gtx and I cant really play at medium details on 1920x1200. The 240 is 3 rows down, roughly half the speed. I strongly suggest you look at something with a faster gpu.

The E5400 is a budget outdated processor and although it does perform ok there are better (AMD) processors in that price catagory.

Current generation processors are the intel i series (i3/i5/i7) and amd PhenomII or AthlonII processors.

Anyway, if I had to make a recomendation I'd get something like this. It has an intel i series quadcore, without the (for gaming) useless hyperthreading, 4GB ram and a very fast gpu.

Thank you for both of your answers :). This is just a a computer to begin my PC gaming. I will most definently upgrade the parts for it!

AMD's AM3 socket is quite upgrade-friendly (processor-wise of course) A good board should run anything from the cheapest (30 euro) sempron to the 6-core phenomII's

@alex: That'll run, don't expect great performance, the processor is quite fast but the gpu isn't, there just isn't enough room for a big gpu and it's cooling in a laptop.

Hi and welcome Alex,

As Leon said, the GPU (graphics card is quite weak and will mean playing on lowest graphics settings)

If you are in UK or want to consider buying with extra shipping have a look at THIS company.

I have that G860 laptop with:

i7 740QM

4gb ram

HD5870

Win7-64

and it actually runs ARMA:OA quite well (25-50fps) at 1920x1080. (Lots of AI will kill the fps)

The other alternative is Alienware

I run ArmA II since a few days on:

early 2008 MacBook Pro

15"

2.5GHz Core 2 Duo

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512MB

6GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz

Windows XP Pro SP2 via Bootcamp installation

Bootcamp 3.1 drivers (includes graphics driver)

1280x800

1200m

normal textures

default graphics card settings

AA off

shadows disabled

post processing disabled

object and landscape detail lowest settings

latest ArmA II OA update

I run it rather fluently @ about 25 fps in single player missions.

I did not try player yet - lack of speedy servers here in China.

I am not satisfied with the performance.

ArmA ran very nice on this machine, as do other games.

@muttley: It's certainly not worth that much. Besides, if you're gonna spend that kind of money you wouln't buy a 750GB harddisk, and why is there an IDE dvd player in there ??? Sata has been the norm for years, nobody wants a big pata cable in their system.

If you want the best deal you'll have to build it yourself (pretty easy these days) but I'm pretty sure there are better deals on pre assembled systems than the one you found there.

On that site you can also "design" your own pc. That way you only have to select components.

Computer Case Antec P183 - Silent

CPU Intel Core i5 760 (4 x 2.8GHz) 8MB

CPU Heatsink Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - Silent

Memory Corsair 4GB XMS3 PC3-12800 1600MHz (2x2GB) - Lifetime Warranty (DDR3)

Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 - 1 GB - (EVGA)

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P55-US3L (Intel P55)

Sound Card Motherboard Integrated 5.1 Sound

Networking Motherboard Integrated Ethernet Lan (Broadband Ready)

USB Ports 4 x USB 2.0 Ports

Firewire Ports 1 Port Firewire IEEE 1394 (Built In)

Power Supply Corsair 550W (CMPSU-550VXUK) (select 500W first, then this one)

Case Wiring Professional Standard

Hard Drive #1 1 TB (1000 GB) SATA-II HDD UDMA 300 7200 32MB

Optical Drive #1 Samsung (SH-S223L) DVD +/- RW 24x - Black - Lightscribe (SATA)

Operating System #1 Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 BIT (Genuine DVD & COA Included)

Backup Software Windows Backup

Free Gift Free - 8 Port Surge Protection

(things that are greyed out dont need selecting, they're built in or default)

System is 950 pounds, has no monitor, keyboard or mouse, reckon you have that allready

If you choose these components you'll have something that runs arma 2 quite well, If you want the bigger gpu (the 480 or the 5870) choose that and also choose a bigger psu (650 or more should do).

The components I selected have a good price/performance where I live, the super-expensive systems will of course be a bit faster but the price/performance will be a lot less.

The i5-760 is the same processor as the i7-860 only with hyperthreading (absolutely useless in gaming) disabled.

I'd say this is a very fast gaming pc, maybe you'll want to wait for someone else on these forums to confirm that, if you're not in a hurry.

Way to go except for the HDD!

If you put that amount of money for a comp then you should absolutely go for a SSD hard drive!

Don't forget that your system will always be limited by its weakest component...which is your hard drive at the moment.
