echo1 0 Posted August 24, 2009 In theory yes, but in practice it's unreliable. You're better off with a new motherboard.
The 10 Posted August 24, 2009 hmm, I did some reading up on the whole thing and it seems they were designed to fit into AM2 sockets. I just ordered teh new motherboard but AM2+ processors are 'spensive. D'oh! I'll read some more. Is the processor sufficient for ArmA 2 though?
echo1 0 Posted August 24, 2009 They were designed to be backwards compatible alright, but in practice, a lot of original AM2 boards never properly supported them. The other advantage of the AM2+ boards is that they allow you to upgrade to Phenom IIs (which are definitely not backwards compatible with AM2 motherboards) And yes, the CPU should be fast enough for ArmA 2, just don't expect to be maxing out settings on widescreen monitors or the like. echo1 0 Posted August 25, 2009 It will probably run fine, that is the general sort of spec I'd recommend to someone building a new computer to run ArmA II or any other such contemporary game.

Maybe the 450W may suffice if you are on a really tight budget... Check this.
Reverend Crast 10 Posted August 25, 2009 GTX275.If you look at benchmarks, the 275 offers most of the performance of the 285 for much less money. And I wouldnt bother with dual GPU cards, a waste of money really... Unless you have a crazy setup with a pile of 30" screens. Thank you very much for the advice. I don't have a pile of 30" screens :)

echo1 0 Posted August 26, 2009 Hi! Do anyone here have any experience with the AMD Phenom II x3 720 processor? I'm thinking of getting one ;P I don't actually own one, but I have read plenty of good reviews, and intend on buying the quad core version soon. Bare in mind that ArmA 2 doesnt really benefit from having anything more than two cores. just got MSI ATI 4870 1GB and set stable clocks GPU/MEM to 820/1050Mhz, also i have old Core2Duo E4400 clocked to 3Ghz stable. ArmA 2 Demo TexQuality: High Video Memory: Very High AF: Normal AA: Disabled Terrain Detail: Normal Object Detail: Normal Shadows: High PP: Disabled Fillrate: 125% or 133% VD: 2000m With this settings i get average of 35FPS in Demo mission (Demo benchmark says 38 FPS Average), though sometimes it drops to 25FPS. It gets to 40-60 when there's nothing happening, just island and running around :) and that's why i think it's CPU?
