  1. Motherboard ATI Radeon HD4850 512 250GB HDD-ATA I'm going with those. Just one thing. I need a new PSU as mine is horrendously weak. Is this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/600-Watt-ATX-Silent-PC-Power-Supply-Unit-PSU-600W-EVO_W0QQitemZ360181827228QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_PowerSupplies_EH?hash=item53dc82869c&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262 compatible with the above? I've gone for an AMD Athlon 6000+ x2 3.1GHz for the CPU EDIT: I know they're not the best, but it's what I can affor.

Thanks, guys, but this is the most expensive CPU I can afford. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMD-Athlon-64-x2-6000-3-1GHz-CPU-Brisbane-Heatsink-NEW_W0QQitemZ120461592921QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motherboards_CPUs?hash=item1c0c120959&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 Speak now or forever hold your piece.

I found this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMD-Athlon-64-x2-6000-3-1GHz-CPU-Brisbane-Heatsink-NEW_W0QQitemZ120461592921QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motherboards_CPUs?hash=item1c0c120959&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 I'm going to get it, I think, and whilst you lot tell me yes or no, I'm going to go and call my gran for a loan. :j: ---------- Post added at 05:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:21 PM ---------- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMD-Athlon-64-x2-6000-3-1GHz-CPU-Brisbane-Heatsink-NEW_W0QQitemZ120461592921QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motherboards_CPUs?hash=item1c0c120959&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 If I get that, am I looking at stable playability? I can live happily off noodles for a few weeks/2 months. I just want to get a PC up and running that can handle ArmA 2 as this laptop is on its last legs.

I don't actually know what that means  And all I want is a "yes it will run" or "no it won't". Sorry to be a noob, but I just wanna get the parts ordered :( EDIT: I should mention I'm on a fairly tight budget. Will they fit into an AM2+ Socket?

I know about the sticky, and I posted in it several times. However, I never really get what I'm after (if anything at all). http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150366970606&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Will this processor work?
  6. hmm, I did some reading up on the whole thing and it seems they were designed to fit into AM2 sockets. I just ordered teh new motherboard but AM2+ processors are 'spensive. D'oh! I'll read some more. Is the processor sufficient for ArmA 2 though?
  7. I know I've posted a lot in this thread, but no replies :eek: how is this processor: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150366970606&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT And will and AM2 processor fit into an AM2+ socket?
  8. Nevermind, the Mobo isn't compatible. This one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150366970606&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Anyone?
  9. Yeah, wages are exactly the same across the board for the forces ;) Basic training for the army consists of the AFC at harrogate as well though, doesn't it? It'll take me 9 weeks basic+6months technical+12-18 months at an air station to be qualfied to undertake my job :O Good luck to you as well, dude. PS. Marines is 32 weeks ;) EDIT: How about this processor, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=250484803223&Category=80139&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2 ?
  10. Yeah, I'm joining the navy next year (should've been the 6th of September but medical stuff happened). 9 weeks in basic training with nowhere to spend money =£1,540. Enough to buy a cheap laptop until a few months into phase 2 (technical training) where I'll get my gaming laptop. Not like I'll have enough time to play anyway. Now what I really came here for: I discovered a PC that's a few years old in the deepest, darkest regions of the cupboard under the stairs. It's 5 years old, the PSU is working, the optical drive should work as it was before we hid the PC. It doesn't even get to BIOS now, just bleeps like a tit :butbut: So, here's the plan. New Motherboard New Ram ATI Radeon HD4850 512 250GB HDD AMD Phenom II, unless someone can recommend cheaper... Total cost: £251 We still have the XP serial number so I'm going to call Miscrosoft and see if they can get a disc to us, if not... Total with OS: £310 We still have a(n old) monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard and all that jazz so once that stuffs in (I think I'll buy in installments :p) I'll be good to go (I hope).
  11. If that's all that would need upgrading, I may be able to stretch to that. I'm 18 in a month so early birthday quids, a loan from my grandparents and I get paid soon. I think I may just be able to stretch it.
  12. That's what I was afraid of. If I went for this: http://www.arbico.co.uk/Arbico-QC-8200-GT-Custom-Built-Power-PC-p-18312.html What is the cheapest CPU and graphics card I could get away with whilst still playing on medium to high settings?
  13. Could I run it with this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMD-ATHLON-x2-6000-3Ghz-True-D-Core_W0QQitemZ290299216040QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_DesktopPCs?hash=item43972e80a8&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1690|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50 I'd only get a new PC for this game and I need the cheapest one possible.
