Last minute suggestions

Recommended Posts

Now that new information regarding Arma II has been given a weekly schedule by BIS, many people are expecting the game to be released as early as May. For that reason, I'm creating this topic so we can remind BIS with some of those last minute suggestions and tips that may have been forgotten about earlier in the developing process.

Okay, first I'll start it out with the wounded animations. Judging from other games and what's been seen in Arma II footage, these are usually mediocre best. It's an excellent concept, but I haven't really seen it expanded upon in any game. BIS can take the extra step by letting the AI fall to the ground, and instead of just laying there struggling, the character could show more emotion by rolling a bit in pain, or lift themselves up to their feet and stumble away to flee the scene- if there is a safe path. Personally, I expect these suggestions to work much better with civilians than soldiers, as I would imagine that soldiers would be trained to stay put until help can come to them, (can anyone confirm?).

Something else that I'd like to bring to attention are the blood effects. Now, I don't think that many people will agree with me, but I would like to suggest that BIS remove the "blood spray" from bullet wounds altogether. The reason I say this is because it seems like something derived from the general 'arcadish' games. As a replacement, there should be blood on the ground is the unit is wounded. According to the Discovery channel, the heart will continue to pump blood out of the body as long as the person is still alive, (makes sense), so, if the unit is still alive but wounded, he should continue to bleed onto the ground until he's dead or receives medical attention.

Okay, let's change the subject now because I'm sure you're all thinking that I'm morbid by now.  wink_o.gif

Alright, I'd like to explain my thoughts on the damage system. It's been said many times that vehicles should never blow up when shot with bullets. This is not only a graphical problem, but it also has a big affect on the gameplay. I'd much rather have the vehicles become disabled at worst, (hopefully that will only happen if the engine is shot)! The aircraft also has problems: They blow up too easily. We all have seen those videos of a helicopter crash on the numerous "Most Shocking Videos" type TV shows. Instead of having the aircraft blow up, I would much, much prefer to simply have parts break off and dirt fly from the wreckage. Now, I understand that if there are explosives on board then this could make a difference, but it should still be much more lenient than as in the first Arma, if not for realistic accuracy then for gameplay purposes.

Anyways, there's more stuff I'd like to mention, but I'm tired of typing. Sorry for the long paragraphs. Feel free to add to the list.

Not anymore. It said Q1 on the official site, but now it's just 2009.

I also wanted to add that Arma II should have a unique song for the main menu. Look at Halo, I don't even like the game yet every time I hear the song, that's the first thing I think of. Also, I'm not a big fan of having a video as a background. A cool picture would work just as well, and give the menu a more organized appearance.

Also, this is pretty trivial but the start menu very mundane. I was playing Fallout 3 and I noticed that when I pause the game, the background goes out of focus in addition to other effects. Effects like that, and not necessary limited to the pause screen, helps make the game feel more polished in my opinion.

EDIT: I wanted to emphasize that the release date so far is purely speculation and no exact date has been announced, as far as I know.

To be honest , i want a game that is well optimized on its release , so it can handle future addons.

Maybe they will implement more fetures/content in a future addon .

Feature list is imho long closed. Guess BIS is now testing, bugfixing and do some polishing here and there... lets see if BIS made a "milestone in military gaming"! Hope that most of the UI stuff is optional so everybody can change it easily to his likings. If the player dont like some HUD stuff + colors let him change/disable it.

Hm ...by UI you mean the menus confused_o.gif ? Cause there isnt much to change in game ... . Plus I  think the new red , white and grey menus are nice , adds a modern minimalistic look to the game

<- dont like the colors

lets go out to handle this problem >:O

^^

@NoRailgunner: Is it official closed? My mirrors sad_o.gif

But its only logical that BIS wouldnt make deep changes anymore.

So what can we do now? Theres still some time to release. Speculations about the diplomacy between the different sites?

I think suggestions are still best way to wait^^

I would like to see helicopter blades get damaged/destroyed whenever they bisect an unyielding object (like a building or the ground).

Ohh yes, that would be killer!

Together with the RKSL Blade-system could advance helicopter simulation even more.

Animations, animations, animations. You really cant get enough of them smile_o.gif

Or a properly coded physics engine with the capabilities of Pixelux's Digital Molecular Matter middleware. wink_o.gif

i dont know if this is suggested in another topics.

but about the heli "Ka52" that arma II has.. please make the Vikhr missile launcher weapon only able to lock-on to Ground target. as this is in reality a anti tank missile, i know it can shoot down planes. but they fly must in a strait line and at slow speed. this missile is just the russian answer to the american hellfire"  no way on earth that missile would shoot down a join strike fighter that is turning and looping. or a harrier. sure a hovering plane would be a easy target.

i been playing warfare alot. when the missions uses the orginale weapon its no fun. it ruines the game a bit, kiddies hovering over towns with ammo truck, fuel and repair trucks under them. raping everyting at 2-4 KM away. you might say.. put some AA units on the map. well its not as easy as that.. if the ka pilot desides to stay way back the AA soldiers cant see the Ka. and usaly have to pass trough enemy towns to see it,. they be long dead before they reach a point they can fire the aa missiles

I was playing Arma and noticed that the grenade explosions could use a lot of work. The fire needs bloom, there should be more projectiles like smaller pieces of concrete and sparks. What would be really cool, though, is if the particles were based on physics so they wouldn't go through buildings.

Something else that really annoys me about Arma is when my character accidentally falls off a building then I wouldn't be able to walk and my legs would be covered in blood, even if the building isn't that high.

Imagine what computer could run it? If you have any spare nitrogen freezers for your total loss liquid nitrogen coolers, let me know!
