Anyone Getting More Crashes with 180.48 Drivers ?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Updated to Nvidia 180.48 drivers a couple of weeks ago and since I get a couple of crashes each night of the "Arma has encountered a problem. . . " type - is anyone else experiencing this ? Nothing else in the system changed.

I don't have any problem with this driver (8800GT). Best driver for Arma so far for me smile_o.gif ..but ppl use Driver Sweeper to clean previous driver and PhysX version  welcome.gif

PS try 180.70 ppl report better IQ

No changes in the crashes here(with new drivers).

I have to run the game in windowed mode to avoid crashing.

I am (was) using Sli in Arma with my 9800gtx's on 178.13 drivers. Worked flawlessly, one of the best examples of sli working well. But now with any kind of AFR or Nvidia Recommended SLI I get horrible flickering. Anyone else using sli tried these drivers?

yes, I got the same flickering.

running q6600 3ghz; 4gb ram; 2x 8800 GTX ; os xp x64

178.13_geforce_winxp_64bit_english_whql.exe in sli perfect

180.48_geforce_winxp_64bit_english_whql.exe in sli full flickering already at startup;

flickering is gone when sli is disabled.

Iám running x64. Maybe that's the cause

hmmm,

Anything above 178.24whql, I get mass flickering but only with SLI enabled.

64bit issue?

are you guys using vsync? Try a rename to get different profile.....

Think I have Vsync off already, Ill check later, cheers. I am on Vista 64 bit but I don't think its a 64 bit issue, I think Nvidia just messed up the profiles while fixing some thing else.

I also tried the 180.84 GTAIV beta drivers ( I have GTAIV and it does run better with those drivers) but still same flickering :/

where is the best place to post to let Nvidia know about this?  The only place I can think of is here:

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.p....orum=33

please post your issues here to make nvidia aware of the problem.

cheers

PS. just tried to force off Vsync, no change still flickers like a bugger

well try the Vsync for a test.. The bad night vision goggles seems to clear up for me if i turn shadows off in nighttime games...

Vsync either way doesn't stop the flickering. (178.24whql does)

I must say though, the combination I'm testing from the list above, has been well worth it, with beta 180.84 from Nvidia.

Before:

Testing beta drivers would just push me back to the previous whql.....(just changing ArmA video options would cause a freeze or BSOD from Nvidia).

Today:

50+fps, mostly all high above normal settings, 10,000 VD.

40+ in heavy forest northern area.

I'm able to float through any video changes and remain stable, SLI on or off.

I still get flickering with SLI though.

I'm leaving SLI disabled in the ArmA profile for now.....It feels like a new game.... going to play.

Please post your SLI issues on the nvidia forum link I posted above. Ill be unimpressed if they release a 180 whql with this flickering.

thanks

Yup   me too...massive flickering...moved back to 178.24 and all is well. Funny thing is that it only affected Arma...all other titles including OFP worked flawlessly... crazy_o.gif

I added the bug report. Running Vista 32 with 180.48 & .84 drivers. Get severe white strobing as soon as game starts but ONLY when running in SLI. Single GPU works fine.

Hopefully they will fix it. whistle.gif

Me too. Playing with Vista 64bit and 8800GT. And same problem, SLI is impossible due to massive flickering, single GPU is ok.

There was btw only 180.43 driver version in dropdown list...wasn't .48 the last official version?

.48 is WHQL (I had flickering with them)

They are up to a recent 181.00 beta I've yet to test.

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1671

180.84 and Vista SP2/beta have my pc running great.

The only issue is ArmA with SLI.

Even with SLI disabled in the Nvidia ArmA profile..... the game is running smooth as silk.

I stopped the flickering by using these settings and the 181 Beta driver. (Uninstalled 180 drivers, rebooted and ran driver sweeper first.)

- Nvidia Control Panel

Set [sLI Performance] to Force split-frame rendering

Set [Vertical Synch] to Force off

PhysX and SLI both Enabled

PhysX version is 8.10.13

I can't say the game won't crash as I have not tested the stability yet. At least the flickering is gone now and the game is playable.

Good Gawd Nvidia.

tried the 181, no luck. I gave SFR a go and it works, but I know from my previous experimentation that AFR2 (Nvidia recommended) gives me far better performance than SFR, in fact iirc SFR gives me worse FPS than single GPU mode.

Yeah but AFR2 doesnt work. Flicker Frenzy

So I go with what works for now so I don't have to keep turning off SLI to play. Only annoying thing now is that I have to set the SFR everytime I reboot the computer before I launch ARMA.

I dunno guys, all my other games work fine, including GTA IV.

There has to be something BIS can do to fix this isn't there ?
