mr.g-c 6 Posted November 10, 2008 Idea: Hi there, i think in the 3rd Series of BIS Military-Simulations it should be a standard that a Mission-Maker can place ALL Objects which are delivered with the Game/Island on the map when making a mission. - Simply what Editor-upgrades like the ones made by Mapfact or Lowfly are offering currently - Examples are Objects like: Roads, Houses, Bushes, Trees, Energy-Lanes, Lamps, Traffic-Signs, but also "special Objects" like: Grass-Cutters (removes grass where placed), Tree/Bush-Cutters (removes Trees/Bushes where placed), Object-Remover (Destroys + then removes any Objects like Houses/Signs/etc. from Map and makes Place for Placing own stuff), Reason(s): Simply to give each Mission-Designer the MAXIMUM in Artistic freedom. I can't remember one Mission in which i haven't wished such a Freedom and thus i often used the Editor-Upgrade(s) made by the community. However, if Addon-Handling remains as bad as it was with OFP and Arma1, a default inclusion of such a editor-upgrade would be very nice. Examples: When someone wants to place some more Houses/Roads/Traffic-Signs/etc. to a City, when someone wants to get rid of some Trees in Woods for his Mission, or whatever you can even imagine in which such a freedom would become handy.... Arguments Against it: Since OFP times people discussed in Forums why something like that isn't included by default and often the Argument like "Its all to cluttered then" is getting posted... I agree with that, however a simple solution could be to implement something like a Extension-Button when Placing a new Object on the map, which then extends the listed Objects to be placed. Now i would like to hear your opinion and hopefully BIS will read this too.
Misfit Leader 2 Posted November 10, 2008 I agree, and mostly because of the choice that you have to "lock" your mission to the players who downloaded and installed an addon that unlock content available in their game..
.kju 3245 Posted November 10, 2008 Clutters the editor and confuses people. Experts can use addons. Experts make addons that unhide the objects, yet still do NOT add a requirement to the addon.
POTS 0 Posted November 10, 2008 We also need to ask what kind of performance affect that will have. Islands, besides buildings, are mostly static. If all materials and objects are dynamic, won't that cause increase demand on your processor/ram?
Taurus 20 Posted November 10, 2008 Add that if it doesn't affect performance. Also I'd like to see the icons of static objects actually representing the size of the object. Take the warfare sandbag walls, mg nests, sheds, radar towers and such Its pretty impossible to line them up properly in the editor.
sparks50 0 Posted November 10, 2008 Q: I dont think mission making should be something only for experts. In fact, increasing user friendliness could be a positive thing, and make the editor look MUCH more powerful in the eyes of the average game/magazine reviewer. As for cluttering, it wont be a problem if indexed in the drop-down menu system.
Lester 0 Posted November 11, 2008 Tree/Bush-Cutters (removes Trees/Bushes where placed),Object-Remover (Destroys + then removes any Objects like Houses/Signs/etc. from Map and makes Place for Placing own stuff), I don't think that bush/tree cutters are possible without a heavy engine modification. But i would perfer that deleting of island objects are possible. Ok, that's a point for cheating, but with the actual non delete but rotateable objects cheats are also possible in the most cases. Maybe it would be an excelent way that only a server/ dedicated Server are allowed to delete island objects.
NoRailgunner 0 Posted November 11, 2008 How many editorupdates and upgrades were build for OFP? Â Hope that BIS will have a look at 3DE + MAP_EU - nice structure and userfriendly icons!
celery 8 Posted November 11, 2008 It's frustrating to know that there is an object in the game that you have absolutely no way of placing without an addon that's required from everyone who plays it. I'm talking about the objects that have no classnames, such as various fences, walls, fountains, bushes, rocks, bridges and the likes. You can't build a goddamn military base with wooden walls unless you want one with a big hole in every section.

Anyway, all the other Editor Upgrade haven't affect Server performance at all (if you not place 10.000 of scripted "grasscutters") and on client of course only if you place tones of big houses - aka. "extending" bagango to twice its size Regards, Christian
