M.Andersson(SWE) 4 Posted March 30, 2008 I have figured that the displayed speed is in kiloknots.. But how do i translate that into KM/H?? Would be nice to know how fast the planes and choppers really are...
NoRailgunner 0 Posted March 30, 2008 Didn't you pay enough attention in school? You have to search.... hint: 1 knot = 1.852 kilometers per hour and remember other countries using mph.
Yoshama 0 Posted March 30, 2008 here in america we use knots when flying. the only time when i know someone used mph was back in ww2 with brits. its all knots now
Frans 0 Posted March 30, 2008 Just type "convert xx knots to km per hour" (without the quotes) in google, with a number instead of the xx of course.
LastNinja9 0 Posted March 30, 2008 You can even leave "convert" out... Just type " 1 knot in km/h "

If you've heard mph its been in the movies.

Well, we use Km/h here... And yes i did pay attention...Thing is, im starting to forget all about it...Im on to my 40s now... LOL

If you've heard mph its been in the movies. Not true, Knots where used in navy aviation, miles where used in army aircorps aviation. Even today some aircraft in use have mph or even km/h dials. This is a P-40 airspeed gauge.
LeftSkidLow 1 Posted March 30, 2008 A lot of aircraft still use statute miles per hour, and a lot of airspeed indicators show both. Knots is much easier to use though, because winds reports/forecasts are always in knots, sectional chart distances are usually in reference to nautical miles, and flight plan forms want your True Airspeed in knots. Oh, and its easier to remember (6000 ft). I've never seen an airspeed indicator that uses kilometers per hour, I'm sure there are some out there though. I wish arma used knots, even the actual gauges in game which are in reference to knots don't work correctly. If you are going 200kmph the actual gauge might show 60 knots. And then there is the altimeter......

This is a P-40 airspeed gauge. http://www.warbirdsite.com/P-40ASI.jpg[mg] I stand corrected, I was adamant that I was right so I asked a mate who’s an Aviation History Buff and he concurs,  I would have bet good money you were wrong though! I was told (albeit a long time ago now) by my flight instructor that "MPH was never an acceptable unit of measure for an aircraft, even before the war when people treated aircraft like expensive cars" - direct quote It was one of his favourite speeches to trainees He did point me to Wikipedia which he assures me is “fairly accurate in this instance†http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knot_(speed) Quote[/b] ]Prior to 1969, airworthiness standards for civil aircraft in the USA Federal Aviation Regulations specified that distances were to be in statute miles, and speeds in miles per hour. In 1969 these standards[7] were progressively amended to specify that distances were to be in nautical miles, and speeds in knots. He was keen to point out that this really only applies to US aircraft, various nations and aircraft types dating from periods earlier than 1969 did use knots for varying reasons which is perhaps where “my confusion†comes from. max power 21 Posted March 30, 2008 In my version of ArmA, all of the HUD information is in meters / km/h... at least I hope the top speed of the ah-1 isn't supposed to be 250 knots! That's well past the helicopter world speed record. It's even well past the theoretical limit for helicopters. If it's in mph, it's walking a fine line! Beagle 684 Posted March 30, 2008 I've never seen an airspeed indicator that uses kilometers per hour, I'm sure there are some out there though. I have seen it in live an full color on a flight in the right seat of an Antonov-2. VVI in meters/second, altimeter in meters and airspeed in kilometers/h
LeftSkidLow 1 Posted March 31, 2008 Hmm well the HUD's might be correct the but gauges on the mh-6 and uh60's don't show the correct speed in knots.
Guest RKSL-Rock Posted March 31, 2008 Hmm well the HUD's might be correct the but gauges on the mh-6 and uh60's don't show the correct speed in knots. That's easily fixed on "new" aircraft. Â You just need to calibrate the needle animation in the model.cfg.
max power 21 Posted March 31, 2008 When I said HUD, I meant ArmA's HUD, not the vehicles HUD. I never use the vehicle HUDs. It's neat to see they have both.

No idea Quote[/b] ]Google Results 1 - 2 of 2 for kiloknot. (0.12 seconds) I would think logically (if it did exist) a kiloknot would have been 1000 knots. But, I think they just meant knots in the thread?
