Lucas 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Well guys, i'm very new to the forum, and i unfortunatly haven't got ARMA yet as i need to ask you all a question before i make the purchase. On the ARMA site i t says that the game is only compatible with Windows XP, sadly my gaming Computer has Vista. But i havn't put the game passed working on my PC yet as i play Fligt Simulator 2004 and that is only for XP but works fine on my PC. So does anyone know if it works with Vista please? Any help will be much apprechiated Thank you, Lucas
mattxr 9 Posted January 23, 2008 some people run it on Vista but they sometimes can run into problems.. so you should be oki.
Lucas 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Thanks for that Matt, there isn't a patch or anything like that for Vista users is there, you know to limit the amount of problems, glitches and so on? Thanks again Lucas
Kristian 47 Posted January 23, 2008 no there isnt updates for ARMA, but there should be system updates so that all XP games and programms etc would work on vista! Welcome to the forums dude! you will sure love arma, trust me

sickboy 13 Posted January 23, 2008 Discussion about ArmA problems on Vista: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=69307 Help on getting it running okay: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Troubleshooting_Vista TIP: Use ArmA v1.09beta (and newer when available) Quote[/b] ]You could try the demo before purchasing.Right? ArmA demo v1.04? I think nobody should "touch that with a 20ft pole". v1.08 is king and v1.09 is going to be Emperor
Lucas 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Thanks for the kind welcome guys, Sorry about posting here aswell, i've just been reading through the Vista support post that you mentioned Sickboy. And it seems that with the patches and updates i should be okay I'm not sure if this will help with the problems woth ARMA and Vista but I brought A flight simulator add-on a while back and i didn't work with vista at first, but my brother fixed it by going into vista as admin and allowing the Flight sim folder to essentially do what it wants. Now i'm not sure how it works and he only found out about it on a random website that he forgot to bookmark. But if anyone knows what i'm talking about then this might work with ARMA aswell. It's a long shot but you never know. C ya, Lucas
Rambo-16AAB 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Microsoft are religating vista to the Business world and are now continuing with developing XP ( hense the XP SP3 release ) so dont count on any backward compatabillity patch for Vista.

Vista + PreSp1 hotfixes + Latest Drivers + ArmA v1.09beta == Absolutely Shagedelic Even the 4GB bug should be resolved in ArmA v1.09 final, as Suma fixed a bug encountered in this area. Microsoft are religating vista to the Business world and are now continuing with developing XP ( hense the XP SP3 release ) so dont count on any backward compatabillity patch for Vista.Where are your sources?XP SP3 was always planned but always has been kept as quiet as possible to get better Vista sales. Vista has a lot of reliability, compatibility and performance fixes. The hotfixes out there, and the SP1 RC releases show significant improvements over the whole. Also, MS sells DX10 as the DX of the future; The future of gaming. Im not sure how you can conclude that MS sets Vista aside for gamers and only continues it for Business lol! Game works fine on vista otherwise, i never crash since 1.08 as long as the terrain detail ain't set to high (idk why that is)
SWAT_BigBear 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Since I'm the only user on my pc, I disabled UAC (User Account Control) in Vista. I've had very lil issues with gaming. Stay on top of your updates for it and the pc, and perform everything listed from SickBoy, if needed, and you should be a.o.k. I'm ruuning games like OFP, ArmA, Ravenshield, NFSMW, CoD4, Crysis, BF series ect. For any bugs/issues I've stumbled into, they have been fixed by asking help in forums like these. nubbin77 0 Posted January 24, 2008 I have no issues running arma with vista. Runs very well. I also seem to be one of the few lucky ones that can actually run with 4 gigs as well.
Lucas 0 Posted January 24, 2008 Thanks again guys, i've ordered ArmA from amazon and it should be here by Saturday There's just one more thing i would like to know, do i have to download all the updates i can find, or can i just download 1.08 and 1.09 when it arrives?
suma 8 Posted January 24, 2008 If you ordered Armed Assault: Gold Edition, you already will have 1.08 included. If you ordered the "plain" ArmA: Armed Assault, you have 1.05 and you need to download 1.08. As for 1.09, if you want to use this version, you need to download it as well, but this download is quite small and by installing it you will have access to both 1.08 and 1.09 versions. Lucas 0 Posted January 24, 2008 Yes, i ordered Gold Edition so all i have to do is get version 1.09 and everything will work perfect on my Vista Computer? Oh yea, i better tell you about my PC aswell: It's Vista 32bit and i have 2gig of DDR2 ram, with 2 Nvidia 8800 series Graphics cards with SLI. Can't remember what my processor is but it is dual core. I can play COD4 with pretty much maxed with perfct frames, so i think that it should handle ArmA fairly well i think.
