Looking for Nvidia working driver with arma

Recommended Posts

I read all the 8800GTS tread post,

and I create this one to report the version of driver that works with no crash, with new 8800 G92 cards:

I try 169.21 with my 8800GTS Gigabyte

With all setting very high games crash in few minutes

With Shadow high, AA high, AF, high, games crash random

but the setting that more affect the crash is the shadow setting.

my question are the following?

WHO PLAY ARMA with 8800GTS/GT without crash ?

please tell us game setting and Nvidia Drivers ?

I really hope that 1.09 solve these REALLY BIG problems!

Me, I play with everything very high and no crashes. XP aswell as Vista.

Use -maxmem=512 in your parameter list for ArmA

Then why don't you try v1.09beta. It won't hurt.

Quote[/b] ] Driver is 162.18 whql wich can be found at guru3d.com.

I dont know if this driver supports the newer 8800 models but if you have a earlier GTX/GTS model and experience any freezing/crashing issues with Arma give it a try.

I have a 8800 GTX.

I had freezes/crashes with all the latest garbage, including 169.28 beta, it all started in november with the betas nvidia released for that Crysis pos.

Arma is 100% stable since i rolled back to 162.18 whql, i can tab out, push it, abuse it and its rock solid.

In other words... blame nvidia pistols.gif .

I installed the 169.21whql drivers with the -maxmem=512 command, all settings to NORMAL and 4000m of visual range. The game runs without many problems (it happens it crashes to desktop sometimes, but rarely confused_o.gif ) in single player.

I played an entire afternoon in a Evolution without any issue biggrin_o.gif , but the graphic settings were all LOW and the visibility limited to 2500m. huh.gif

I have still to try an MP game on LAN with all settings to HIGH and visibility to 4000m or 5000m, but I think the game will not work. banghead.gif

It amazes me everytime and again that I have similair systems as those that report problems, altough heavily overclocked, and I receive the least problems.

I run everything very high, viewdistance usually between 3000-5000m, have no profile setup for ArmA in my nvidia control panel, am running always latest nvidia beta drivers from www.guru3d.com, got all the latest windows updates, chipset drivers, soundcard drivers, heck every latest driver for every piece of hardware in my machine.

Runs a charm in XP aswell as Vista. Pre 1.09beta I had to use -maxmem=512 as parameter. Now since 1.09 its a lot better and I can run without that command most of the time.

I can play Multiplayer all night and day long, I can create and test missions, scripts, etc. etc in single player.

Half of the time I do run on windowed mode (-window parameter), maybe this has some effect still?

Maybe ppl are using X-Fire, TS Overlay, or buggy addons that eat up memory or generate other problems??

I use Team speak

I have all updated in the system, and the message that I get is:

can't load texture dx .... etc.

Or some time lot of red stripes in the screen

After this game crash to desktop or some time reset entire system

My config is the follow:

CoreDuo Quad 6600 step G0 @3200Mhz (fresh like a flower)

4Gb Ram Corsair Dominator DHX cas4

Maximus Formula X38 Motherboard

2x Wd1600js raid 0 Hd

1x wd5000ak storage hd

Geforce 8800Gts 512 (Gigabyte stock overclock 700mhz gpu 1700 shaders)

Frist of this Video card I have a temporary one Ati X1950Pro and ArmA run fine, off course with lower setting...

With new 8800GTS I have lot of crashes and PC reset ... ONLY with ARMA.

I Got Also 22" LCD so I play in native resolution of 1680x1050

when I set wide in the aspect ratio of the game, the game background don't fit entire screen, it's the same for u ?

In conclusion I think, because I've read a lot in this forum about Arma and 8800 card that drivers could make big difference!!

SO if one off reading people got arma working well with NEW GTS or GT G92 GPU, I need to know setting and Nvidia Drivers VERSION....

Latley I will upgrade game to 1.09 for annoing fog problem on our card and with great hope that don't see the desktop crash again...

smile_o.gif Many Thanks to all people that has, ad will write here theyr expiriences

.. and excuse me for imperfect english

-window has the effect that there will be no Alt+Tabs required.

I had had problems with crashs when I had set the textures and models to very high because my card runs out of memory.

After reducing to normal/high I can play for hours without issues.

But if I get once back to desktop I will have a crash in the next hour. If I continue to switch between ArmA and desktop it will crash even faster.

For me it looks like an nvidia issue because it happens to no ati-users.

E6600 running @ 3.33ghz

Asus P5N32-E Sli Plus (Hybrid chipset: Nforce 650i + 590i)

Geforce 8800 GTX 768mb (G80 core)

4 GB DDR2-800

52" LCD, 1920x1080 16:9 (Yes indeed, it's quite annoying to have the interface, mainly map etc, only fill half the screen biggrin_o.gif)

XP32/Vista64 (with sp1-hotfixes etc), all fine.

I plan to upgrade in the upcoming weeks to Q9450 on a X38 mobo, DDR3-1600, and probably 2x 8800GT (G90 core), but hopefully a newer 9xxx series card. When I do I will also report back my results.

I play half of the time in non-windowed mode, I alt-tab less by then, but still quite frequent because half the time im on our servers, im also debugging and adjusting values while playing smile_o.gif

Rubberkite;

I also use the " default " setting for textures, you might try that too as it supposedly applies to cards with 512 ram or more.

Good luck

now I try to remove it,

banghead.gifbanghead.gifbanghead.gif

I also try to apply the default setting for texture

I need to know because I got italian version of the game

shading and shadow

shading is in the left column and shadow in the right (in the graphic setup screen I mean)

when I push the left setting high (maybe shadow detail) the game crash in few minutes

dammn

I use Vsync On and prerender frame 1

I would play arma without crash is possible!!!

Now I try the 1.09b but I'm sad, I want to play online games...

just tried the new unrealeased 171.16 beta (available only for XP and Vista 32)

PROS: they seem to run Arma very well indeed, better fps and smooth smile_o.gif

Also the control panel has an inbuilt v-sync frames ahead rendered controler , which is nice, as i always play with v-sync on.

CONS: they seem to set the GPU fan at 100% at all times :\

i hope the future whql version fixes that.

what setting do you use frames ahead rendered and vsync ?

1 2 3 ? what

Today I try the 109 beta no crash no fog bug, but a lot of LOD ... I think that Arma2 is the only way to play with new hardware...

I hope that new game engine runs smooth and without CTD

New Engine? Right smile_o.gif OFP/Elite/ArmA/ArmA2 all run on Virtual Reality Engine mate. Every game built on his older brother, more bug fixes, features, etc. etc. are introduced.

Besides, ArmA runs great on new hardware for me (check few posts above) and many people in my Community the same smile_o.gif

here you go:

ForceWare_171.16_beta_WinVista_32bit

ForceWare_171.16_beta_WinXP_32bit

but before you install these, be aware:

- the fan will run at 100%, although you can modify this issue with Rivatuner.

- they wont uninstalll properly and you will need to clean the registry before using another driver.

so, IMO, i dont advise these (although very promising), as they are a less than beta.

Currently im using the brand new Omega drivers, and im quite happy with the performance and the image quality.

-window Solved a lot of my CTD problems, but its a performance loss by about 15%.
