ArmA brightness / light system

Recommended Posts

It disappears, but it looks ugly when you look at the sky, it just flashes, but there isn't a glare to cover the flashing.

I restored an backup of the original ArmA.cfg, and the NVG`s are working now, not perfect but usable.

Some strange thing stays.

Why are vehicle-lights that weak, that i must use NVG`s to see the road in front of me?

I think a few sliders in the graphic-options could help, so everyone can do finetuning without editing the user.cfg, and see the changes instantly.

If everyone of us is giving 1,- EURO, we have enough money to pay Kegetys to fix all the bugs.

MfG Lee

yay.gif

Now we have a plan, let`s do that. biggrin_o.gif

No, really.

I can`t be that hard to change the values for the nvg`s.

The question is where and how to do it.

yeah

HDR in this game is most annoying thing for me

since beggining i was saying about ability to disable HDR

but probably none of patches will come with solution for changing brightess

damn sh*** HDR

It could be in 1.10 patch. That would be wonderful. But BIS won't listen, they're concentrated on dumping down ArmA 2 features.

Didn't Suma say that HDR was an integral part of the game and disabling it would result in instability and the game not actually working properly? I love how people have selective memories when it comes to slagging things off.

this "integral part" made me not to play for some moths, this "integral part" makes me angry when i play from time to time making new addons

honestly - i ONLY make addons, because it was and it is my hobby

i don't play, cause HDR behave only makes me angry and nervous

so i make my models, weapons, units, because i like it, i may make some mission, test it, play it, but in OFP i spent so much time without any anger

in ARMA i play some time and HDR only makes my nerves when i look at pulsing screen

honestly - if i were not hobbist of modeling, i would uninstal ARMA after first week

the only think that keeps me here is my joy, fun from creating models, from creating my own missions, because i'd rather be creative than just usual player/user

but when in mission i turn, or leave building, and see strong darkening my frustration raises

everey closing to bright object makes HDR pulse

when machinegun fires and flash is bright (custom addons) than HDR pulsing too

HDR=16 helps a little, but not so much

games that made me a lot of fun are: RTCW, MOHAA, OFP, Stalker, You Are Empty, COD2

ARMA is good for its beautifull environment, but HDR is definitly one of worse thing here

none of games i had - had no problems with darkening

They wouldn't have to disable it then, just fix it properly.

You have to be kidding me. It might make too much sense for BIS to test this before going all out.

I don’t know what they mean when they say “it simulates real lightingâ€. The best looking combat weather is in rain storms, from what I've seen most people choose, so who needs the sun in your eyes all the time. In the real world, unless the ground is white concrete, the ground is usually darker when you look down, not bright white.

It was a good idea, with bad results; the entire lighting system should have been trashed before it even got started. They focused all their attention on a lighting system that was geared towards sunny days. I have always thought that the rainy, stormy weather is the most fun to play in, just my opinion I guess.

And you can’t turn HDR off? It never fails; there is always one mess-up to keep a game from being almost perfect.

You have people all over the forums complaining about this, and to think they didn’t see this coming? Like none of the beta testers noticed this? Give me a break.

Hard coded? How about recode this junk.

Hard coded? How about recode this junk.

The only ones that can recode this "junk", without breaking laws, are the guys and girls of BIS.

So it would be up to them to fix it.

I know that Mr_Tea, but I’m sure unless enough people contact them on it, it won’t get done.

By the way, when I used "the word Junk", I’m only speaking out of frustration. It upsets me because this is one of the first combat games that has almost everything I have ever wanted; Moving Trees/Vegetation, Great landscape textures, and the same great editor. By no means is this game junk, and I was actually logging back in today only to edit my statement.

The game is a master piece, but I am so very disappointed in this lighting deal. When I play, I find myself trying to look forwarded, or up, but never down at the ground.

If BIS could fix this issue, and implement mulit CPU core support, the heavens will open up.

When running hdrPrecision=16 or 32 (with nvidia 8800gtx etc), the problem is basicly gone, however:

[*] You miss some sunglare

[*] NVG's are still not really fixed, but just use s_hole's adjustable nightvision addon and for me it's the perfect combo biggrin_o.gif

Also, some ppl have additional / worse problems than others, seemed to have been drivers back then, iirc.

You find the hdrPrecision setting in my documents\arma\arma.cfg

Once i set the HDR precision to 16 AA get`s disabled, so it`s not an option to fiddle with that setting.

The last thing i want to do is play a game, any game, without AA. huh.gif

AFAIK the 8600GT can use AA+16bit HDR at the same time, the nVidia 7x00 and lower and the Ati Xx00 and lower (X1xx0 can do it) cant do both at the same time.)

Doesn't setAperture fix the lighting and basically disables dynamic HDR?

In which case, at least for certain mission, couldn't it be implemented by mission makers to override normal ArmA behavior?

Yes, it could be implemented in such a way, but it would break on long missions with changing lighting conditions.

I saw recently that an addon for NGV, probably using this feature, has been released.

Perhaps an addon with auto aperture adjustment depending only on date, hour and weather could be done, leaving out all the auto-HDR based on global scene lighting and viewpoint position / target.

Rather tough job, though.
