Island of Porto

Recommended Posts

Thanks!

The size of the island greatly fails my expectations, I wasn't expecting a big one but that is just tiny. I wonder how they fit an entire campaign there.

Haha! Not to brag, but that city is smaller that a block in Sakakah. tounge2.gif

But seriously, why THAT small? confused_o.gif

Trust me, it's big enough for some great fun wink_o.gif

And small enough for lag free multiplayer action.

Well, we did a MP campaign on Porto yesterday and it was helluva fun! Intense firefight in the main town, RPGs flying all over the place, AI groups flanking... it was hard and it took us more than 1 hour to finish the mission with a team of 11 soldiers.

Porto is not that small you know... main town is full of narrow streets and it takes a lot of time to clear them! Too bad framerates for this island are terrible, even worse than Northern Sahrani! Yup, its time to upgrade our rigs... framerates drop even more at nighttime, because streets are well lit.

If anyone is interested in trying out what Porto can offer, I recently put up a mission for review over at OFPEC

[HERE]

It has all you can ask for... Porto, Pimped up Hummers, good atmosphere and of course a little bit of action. Any feedback in that fourm would also be great.

QB is of course a required addon.

Frame rates for Porto are only bad with grass turned on outside the town area. Inside the town its pretty smooth.

In south Sahrani the grass is short, doesnt block the view and performance is sweet everywhere.

In North Sahrani the grass is tall, blocks visibility and makes the game perform real bad, in north Sahrani i swith terrain detail to very low all the time.. because of this grass.

Now what did they do? They made new grass that looks pretty for fake combat photography but makes the game perform bad, again..

Your long story short: "i have to make a hardware-update to my computer".

I definite can tell you if you would have a good system you would love the gras and escpecially the bushes.

Because on the highest settings the gras and foliage are modelled much more detailed (thiner down,

grass and foliage get more the form of gras and foliage) so that you have the real

chance to look through that stuff. You get not a free look but you get sometimes (very) little holes to look through

and you have the chance to explore situations while you are in coverage. Thats makes sneak-missions very realistic. So  every bush and every culm of gras will be your friend :)

Love the attitude there, mr. ubber l33t... but i think my specs are adequate and your talking out of your behind there, sorry.

The grass makes a significant hit on my fps in areas. While 30/40 fps are usually good enough the performance hit caused by the grass in NS and Porto makes the game feel jerky even when im scoring 35 fps. with a "dense" background (forest) overdraw can make me run some low 25 fps wich is not acceptable.

As for gameplay:

Get some!

WTF!?

In the above situation the OPFOR soldier can obviouly score a clean shot in my skull while im staring at the weed.

So no, i dont love the NS or Porto's grass and i think the grass should be no higher than the one we can find in south Sahrani.. for gameplay and performance reasons smile_o.gif .

Please give me some coordinates of sahrani, where i can find that high gras. I have searching a little bit

on north-sahrani but cant find this gras.

For now i can tell you there are 3 gras-scenarios, that you can handle quit good:

(1) 1 x enemy, careless: the gras can be ever so long and thick, the enemy will not notice you also if he passes

you very near => the advantage is yours.

(2) More enemies, careless:  the gras can be ever so long, the enemy will not notice you also if they pass you very near

=> its up to you if you engage an supirior number of enemies. Be aware that you must clip out all ememies BEFORE they start shooting on you.

(3) 1 x enemy, combat-mode, but without knowing your exact position: he opens the fire in plain-gras-area at 50(?) meters ... BUT you will HEAR the steps of the enemy before he opens the fire => if you locate the direction of the runing enemy first then you have the chance to engage first also if you are lying in the gras and in ironsight-mode because you can notice enemies through the gras at 90 or rmore meters (in a plain-area).

And c'mon,  please be fair and dont compare normal-sight-screens with iron-sight-screens. You know certainly that in iron-sight-mode you are lying deeper in the gras and so you get more gras in the optic. So it would be good if you post the long/thick-gras-screen in normal-sight-mode.

I'm not a grass expert, but either you are wrong or the picture is from Porto, which this topic is about.

That is the whole point, it's the same grass. Not only does the grass impair performance, it blocks your view and the grass even intensifies when you zoom at it, blocking view to anything you could have seen with a normal zoom level.
