DMSmokeEffects Beta3

Love your Smoke Effects!!! inlove.gifbiggrin_o.gif

Thanks smile_o.gif

The next release will be a genuine drop in & play addon, no triggers necessary.

As soon as I work out why aircraft are not receiving the eventhandler while all other vehicles do I'll release it.

I think Matt's effect are a bit on the hollywood side now, but that's just my taste, anyway, can't wait for your next relase!  thumbs-up.gif

suggestion:

Are you able to add new effects to the existig ones?

Would be cool if some buildings began to burn during the destruction (e.g. after hit by HE rounds or being bombed), and apart from dust, produced smoke...the ruins could burn faintly long after the destruction, and block the view with smoke.

Yep, it can be done. My effects are split broadly into two types, the config type and the extra type.

The config type is me changing the default effects to my own taste, and sometimes adding extra effects on top (as in the grenades) and the extra type effect is me adding brand new smoke effects OVER default ones. So you get two types of effect in that case, the default one and my own one.

I left the default ones in as they often look pretty good mixed in, they don't last too long in any case and they're pretty light on resources.

The only problem with burning areas (as opposed to burning objects) is that it takes a lot of particles to make it look convincing. I can do it but to keep each effect within my arbitrary 500 particle limit I'd need to have them short lived. Making them huge is not really a good option especially for ground-based effects because of the particle scaling bug in ArmA.

I really like your smoke dispersion DM  biggrin_o.gif

I watched your 203 example on YouTube and the building collapse smoke and 203 impact were really good. I tried version3.2 and seeing the smoke with the shadows etc. in-game is quite spectacular!

Did you work with MaddMatt on ArmA Effects? "DMFireEffects.p3d"  smile_o.gif

I have one question about DMSmokeEffects: On impact of the 203 the explosion of smoke appears extremely quickly; out of curiousity is it possible to slow down the initial speed of the explosion by about 0.0625 seconds? biggrin_o.gif

I remember the first time I ever noticed that, I was actually online and playing with friends on a Ventrilo channel. After they heard me describing it they all turned their shadow settings up so they could see it biggrin_o.gif

No, but I did give permission to use my images smile_o.gif and we regularly PM each other about this that & the other.

I can delay the appearance of the smoke by any amount, but the way it's done is not strictly speaking an explosion effect, it's several groups of clouds being generated almost simultaneously with no initial velocity.

The impression due to inbred assumptions is that it's poofed out from a central source (sort of like an optical illusion), but that's not really possible with the particle engine without all the particles just flying away with inertia. What I could do, and might do later, is to add another cloud that does poof out from the source, to lend even more illusion to it smile_o.gif

But my own perceptions of the online footage from Liveleak & Youtube etc is that for the most part the dust just "appears" suddenly, all I needed to do was try & simulate the various random dust cloud shapes.

Any way this can be made to be server side only? I'm thinking sonething like VF's AI addon that lets server admins just have this in their server's addons folder without having to worry that everyone connect will need the smoke adon too. I'd like to have Viewblock smoke grenades on my server but i want it to be open to the public and have your sweet efects work for everyone.

Also! Will this create conflicts with Madmatt's Arma Effects addon? They look like they're using the same smoke effects! armedassault.info even uses the same screenshots to show the two mods off look:

Are the mods related?

Can you make those exploding effects (grenades) faster - directly at impact? Now its seem like impact-waiting-smoke.

Im curious about the smoke-height for burning oil pumps. Now burning vehicles have black smoke max height at 360m. Is it possible to bring more different height in it? Would be nice to see some more grey(fade from black) smoke !!

Guys, this thread is dead. Please use the Beta 4 thread. (Or, as I cleverly mis-typed it, the beat 4 thread biggrin_o.gif)
