NeMeSiS 11 Posted July 11, 2007 If its a torch why cant we use it? Because its nonexistent? (AFAIK)
somebloke 0 Posted July 11, 2007 Why use a torch when you have NVG?
wex-q 0 Posted July 11, 2007 Yes, excactly. The NVG can't be spotted by enemy And, are you meaning torch (british english) or torch (am. english)? Because, there is a huge searchlight, can't find a picture though.
Bob.Moore 0 Posted July 11, 2007 but why put it there lol
-Puma- 2 Posted July 11, 2007 but why put it there lol exactly, been wondering this since day1
Mr Sarkey 0 Posted July 11, 2007 Put it where? (it being the torch i presume)
wex-q 0 Posted July 11, 2007 The searchlight can be used ingame, AI follows for example helicopters (I think they do it by themselves, or by script). Search around EDIT: And also, a bit to the realism factor, the "standard soldier" doesn't allways wear NVGs, so a few searchlights in the base to light up any enemy copters is very useful, especially for the AA-guys
NeMeSiS 11 Posted July 11, 2007 I always found the searchlights quite atmospheric in night assaults, when attacking you are blinded by them when you look into them, and when defending its quite nice to see something in the almost total blackness of the ArmA nights. dmarkwick 261 Posted July 11, 2007 I think a torch (flashlight) would be a great idea. Not all units have access to NVGs, nor should they. I think units using torches while searching/patrolling would be a great idea. Must be possible - searchlights are just very big torches.

Torches with red or green light were only for reading maps, writing notices and messages and similary stuff. For this game the torch feature can be dropped as unimportant

Seeing as you're in charge.
The-Architect 0 Posted July 12, 2007 No need to flame bait. There is the possibility of adding a light to the end of a gun, it was done to some degree in Flashpoint. The idea is for your CQB guys. Would need to be an addon I reckon and you'd have to be fairly good to sort it out.
Beagle 684 Posted July 12, 2007 Oh, OK then. Seeing as you're in charge. No. I refer to general military field rules. The inconsiderate use of flashlights indicates your position to opposing recon teams, thats why it has to be avoided in combat situations.
metsapeikko 0 Posted July 12, 2007 Hmm, I think flashlight wouldnt be bad idea, I mean, I most of the civilians in sahrani doesnt have access to fancy military equipment like nightvision googles.... And I think flashlight would add more immersion for some scary forrest zombie post apocalyptic mission...
maddogx 13 Posted July 12, 2007 +1 for flashlights. Not everyone has access to NVGs. I especially support metsapeikkos point. Would be great for atmospheric effect.
dmarkwick 261 Posted July 12, 2007 Well, my philosophy is if anyone wants to make it, make it. We had flying lawnmowers in OFP for God's sake I would advocate the use of torches the same way I advocate the use of headlights, i.e. not all situations are to be performed in absolute stealth conditions. Units wandering around in a camp, around a parked up convoy, they don't need to be creeping about in NVGs. I certainly had a torch when I was a field engineer. robert(uk) 0 Posted July 12, 2007 Yeah, flashlights would be cool. As has been said, not every soldier has access to NVGs...
Beagle 684 Posted July 12, 2007 Yeah, flashlights would be cool. Â As has been said, not every soldier has access to NVGs... Â Yes... and not every soldier has acces to a flashlight *grinn* Own aquired ones do not count. We had two per Squad...the most difficult thing was to get enought spare batteries from the Supplie Sergeant.
wex-q 0 Posted July 12, 2007 There were a few flashlight addons for OFP IIRC, but they were a bit dodgy. I think VBS simulates use of flashlights a bit better. Costs a bit more thouhg, hehe
Bob.Moore 0 Posted July 12, 2007 Then maybe if there was options to storm into buildings..you could use the flash light to your advantage....
