belgerot 33 Posted June 30, 2007 Wonderful job so far, the work you've done is impressive. I showed a few of your screenshots to a couple of friends, and I didn't tell them it was for Arma at first. They couldn't believe just how realistic it looked.

Marines 0 Posted June 30, 2007 lo folks, cheers for all the good stuff ^^ @Marines: HDS has spent alot of time over the Winter and Spring time testing how far we can push the envelope with reguards to objects and foliage. Here (scroll down) is some examples of what we've been able to come up with that does not effect gameplay. As with previous releases from HDS we provide high, medium and low versions of our islands for their corresponding users PC spec. Also were aiming for it to be real enough that taking 100 troops and 16 tanks through it wont be needed . Cheers dudes, Carver HDS TEAM Roger that, matey! I'm by far looking foward to this release than most others. This should make for some very interesting, and difficult infantry missions. And it should also be one hell of an island to just roam around on, soaking up the sights and what not. Any idea what the initial release date will be? StryDa 0 Posted June 30, 2007 Any idea what the initial release date will be? From the amount of objects, trees, bushes etc. That will have to be put down to make it true High Definition and make the environment as real as possible to real life it will take quite along time. Stugwi 0 Posted July 1, 2007 Looking forward to this - hedgerows and wheeliebins ...love it Maybe u could do with some help? Wheeliebins
Strother 0 Posted July 1, 2007 Quote[/b] ]What do you mean by that? I'm curious now. terrorism sadly. Some people FREAK out when they find out somebody is making a map of their area for a game about killing people.
StryDa 0 Posted July 1, 2007 terrorism sadly. Some people FREAK out when they find out somebody is making a map of their area for a game about killing people. It's mainly gonna be fields and forests so i can't see why people would get worried to be honest.
SHWiiNG 0 Posted July 1, 2007 Hmm i think this may be a question that many are asking. Performance im guessing about 60-70% of the community does not use Very High - High settings due to dreadfull performance myself included. So.. how does this increased density and complexity of vegetation fare with those of us who have current frame rate problems. by the way heres my Rig: AMD Athlon 64 processor 3700+ Dual Core 2.4 - 2.6 Ghz (Ai Booster) 2Gb Corsair Ram, (4x 512) 80Gb SATA Hard drive w/ 320Gb External Radeon X800GTO2 (Overclocked) 256Mb (Up-to-Date Drivers) And yes i get terrible frame rates so every setting is either Medium or low or off
DBO_ 0 Posted July 1, 2007 i dont think the addon makers can ever make a suitable addon for everyone because they have same problem as bis , everyone has different hardware. i can run arma for example on everything high except for low post processing and aa and af disabled. no problem. i have e6600 2048 of dual channel ddr2 nvidia 8800gtx -nosplash -maxmem = 2048 some prefer maxmem at 256 or 512 but for me its 2048. there needs to be an ability to take a benchmark and apply it to cluttergrid in island configs. if it was possible it would be like the old server benchmark = viewdistance but would be benchmark = cluttergrid (averaged and equalled across a server or applied in single player without need to equalise , cause you are on your own .its not poss at the moment but maybe one day. but for the numbers these guys are aiming for i think they have a reasonable chance of making a playable yet perty landscape. Therefore this is a most innacurate comparison between mine any your System, so of course you will have better performance
DBO_ 0 Posted July 1, 2007 well at least you have your humour left My point was not aimed at you , my point was that in the troubleshooting thread you will see many with same pc as myself who have many problems. But still you kind of emphasised my point , you think of one pc and the addon makers must think of manyand so must bis but there will always be someone who would like 40 - 50 fps and a 256mb card i guess
StryDa 0 Posted July 1, 2007 We will be releasing 3-4 different versions. The highest being the most detailed that will be more heavy on your graphics card and then a lowest that will run on the older, slower cards but we should still be able to get a huge amount of objects into the low version. Oh thats good news, i would ask how and do you mind posting a few screens of Each pack, so the community doesnt get lulled into a false sense of security, by which i mean, its best to show them what lower end users will see when they get this pack, as well as higher end users. Well at the moment we haven't started yet as Vistor 3 isn't out yet. But as Elliot starts to build it up we can test it on different spec machines and see what each can handle. So once Elliot has started the first few fields we can test them and show what specs can handle and how detailed it looks even on different specs.
Elliot Carver 0 Posted July 1, 2007 lo folks, Cheers for the awesome responce ^^ The whole team is buzzing knowing there is a large interest from the community. We cant wait to get started once the tools get to us! As StryDa said, we release in 3 differnt versions. High, Medium and Low for the users corresponding PC specs. We may include a V.low version if its needed. We do this by creating the highest version first and then skimming off the background objects that dont serve a purpose on the island thus increasing the fps without losing to much eye candy! We have discussed, in team meetings, about legal and ownership problems we may face in modeling our area. As long as we are using information 'in the public domain' such as satellite imagery then we are ok. BIForums and ArmA.info will be kept fully up to date with news and pictures as we progress and of course our WEBSITE too! What i would ask the community tho is to be patient. What were attempting here is huge and will take some time. HDS hopes to make this not just single modular success but a whole community achievement, involving as many communty creations as possible. Id like to thank all those who took the time to email me and im going to reply to you right now ^^ Feel free to drop me an email: luke_fitzpatrick@hotmail.co.uk or leave a comment on our website. Cheers folks, Carver
