Daddl 10 Posted May 5, 2008 Just started toying around with my new Canon 70-300 IS USM - already love it! The only downside is the missing possibility to manually adjust the focus in autofocus mode - something I have become quite acustomed to by now. All shots taken using a Canon EOS 350D and the Canon EF 70-300 IS USM.
Spokesperson 0 Posted May 5, 2008 Nice pictures, you really see the cam quality.

BlackScorpion 0 Posted May 11, 2008 Holy... that's nice. The small bumbs at the bottom are a tad annoying but that aside... sweet. Spokesperson... it's not that much the camera as it is the optics. A good platform does help of course. Daddl, got the specs on that lens? I'd assume it to be in the 3.5-4.5 to 5.6 range when it comes to maximum aperture. I guess the quality is good up close (maximum image size)? Oh and how the hell can you autofocus with that thing, got 400D and it's a pain in the ass... well it's sufficient and I do have glasses (very slightly impaired vision), but I still trust the AF more. Nice shots tho', could see what I can come up with my 50-150/2.8 Sigma. Have taken some nice images lately - mainly birds. Motivation has been a bit low due to PC specs and low HD space, and the effort of editing and uploading large amounts of images, and because of the fact that I'd like to try portrait shots, preferably "birds" , but haven't had the chance or balls to ask. Daddl 10 Posted May 15, 2008 Daddl, got the specs on that lens? I'd assume it to be in the 3.5-4.5 to 5.6 range when it comes to maximum aperture. I guess the quality is good up close (maximum image size)? Oh and how the hell can you autofocus with that thing, got 400D and it's a pain in the ass... well it's sufficient and I do have glasses (very slightly impaired vision), but I still trust the AF more. Nice shots tho', could see what I can come up with my 50-150/2.8 Sigma. I posted the lens name right below the image - its a Canon EF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 IS USM. The image stabilizer makes up (at least when taking stills) for much of the bad aperture (about two steps), and the lens produces very sharp pictures indeed (almost matching my beloved Canon EF 50mm 1:1.4 USM). Considering the crop factor of 1.6 (resulting in a max. zoom of 480mm) and the great image quality its one hell of a bargain. I'm wearing glasses myself, but my eyes aren't too bad, so I can take off the glasses and adjust the camera instead. I'm missing the visual aids old analog cameras had to help with manual focusing, but with the visor correctly tuned to my eye sight, it's not too hard turning off the auto focus and still getting sharp results. Of course I'd rather have it like on my 50mm lens where I can have the auto focus activated and simply adjust the focus if the automatic doesn't get it right (for example when I want to take a picture through branches or something similar). Here's two more shots:
Alex72 1 Posted May 15, 2008 Very impressive photos all around! Some explanation of the area: I took a photo in 2006 trying to be somewhat artisitc heh. I was out with my friend boating around the beautiful Stockholm Skargard (cant use the swedish chars here - spells different) as usual every year, this is a  huge area on the coast with thousands of islands scattered close to eachother and a lot of them heavily marked by wind and water over time. We saw this boat that had gone on shallow water and got stuck. We climbed around and i just stood on that side and thaught it looked nice - might have been drunk though Also, out here the military have hidden bases guarding the inlets to our mainland. Very cool to see the combat boat 90 patrol there. Cool video of it. Anyhow, my photo: Regards Alex

HotShot 0 Posted May 21, 2008 Have you put a glow or such around the guitar and poster in the second picture Tovarish? Looks kind of dream-like. Nice colours though, as with Alex. I took my camera to London today, but I had (stupidly) forgot to recharge the battery so I only got 1 picture... But here it is: Albert Memorial in Hyde Park. Will have to go back again at some point with my (fully charged) camera and go happy snappy as there's so many awesome sights about. An odd Memorial, had Asian sculptures at the corners but a very Christian feel at the centre.
Tovarish 0 Posted May 22, 2008 Have you put a glow or such around the guitar and poster in the second picture Tovarish? Looks kind of dream-like. Nice colours though, as with Alex. The second picture is a 5 exposure HDR tonemapped with Qtpfsgui. The glow is an unintended side effect common with HDR. I'll post one of the regular exposures when I get home tonight for comparison
DarkLight 0 Posted June 1, 2008 Killagee, on the previous page, there's a picture of a lizard (above the pic with those statues that look like heads). Is this a wild animal or did you see it in some sort of zoo? I'm pretty sure it's a Pogona vitticeps, however, as far as i know, these animals are only found in australia So uhm... did you see it in the wild?
